  • Ufff me ha dejado sin palabras...

  • Has Eddie Van Halen ever gotten old looking.

  • "Can you play the guitar for us Grandpa?" He plays this as their jaws drop. They vow to never listen to Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus or any other oonch oonch dance crap again. "Holy #@$^, can grandpa shred that axe!!!!!"

  • Truly wonderful. Ripe with all the Spanish flair and spice one could ever hope to have. Just amazing. And such interesting technique as well. Not between the legs with a stool or footstand but rather held up by hand with the lower bout on the right leg. That's quite a difficult stance to use after being used to the footstool. Simple awesome! Anyone who criticize this man had better play like God with a guitar made of mana!

  • Oh, yeah. And if Montoya played badly, please show us how it should have been done. Make a video and upload it, and let's see how a *real* master would do it.

  • Music grows. If we all followed tradition exactly, our music would still be banging sticks together. No one owns music; you can't "steal" a style. If you like it, you use it, that's all.

So Montoya had a style and used ones he'd heard; and he tried other stuff. You either like it or you don't, but either way he was a highly-trained and creative artist.

  • Total Shred Monster.

  • wow.....

  • Carlos the master at his work, like none other.

  • can anyone tell me the tuning of his guitar- is it down 1 step? standard? thanks

  • @1dillontaylor

He has tuned it 5 half-steps down to C. As he got older, he preferred a lower tension.

  • @ElLimonar1 5 steps down would be B (or H in german), 4 steps down is C. Halftones: B - C - Cis - D - Es - E

  • The Dos Equis man gives Montoya free beer.

  • Wow his guitar is amazing (Maybe very old also) still using wooden pegs to tune the cords. That is the way all guitars were fabricated in the past, until the metal were designed.

  • @cresta141 It's still being used every now and again by builders, some purists believe there's a difference in sound.

  • this man is so epic, kratos should've fought him in god of war

  • my ex studued unfder him.. this man wa very precise in teaching which he was not happyt o do all eth time. we used to have dance classes early in the morning listening to his music to start the day.

  • @byurlve you must be about 100!

  • Look ma one hands haha

  • @hectorcavazosjr Uno manos, uno manos!!!!

  • I give my right arm for such a left arm..Uhm...Olé..♪♫

  • anyone else's jaw was dropped during the whole time?

  • My name is Carlos Montoya. You killed my father...

    Prepare to die.

  • @tookurjaerbs was that guys name carlos? wasn't it santiago or something?

  • How can there be any dislikes? Fantastic man. I saw him in concert in the early '80's.

  • @lennieblue

I agree, unfortunately youtube is the place where people can bad mouth no matter what. But for anyone who truly understands guitar, there will be no bad mouthing about this man. I'm so jealous you got to see him live!

  • damn. thats discouraging. he's making it fucking hard for me to become the greatest guitarist ever.

  • A LA EDAD QUE TIENE ESTE GRANDE MAESTRO... Y DIGO GRANDE MAESTRO PORQUE ES LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE LO MIRO Y ESCUCHO... PERO LA AGILIDAD DE SUS DEDOS EN LA EJECUCION DEL A GUITARRA Y MAS QUE TODO LA LUCIDES DE LA MISMA EJECUCION!!!!!! ( A VECES POCAS PALABRAS PARA BUENOS ENTENDEDORES) SOLAMENTE NOS QUEDA ESCUCHAR SU EJECUCION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Those chords sound like they are from space sorta o_O

  • This guy is such a boss at guitar! 0_0

  • THIS IS JUST A FUC**** OLD FART....HE IS AMAZING!!

  • Brilliant!

  • holy shit. i had no idea someone could shred on a none electric guitar O_O

  • @3:14 he looks up like yeah, i get bitches with these fingers

  • I used to be among the flamenco snobs that put Carlos down. I've changed my opinion 180 degrees in recent years.

  • Shred-fest! Bet he didn't get paid per note! La ostia!

  • from greece. i like carlos and spanish music.i`m fun..

  • alot of flamenco people will tell you that montoya is a low rent flamienco faker who was just a showboater and not authentic or important in any way and sabicus was the real ideal of great flamingco

    one problem

sabicus was a fan, stole his licks and openly admited it

  • wow, carlos montoya stole alex lifesons chord before alex though of it. now thats a talented thief!

  • so inspiring

  • amazing!!!

  • AHHHHH my... MY.... MY FACE!!!! HE MELTED IT WITH HIS GODLY FLAMENCO...

  • My name is Carlos Mantoya.

    You killed my father.

    Prepare to die.

  • Okay...just to put out there...Yes Paganini indeed is a "virtuoso" (its a very impressive and intimidating term to everyone who knows nothing about formal music)...to suggest that Segovia is not is absurd. Also, you cant compare the two. Its apples and oranges. Your talking about two differant styles of music from differant regions of europe. True flamenco has proper and unique stumming techniques that people tend to try and cheat through because the proper way is demanding.

