  • @GraceAdele The more you practice, the more happy it will become!

  • Oh whew! Glad to know the sound comes and goes. I really like the sound of your voice, you can't say too much to a beginner like me. Great video!

  • Great instruction, but the sound keeps cutting out during the video!

  • @GraceAdele There is nothing wrong with the audio. The video has slow motion with intermittent sound

  • Where is the origianl video without slow motion so we can hear what you are saying?

  • @kj015 I sent you a newer version of the granny square with more details and better quality.

  • when you start your chain, do you count what's already on your hook?

  • audio is messed up

  • @TIsbell68 There is nothing wrong with the audio. The video has slow motion with intermittent sound

  • The video was great but I ended up with a circle instead of a square. Do you mind explaining to me what I did wrong?

  • @pinklife707 Since it turned out round, most likely you missed the increase stitches.

  • I love you. I just can't learn anything from the other videos I've watched. You are awesome!

  • @cubesofspinach I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • I just love watching this, I can watch this all day :)

  • @YungWeezyBaby14 I appreciate the comment, thank you!

  • I'm trying to figure out how many to make for a queen sized quilt- about how many inches would you say it ends up being per side? Thanks for your tutorials- I started crocheting about a year ago, and learned by watching your videos and now I love it! Your a fantastic teacher.

  • I love Theresa's instructions and tutorials, she's always the best teacher, she takes her time teaching and posts written instruction in her blog for us to print. I tried learning from other teachers before but they don't always start at the beginning or they leave out certain vital parts of the lesson! tjw teaches crocheting from the beginning to the end .AND posts written instruction for printing. Thank you Theresa!I love you...May a blessing come your way for being so good.

  • @FamilarSpirits Thank you so much!

  • Your sound keeps stoping and starting and i cant hear a word your saying and im soooo confused!!!! =(

  • @TheVanillaface13 It is in slow motion so there is intermittent sound. There is an annotation link posted in the video for 5 rounds of another granny square version.

  • @TheVanillaface13 FYI..the sound works good on my computer, it's probably your audio or sound card. try rolling back your drivers or checking to see if you have the latest updates on your system woman! try solving your problem before losing your mind.,,,lol

  • Sorry but can you start at the very begining, I know this sounds like I am a idiot but I have brain issues. rhank you

  • WOW!!!!!!! Took me a good while. had to put the stitch down for about 6 months...but I got it! Thanks

  • i have an old pattern that has 3tr tr,2ch,3tr tr....l am not sure on how to do this can u help..thanks

  • @kimburra It is going to be an English UK term maybe triple-treble.

  • @kimburra .thank u so much ! yes triple treble did it

  • I just have a question after you crochet the chain what stitch should I go in the chain

  • @cathyann3232 You crochet right through the middle of the chain, working the stitches around the chain.

  • you are so very kind to do this - I feel like a lid has beenlifted off the mystique of crochet! Also - VERY beneficial to do it slower I applaud you for that the other stuff can be too fast and easy to get lost. Slower the better!

  • @scottiewench Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • YYYYAAAAYYYY!! Thank you SOOOOO MUCH for doing this slow video! I have been struggling to learn how to do a Granny Square, and alot of vids on here the person goes kinda fast & doesn't really show where they are going in the circle (let alone what stitch they are picking up). I've gotta keep practicing, but with your help I'll get there :) Thanks! :)

  • Thanks.....tried the sunburst one first and needed to go back to basics. Love your videos and I am grateful you take the time to teach so many strangers.

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • thanks for that i have now compleated one successfully

  • You are welcome.

  • im stuck vid sound kept going in an out i dnt feel like this was explained well enough this vid DIDNT HELP AT ALL

  • The video shows a lot of slow motion. There is no sound during those parts. I have several other updated granny square videos since this one has been made.

  • thank you

  • how do you make you join very neat.when I do it it is not neat at all. Please can you post a video up that shows you how to make your join very neat .Happy Crocheting

    !

  • It does take some practice to fine tune all of the details. Keep practicing and you will get it.

  • it looks like it could be helpful but 90% of it has NO sound. I've tried playing it several times & on different computers but it didn't help.

  • The parts with no sound are in slow motion and don't have sound.

  • Thank you so much you tube old school... into my home from yours. Thank You

    Kim

  • You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • Oh yay!!!! I can make a granny square, thanks so so so so so so much!!!!! U r so easy to follow and how u do slow motion is brilliant!!!! Im making a blanket for my brother who is going to the army within six months. I will really miss him and wish him love and healthe and of course no injuries. Thanks teresa!!! Ill make a vid. response asap (aka) when i finish-lol

  • woops i meant health sorry

  • Guess what.. I bet you can't guess it. I was able to do it and it looks like the picture. YES YES YES!!!!! I know how to do the granny square.

