Actually, the song was co-written by David and Jim,who were living in Berlin at the time, it was originally released on The Idiot, which was produced by Bowie. Iggy gets a co-written status because David has always been charitable with his music. If you listen to the lyrics ans composition it screams BOWIE. I like this version too.
@arealOpia1991 We have conflicting sources, the idea may have been Jim's, but You can tell, It could have been on any of the Berlin trilogy.Anyway, the lyrics are too complicated and full of Bowie-esque references.
@arealOpia1991 btw, It's a good subject, and I wasn't saying you're lying or nothing, Iggy isn't that complex or given to that style of referencing.Love 'em both.Peace and have a good weekend!
@blooddonor70 i appreciate that but &our sources r definitely conflicting but totally disagree that iggy isn't that complex - in simplicity there is truth and iggy is the epitome of that-striped bare in every sense of the word he expresses so much becos he is such a total raw enigma which makes him 1 of the most complex figures of all time..& that doesn't mean also, he is never inclined to such referencing-there are plenty examples in the stooges less prominent catalogue like no sense of crime..
@blooddonor70 ..i love david bowie too but he is definitely more of a technician and dramatic artist, but i do loooove his art and love them both too x))
@dfused44 it surely was not sung by Bowie first... he popularised it in the 80s which finally got iggy some well deserved royalties when Bowie released his version ... it appeared first on Iggys record the idiot 77... they both composed the basic music on toy drums-iggy and piano-bowie and the lyrics are all iggys x)
..... and to make note of something that no one yet has bothered to mention .... THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL COVER BY JOHN X) ... LOVE JOHN FRUSCIANTE X)))

Bowie version of china girl miss the first few line of lyric, those few first line tell about how the china girl is doing an overdose.
also the china girl was the wife of iggy at the time

The crowd talking all the way through is shameful, this is how this song should sound. Amazing cover.

It was originally on an Iggy Pop album "The Idiot" but I'll let you off =P.
Lylodile 1 year ago
@Lylodile but since the album was mostly produced musically and lyrically by Bowie, it could be said that this is Bowie's song.