  • a true master RIP

  • the legado tarantas hahahaha

  • Niccolo Paganini, besides being a world class virtuoso violin player, also played the guitar and wrote music for it that's undoubtably far superior to anything you'll ever come up with. Also why don't you learn to keep your potty mouth shut and express your ideas without resorting to using potty talk. But then, that would probobly leave you without enough of a vocabulary to make yourself understandable to anyone, not that you are as it is.

  • truly one of the great guitar masters of all time right up there with Andres Segovia Lawson Rollins and as few others I won't mention his rendition of Farruca is impeccable

  • this guy is great. i reccommend paco de lucia also "entre dos aguas"

  • Beyond incredible!!!

  • There is one thing about Youtube for sure, I'm never surprised that no matter what the subject matter, the dregs of society will come out and leave the most shameful comments. Yeesh, I have no hope anymoe.

  • Comment removed

  • @HereinLasVegas - you couldn't have put it any better. it makes me so sad to read some of the comments. I hope one day people will start having a little respect and love for each other... that would solve so many problems .....

  • He doesn't practice anymore........

¿Me explicas?

No ¿Verdad?

  • One can only wish...

  • OK, flame me if you wish... but this is like the Spinal Tap of Flamenco guitar. It's like a parody of what it is supposed to be. Check out Sabicas or Nino Ricardo for the real deal in "old school" and see if you hear the difference.

  • his sound is just onbelivable i alwys get to be newly amazed

  • wow...and with no effects...a Grandmaster.

  • on 291 persons there are 12 idiots

  • Piece 'o cake. No problem. I should be able to learn this tune by 2099 or so. If I practice all day, every day. And never sleep. No that wouldn't be enough time...

  • My computer crashed while watching this...twice : O

  • If man is 5 and the devil is six... then carlos is seven

  • @assit2 Pixies reference?

  • @TheMercuryEmperor It is lol. Havn't met many pixie fans in this world.

  • @assit2

  • I have the same strings and frets on my guitar and it doesn't sound anything like Carlos'.

  • @beautifulsarah100

I think he drops the tune 1.

  • @amedtiffany Barritone guitar, with a capo on 2, strings go from A to A if I´m right, but not sure!

  • a perro!!!!!

  • Genius, I've forgotten....

  • The best I've ever heard. Great.

  • her's just a total badass.

  • I, too, had the privilege of hearing Carlos Montoya live in concert in the early 1980's, and, let me tell you something...no one, and I mean NO ONE! can play the guitar at Mr. Montoya's level. Not Jimmi Hendrix, nor Jimmy Page, or George Benson, nor Wes Montgomery, or Pat Metheny, nor Lee Ritenour, or Earl Klugh, nor Eric Clapton, etc. No one! Mr. Montoya is probably the greatest pure guitarist that ever walked this planet. His naysayers were/are jealous of him. Period!

  • He is using 5 wounded strings????

  • damn, at 6:22 i thought i was only at 0:10.... simply beautiful and awesome....

  • I saw Mr.Montoya in Calif. in the 80's. As I sat there with my jaw dropping... I could have sworn the guy had ten fingers on each hand.I've seen most the greats live...Clapton,Hindrix,Santanna,Zappa,ect... but NOBODY could play like this man.

  • Too good to believe!!!

  • I am sorry but to dislike it just reeks of jealousy...

This clip is equally beautiful as it is astounding!

  • 2:45

    Spider!

  • im trying to figure out how carlos montoya plays the intro to Granada. It's so fast but it doesnt seem to be rasgueado.??

  • 10 dislikes!! you know what is "dislikes" mean, right?

  • so much for arthritis lol

  • my mom took me to see carlos at the sacramento community center in the mid eighties, along with seeing the last show ever in america by led zep, and being at candlestick park in 89 when the giants won the national league championship, one of the "goosebump" moments in my life, although at the time i didnt know it would be led zeps last concert (in the us)... carlos will give you goosebumps!!

  • God damn that is some epic shit

  • Que bueno...............

  • This man sets such a high standard for anyone to try and reach, and at an age when most guitarist are losing a couple of licks.

  • Wow, he's even better than me!

  • Jump in the back seat, Eddie.........Carlos is drving.

  • @YNVNEone LMFAO!

  • @YNVNEone Ha ha ha ha great comment:)

  • He plays like the devil!

  • Wow. Master of flamenco. Any of you know Paco de Lucia and Manito de Plata?

  • Malmsteen isn't "shitty". He is "different". Not up, right, left, down, in or out. Different! As is Carlos Montoya. There is no "better" or "worse" or "greater" or "lesser"... I enjoy both musicians. This is not a "contest" with a winner and loser.

    Can you understand that?

  • @800988 well, i see your point, and i guess it's quite right.

but malmsteen repeats himself very often, and in my opinion that's not something a good musician should do

  • malmsteem of flamenco

  • @UnrealK9999 don't compare a fucking shitty guitarist like malmsteen to the great flamenco player Carlos Montoya

  • @xDimebladex it's just a joke dude, relax..

  • @UnrealK9999 MORE LIKE MALSTEEN WANTS TO BE THE MONTOYA OF ROCK GUITAR....SINCE HE CAME FIRST RIGHT?????OR AM I RIGHT?

