Thanks for sharing the Davis Sisters. Almost a year ago my grandaughter was listening to some songs on youtube and I asked her if she could see if they had old gospel songs like the Davis Sisters,Caravans,Clara Ward and such.I've been listening every since. Thanks again and God Bless! I should be sleep; know I have to get up and go to church soon.
This is an alternate take. It's fascinating to compare this version with the one officially released and included on "When Gospel was Gospel." I think the released versions were always the best ones. But even a foretaste of glory is plenty divine when you've got Baby Sis warming up on her best number.
I LOVE BABY SIS!!! She is the only other singer after Prof. Bradford that I want to hear sing it. I grew up watching them on Jubilee Showcase every Sunday morning on Channel 7 out of Chicago, IL. Love this post...keep it up mane!!!
I was living in Chicago back in the sixties and had the opportunity to see the Davis Sisters many times. As a matter of fact they came to my church, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, and tore up the broadcast. Pastor Evans couldn't do a thing after that service. Those women were something else. Quartet group did not like to be on the same program with them, because they knew what Ruth was going to do.
Ruth's voice was so good that she'll make you run into a wall literally. I bet alot of the men quartets were mad at her and those sisters because those ladies would clean house and kill everyone there in the place well so I've heard lol.
Well from what i have been told, other gospel quartets "hated" (in a friendly way of course( doing shows with The Davis Sisters, cause Ruth and nem would just clean house! Only one person could sing harder then them all combined, and that was Dorothy Love Coates!
Right especially after them lol! Yeah Dorothy of course brought hers too. I've also heard that the late Edna Gallmon Cooke wasn't nothing to mess with either.
Hey Tim did I tell you about the time, Bessie Griffin almost got into a fist fight with one of the quartet groups at a program. lol. Nothing but the devil. lol.
I love my Aunt Dot with all my heart, and all of my life. I loved Ruth in her lifetime too. But We shouldn't compare them like that, Ruth Davis sang the way God anointed her, and My Aunt Dot sang the way God anointed her. They are both great.
I know you'll do. I was just picking cause you and Tim been putting up videos, when I'm not looking. lol. For Shame!!! Are you gonna post the Bessie Griffin or what? Or do I have mush you up, SEE!!! lol.
Dorothy Love Coates was a great composer and singer. I remember some of the songs she wrote while the bus boycott and sit-ins were going on in the south and other parts of the country one of which was "They've Got The Word" and others. Mrs. Love was very encouraging to me during those rough times. I was living in Chicago during the sixties and it was no fun, but, I always had my church and the gospel music of the caravans, davis sisters, dot love-coates and the original gospel harmonettes.
DaSourcepr06, you think you slick, huh? I see you sneeked in this song and didn't tell me. It seems like I'm going to have to give you detention hall. lol. Great post brother from the wonderful Davis sisters.
Have you heard Bessie Griffin that she did live? You can hear Mother Ward and Clara Ward in the background. It's priceless.
LOL, well I had to pull one out I hadnt heard in a while myself, lol at detention hall! But no, I havent heard Bessie Griffins, that would be awesome to hear The Wards in the back ground!
DaSourcespr06, give me a little while to search for that old record, with Bessie Griffin singing too close to heaven live. When I find it will post it for you.

Yes and she also had some powerful sermonettes too. Edna was doing runs before it even became popular to do them lol.