  • I am glad that you got it now. I knew you would as long as you did not "throw your hook out the window". Happy crocheting :)

  • mine doesn't look like yours. i want to learn granny square so baddly, but its a failure ever time. Sigh

I give up * throws hook out the window*

  • I do have some other granny square videos that you may want to look at. Sometimes it is best to put the hook and yarn down for a while so you do not get frustrated. When you pick it back up you will get it.

  • Okay. Its a new day. I looked it over again and tried again. It looks kinda like a granny square compared to what I made before. I shall start over and try it again later.

  • this is just what i was looking for, thank you so much <3

  • You are welcome. :)

  • teresa i LOVE your videos and im doing a blanket much like mzriomae posted a video on ...my only question is what type of edging do you recommend when i finish up...do i use like a single crochet edge or just leave it as is...what would you recommend to finish it off?

  • A single crochet will work well or you can do a couple rounds of single crochet, then the reverse single crochet.

  • It is so kind of you to redo the video in slow motion for the beginners. I appreciate all you do to help us. God bless!

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • Fantastic!! I actually made something that looks vaguely square like as opposed to my usual map of northern ireland!! Thank you.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • I'm so happy I found crochet videos, and yours look super cool to do :D These Slow-mo are really helpful too.

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you. :)

  • this is a ten year old emailing u um your nails were blocking what you were crochet and i started crocheting when i was 8 so im not that new to crochet like my friend just stated because of me and i am the one teaching and advising her so can u give me me some tips to pass on to her and also like i told u ive been crocheting for 2 years like i told you so am i at a begginer, expert, or master level and please reply me

  • You are welcome to visit my crochet blog that is filled with tips.

  • your finger nails are huge!! and i am a extreame begginer and these videos are very discourageing to me, because it looks so hard but you do it like its nothing. can you give me advice?

  • Keep practicing and you will get it.

  • your videos are awesome...thank you for posting your videos... now im making all sorts of stuff!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • help! I have been trying to learn to make the granny square from the round and I am not sure which chain is the third one to do my sl st to join the whole thing together. I am still not sure how I count the stitches after I have made them.

  • You make a chain, then join. After that you chain 3 and work 2 more double crochet. The chain 3 is the step up required to make the other stitches.

  • The granny square videos ..the blue sample the first you made looks very different from this one are. They are right? the first one looks much tighter. Thank you for your posts!

  • I have several variations of the granny square posted. This is the traditional granny square. The light blue one is a solid granny square.

  • I appreciate you trying to all of us. I just started crocheting and I have the basic stiches down but run into problems with turning chains I'll be a few rows down looks uneven or it could be after crocheting a few stitches it looks funky!!! Sometimes at end of row looks like Ive come up short so I'll create a stich : ( please help!!! Thks

  • You mentioned you are new to crochet so what you are experiencing happens to everyone. Practice will help your tension, which will make your stitches even. It is also very important to count your stitches so you do not miss a stitch. That will make your edges come up short.

  • The corners are my downfall. I am finally seeing what I missed before in getting the chain 3's to look right. I think I will have to watch the corners again. Do I remember you saying it is only 2 chains instead of three?

  • I do some granny squares with 2 chains and some with 3 chains. The instructions are posted on my crochet blog. The pattern link is to the right of the video under the "More info" link.

  • A darn google add popped up (and not the one that minimizes) and STAYED there the whole time.. making it difficult to make anything out...

  • BRAVO BRAVO thank you so much! I have just began to crochet last week and I needed alot of help. Your video wasso clear and easy to understand thank you :)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • thank you so much for this video! i was having trouble starting my granny square and i watched your video once and it all became clear.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • You are welcome and you have a Merry Christmas.

  • what yarn do you use? mine seems to fray apart as i'm using it.

  • 4-ply worsted weight

  • i'm sorry but that made no sense to me. i used to crochet but haven't done it for a long time. i'm understanding the first bits but when making the circle you don't explain how to do it very well you just do it.

  • Love, love, love your videos!!! Thank you. The only problem I'm having is that the sound keeps cutting in and out. I tried on two seperate computers thinking it was a problem on my end, but it happened on both. Just wanted to let you know.

  • Thank you. There is not a problem with the sound. The sound is split up because of the slow motion which is why there is periodic silence.

  • ok well i cant even get past the first connection of the ring thing..

    i suck at crocheting!

  • Maybe it would benefit you to practice with the chain and join first. Then when you get the hang of that, move on to the next section.

  • it didnt help that i havent crocheted in about a year...im a lil rusty.

  • The only thing I know to suggest is to keep practicing. When I was first learning, I didn't always get everything right away.

  • your sound kept going off we missed half the video

  • You didn't miss anything and the sound didn't go off. It is done in slow motion. Nothing else was being said inbetween each sound segment. I edited the sound to be at the beginning of each slow motion segment, then it shows the stitches in slow motion. I do have the written pattern posted on my crochet blog as well as symbol instructions.

  • I mean at the beginging when you wsay what stitches to do it shuts your sound and i can't hear what stitch im supposed to do

  • The clip says what to do when I get to the stitch.

  • i couldnt hear what u where saying cuz ur sond kept going off!