  • Men, just hear the music. If someone doesn't enjoy him, why spend a lot of time justifying that making use depreciative observations? Put someone down won't solve inferiority complex.

  • this is music

  • wasnt he also a tennis player ?

  • Beautiful. Too beautiful.

  • Carlos really is a joke. Make no mistake about it; he is the laughing stock of the flamenco world, taken seriously by nobody (including his own late uncle)!

  • @matthewhenson1 a joke my ass, when you play this shit, nobodys laughing at all

  • @Asop43 Sorry mate, everybody who is anybody in the flamenco world is laughing. I wouldn't want to "play this shit".

  • @Asop43 Why is this "shit"? Just because you can't play it doesn't make it "shit".

  • @kusindan I don't think Asop43 meant it like that. Here in the States, to say "this shit" can also mean the same as "this stuff", hence what he was really saying "when you play this stuff, nobody is laughing at all". Another similar saying used here is to say "this is the shit!" which actually means the same as saying "this is awesome". Considering the way he was responding to the comment made by matthewhenson1, I don't think he meant it in a negative way.

  • @kusindan DID HE REALLY CALL CARLOS MONTOYA SHIT?.....WOW. HE MUST BE NICOLO PAGANINI BECAUSE THATS THE ONLY PERSON ALIVE OR DEAD THAT COULD TALK SOME SHIT LIKE THAT I WOULD THINK EHH? WHAT THE HELL?! MONTOYA IS THE MOST OG HARDCORE GUITARIST OF ALL TIME....LOVE HIM ON VINYL....EVERYONE STOP COMING ON HERE TO HATE...WE DONT WANT TO HERE YOUR CRAZY ASS HATER BULL;SHIT....WE CAME TO GETS DOWN ON SOME MOTHERFUCKING OG SHIT....CARLOS MONTOYA MOTHAFUCKAS!!!!!!!!! THIS IS THE OG GANGSTER SHIT !!!!!!!

  • @northofthesun Im not sure how anybody can pass up liking that comment haha

  • Grandpa shred!

  • what a shredder

  • @JuniorShabbadu Oh yeah! Except in Flamenco it's called "legato", and it was invented a hundred years before most metal heads were born.

  • @murdelabop it was jingle jangle no talent crap then too. Maybe he should learn to play an actual song instead of diddling around on his fretboard like a high schooler who just discovered the 'guitar grimoire'

  • @TheTalonX [head shake] It's called "improvisation", and Flamenco, like Jazz is built on it. Just because _you_ don't like it doesn't mean it's crap, it just means _you_ don't like it. What Montoya is playing is a heavily embellished, vamped up version of Tarantas.

  • he looks tiny. very nice guitar playing nonetheless

  • His left hand looks like a spider on speed!

    Amazing guitaring

  • are you a god

  • absolutely amazed.. had my mouth hanging open!

  • awesome

  • I heard he headed for the kitchen at the start of every gig. duende.

  • Nobody tops Carlos Montoya.

  • Original shred

  • He plays with 5 strings ? Where is the high E string?

  • @tchek1980

He used black strings very often....look

  • @tchek1980 It's there, the other 5 strings are wound, including his B! The high E is less visible because it's monofilament.

  • I agree with littlejay6, how can we compare one flamenco guitarist against another, they all have their own individual styles, that,s what flamenco is about,it would be pretty boring if they all played the same: also keep dreaming "blaksephirot" TOSSER !!! a Yorkshire saying. jojoman4249

  • Carlos is the greatest guitar player ever.

  • Spanish classical music + Romani music = great music. Amazing musician.

  • # 1.

  • Unbelieveable!

  • very,very,very cool. bb

Fenomenal

  • pues aquí lo ponen a parir.

  • Aquí dónde?

  • eat your heart out steve vai

  • lol check out this funny steve vai video its hilarious!

add this to the ?v= bit in the youtube url

    aiXR9ggRdFI

    carlos montoya rules!

  • can you imagine what those fingers could do to a girl...i am sure it would be exctasy for a girl :) I love flamenco music. peaze and love

  • vete a cagar, "maestro"

  • The goal of flamenco is to move spirit , soul and heart, and not body , even in the aspect dance....this music may to be heard(sorry for english I am French)in respectuous silent as in ZEN meditation...Respect and Thanks M. Carlos MONTOYA in the place... you are....

Pure "flamenco" , "pure duende" , some spanish don't like him because he lived in USA , and don't consider him as one of them..., but it is a Great Master , if somes want more rythm , there are others ""palos"" In the flamenco about 20 palos( or more) for each expression.... as bulerias ....

  • Fast and impressive, and in those terms, we can appreciate his talent. However, this doesn't sound like flamenco; he lacks rhythm and "duende", if we compare him with Sabicas or Niño Ricardo.

  • i love that name (its my name too).

  • @littlejay6 never say never :D

  • that was a musical journey wow!!!!

  • He is not from this planet

  • Poupee58: Remove your naive head from your ass, then watch and listen again.

  • Flamenco shredding! Awesome XD
