Good question. There is the possibility that he can hear to some extent but I think a better explanation is that there was some sort of visual cue, weather it was the him reading lips, or seeing the lips move and the facial expression, or a hand signal, or a mixture of some or all of these.

this is very interesting! he must've written the rhymes in writing since it's the written words that rhyme. or can you "rhyme" in sign language as well? if you look at rhyming it's just words that look/sound like each other so you should be able to do that in sign too. but then I guess it won't make sense to someone who doesn't speak sign language?

In American Sign Language, the "spoken" form is signed and the written form is written American English. The signs don't "rhyme" in the sense of having a sound- this would be impossible- but the words they represent do.

An interesting experiment would be to write lines that end with the same sign or a similar looking sign/gesture... as you suggest... perhaps there's an equivalent in the world of dance choreography.

I recognized some of the signs he used (cuz I'm studying sign language but I'm a complete beginner), and they looked normal but probably with more attitude I guess. Like how we hip hop folks got our own slightly different language in the spoken world as compared to regular people.
