Just read the book and was fascinated by Jason's almost obsessive curiosity. His mind kept telling him to get out but his curiosity was overpowering his logic - it almost sounds as if given the right circumstances he may have slipped into the madness himself, and perhaps did after all. Maybe rather than choosing to take the same psychotic path, he chose to spare the world from another serial killer... Food for thought!

I have written to serial killers too, I wrote to richard ramirez, the night stalker, ted kaczynski, the unabomber, and rodney alcala, the dating game killer. I never met any of them though. Ted is in Colorado ; ramirez and alcala are in the bay area in CA on death row.

@amberjade11 His obsession with serial murderers led to his own demise. I personally believe that he gave into his obsession with murder & serial murderers by acting out his fantasy--murder. He went to a strange place, killed a stranger. In his guilt, his conscience got the best of him he realized he wasn't a murderer, he wasn't one of them. It was then that reality set in, he committed the ultimate sin, and in doing this his goodness, his guilt consumed him and he then killed himself.

@pitolove71 Are you implying that he did that metaphorically or physically? I agree with you in the sense that his obsession with serial killers did lead to his own demise. He even talked about that in the book how he would start getting too deeply involved for his own good (I'm paraphrasing). But as far as what happened with Gacy, I think he is lying to make the book sell better.

@amberjade11 I have visited people at a maximun security prison and you aren't allowed to be left alone with an inmate, there are no vending machines, there are cameras everywhere, there are correctional officers in the visiting room and outside of it watching through the glass. I have a very difficult time believing that anyone would leave a young man alone with a high profiled serial killer who murdered young boys. Sorry, can't prove it by me. Did make the book a better read though..
