@MRMOE12345 Well please check Victor Willis's website (original cop). He said on his website that all of his former band mates were gay except him. Well, I kinda believe so.
@rr7firefly1 For many reasons, please see Wikipedia and the review on Youtube, it is very camp, cheesy and extremly suggestive. If you have not see it please see it but don't be surprised by it's cheesiness!
@rr7firefly1 For many reasons, check the review on youtube, "can't stop the music review", well to start with the scenario and script was awful, the lead actors (you will be surprised) we not acting all that good, the story was a complete disaster. Finally the Village People had nothing to do with the movie, the story is not about them, they are fillers added to this movie. Also the direction was very cheesy, the movie is a camp classic, you know!
this song if no one knew it was the village people, they would say how poppy and good of a song it is. think hodo got him some poontang, even if he is gay!
@deddoll13 hi i spotted you like the track" so do i im a village fan" u can find the track on the orignal soundtrack album can't stop the music" via amazon uk i belong to amazon and buy all my muisc threre u can just dowload the m3 from the amazonstore for 0.69p i hope this helps u im trying to get the same song" i wish u all the best john.
@zaniac100 I know, also the producers had to really cover what Village People represented to appeal from the mass audience, that were largely unaware of what Village People represented.
@zaniac100 My sister was madly in love with him when this came out. She was also 12 and was probably a bit ignorant of what gay men were. Don't forget we are talking 1980 here.
@mooneepondskid I was 12 and saw this film in the cinema in 1980/1981 in Aust. (Twin cinema where only other option was Xanadu.) I do not think I fully understood what it meant to be gay, though the subtext (and nude/nearly nude men in the YMCA sequence) was *not* lost on me. This film was on GO! free-to-air last night followed by Thank God It's Friday. The director of this was Nancy Walker who acted in (and directed) the odd ep of the Mary Tyler Moore show.
@mooneepondskid I missed the start, turning on to see Samantha deriding Jack's vocals on the demo. I watched up to Magic Nights. This and Magic Nights are the best parts of the film. I rarely watch free to air and the high number of ads on Go! was unbearable! Otherwise I would have watched TGIF which is quite a lot of fun. As it was I switched over to watch a Kathy Griffin comedy routine on Foxtel. I switched back and luckily saw the YMCA bit-which is pretty good too. (In Flemington, Vic here.)
@schwanny Well off course I saw it, but it was normal, well OK OK it is gay! But the rest of the movie is well, not that much gay. The film producers had a goal to stay away from the gay image VP had!!
holy shit how dare you! This movie is the greatest bad film ever. This scene & the auditions, the comic relief (or lack thereof)...bruce jenner....If you like bad movies this is the best of the worst.
Why is a gay guy singing to a bunch of girls...?

@gayguy666999 No, The cop, the construction worker and the biker are the straight ones. Even if they dance the most flamboyantly at times.

@zaniac100 The film has nearly no reference to the gay underworld that the group emerged from, but it did had some subtle hits though.