  • It is done in slow motion. Nothing else was being said inbetween each sound segment. I edited the sound to be at the beginning of each slow motion segment, then it shows the stitches in slow motion. I do have the written pattern posted on my crochet blog as well as symbol instructions.

  • oh i thought somrthing happend when u posed it.

  • You will find a lot more tutorials with moments of silence with slow motion.

  • At 1:37 you aren't going into your original loop created with the 4 chain stitches are you? I was doing that last night trying to figure out how to do it from the pattern I was looking at. No wonder it looked so strange!

  • Yes, it is the original chain 4 loop. You just chain 4, secure and then chain 3 which counts as your first double crochet.

  • it took me a humiliating eight tries before i realized that i was not putting the stiches through the very middle like i should have been. I was trying all sorts of weird ways to stick them into the stiches and it came out looking amoeboid. finally... i can move on to row two. lol

  • Some patterns may tell you to crochet directly in the chain loops. Patterns are just a guide and can be changed. I like crocheting over chains. It gives more freedom to the stitches to evenly lay over the chain and self adjust.

  • Thank you!!!!your tutorials are DEFINATELY helpful.mine still looks all lopsided and cripeld but ill get the hang of it with lots of practice!! thank you very very muchooo!!!

  • You are welcome. Yes, you will get the hang of it. :)

  • I have been teaching myself how to crochet- mastered the elements- got stumped in reading the steps for granny square- your video helped to clear the confusion "where" to put the needle in the corners and such.. thank god for the internet- just think how useful it would have been for the ladies back in the Colonial or Victorian days! Come to think of it- they had their elders, no need for the internet! Today, no elders to teach/carry on the torch! We have people like you! Thanks!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • your tutorials are DEFINATELY helpful!! Thank you!

  • You are welcome.

  • Yay! Thanks! Mine came out sort of like a giant blob, but I'll get better!

  • Also does it matter what size needle I use or is it better to use a bigger one?

  • I have no clue what I am doing wrong. Everytime I do this it looks like a circle and it starts to curl up. Of course I am left handed and I do this in my other hand. I wonder if I am doing it too tight! Ugh I am so frustrated. It looks so easy!

  • It does not matter what size needle you use. You can crochet with your left hand. All you do is apply the instructions in the opposite directions for a lefty. Righty's crochet to the left, leftys crochet to the right.

  • It just takes time to learn how to crochet and control the tension. Practice is key when you are first learning.

  • Ya, I'm left handed, too! It's so annoying how everyone stichtes differently! I can never get anything right!

  • oh I know your pain!! I bought an instruction book, yarn and hook and my husband had to show me how to make a slip knot!!! bless his heart!! I am best at super simple HUGE blankets double crochet....I have completed at very very simple pattern..this after several years!! Hopefully I can finally do a granny square!!!

  • Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune)is a righty, her friend ages ago taught her how to crochet-a lefty (vanna did not know there was a difference) now, she swears she cannot do it with her right hand. Now she is promoting her own line of yarn co-partnering with Lion Brand; "Vanna's Choice yarn".To all leftys...there is hope- that alone should inspire you. Keep it up!

  • gr8 tutorial im figuring out the granny squares i follow your method but i end up with a wonky square am i going wrong somewhere

  • Thank you. I will need more details on why you think your square is wonky. We can go from there to fix the wonk. :)

  • The very center of my granny squares are puffy. What am I doing wrong?

  • If you are a beginner, it is possible that you start out with a looser tension and then start to tighten up as you progress with each round.

  • im havng trouble on how to hold the yarn with your hand. my granny taught me to crochet and knit but now formally

  • I do have a video tutorial on how I hold my yarn and how I thread it through my fingers.

  • is it just my computer or does ur voice keep getting cut off? like you would say "right here on the corners im going to...." and then like 7 seconds later i hear ur voice again?

  • Sounds like you have a slow Internet connection. It won't fully play until the streaming video is complete so you will hear choppy sound and video. I would suggest that you pause the video. You will see a light gray bar to the right of your play button. As the streamng video loads, it turns to a darker gray. As it plays it turns reds. Once you see the darker gray completely across your bar, then it should play with no interruption.

  • it was probably my internet. see when i made this comment i was on vacation and using a hotel internet lol. and i am getting kinda frustrated because i do exactly what u say and mine turns out wrong. maybe because of the audio i was doing wrong thing at wrong time ill try again and see what happens

  • wow i'm not getting a good understanding of it when you go slower, perhaps you might have a slow motion circle one too. :) Keep up the good work for us very slow learners.

  • I do have a slow motion circle tutorial.

  • too gud.... very very helpful

  • Thank you. :)

  • This is so wonderful; I've never understood this before. Your teaching technique is great, your voice is clear, your hand movement is slow and precise and easy to follow. Your personal tips are an added bonus. Thank you for sharing your wonderful gift with others.

  • Thank you for watching.

  • This was sooooo helpful. Thank you. I am crocheting!!!
