@Themgoroth616 they may or may not literally exist, but they have very real effects on the world from people belief in them. And the satan I believe in is more than the christian devil.
@jacob3329 I've seen speed metal, too. There are more genres of metal than there are bands. Sometimes the only way to distinguish two genres is by the bands. BG, especially because of Sacred Worlds and Wheel of Time, are considered to be orchestral metal. Whatever, as long as it's great music, I don't care what label it has.
This song makes you fucking wanna ride a very fast motored vehicle while knocking everything off the road and yelling "AAAAAHHHHHHH FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Every time I see this cover the first thing that comes to mind is
"that conductor looks like such a douchebag."
It's like he's physically recoiling at how bad the orchestra is and since were listening to Blind Guardian that just multiplies his level of douchebaggery.
Lol... on the back cover of the booklet there's also a picture of the band sitting in the audience, but they're all asleep. Maybe BG are poking fun at themselves?
Easily in my top 5 favorite Blind Guardian songs and the powerful lyrics are just phenomenal! It's a shame these type of songs spark petty religious 'debates'. People just need to chill and respect other beliefs without resorting to insults.
Personally, I think this song is from Judas' point of view rather than Jesus' because of the line "Shame on me, shame on me, I'm a tool and nothing more". Also, "Nazarene your vision will come true" seems as if Judas is talking to Jesus.
Agreed, I love the lyrical themes especially from this album, although I believe this song is telling the final moments of Jesus from the perspective of a Roman soldier, or someone in charge of making the cross and the crown of thorns. Although it may be interpreted as you said, as Judas, saying stuff about Jesus' vision, the destiny, "destiny personified", etc...
Satan is your worst enemy. Note: I find it very interesting that discussions of God, religion, heaven and hell are often spurred by these Blind Guardian songs.
I would think that Nyarlathotep is my worst enemy, but then again...your note shows an interesting aspect of these songs, for it is through discussion (theological or no) that we may expand our understanding of such matters. Saying "hail Satan" may perhaps be immature, but no more than saying that a man who died two millenia ago is a friend, godly as he may have been. I quite like this song, but I prefer The Edge...
@gimmesomejesus satan would never destroy all life on earth, can't say the same for god, satan would never ask you to kill your first born, can't say the same for god.
God says to obey everything he says, satan says question authority. I consider satan a friend more than god.
Well, if you want so..... Satan is only the opposite of God.... but God created Satan. So he will always lose against him...well if they existed, which would be pretty ridiculous.
@GodofChookie God actually told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. He, of course, stopped him: "Whoa dude WTF are you doing? I was kidding. Lighten up. Jesus Christ, Son of the Lord your God." - Genesis.... er.... something or other.
@DarkOmenofLight You ever consider the fact that maybe Satan wants you to consider him a friend, so that he can kill your firstborn and destroy all life on earth? [And by the way, the reason he hasn't destroyed all life on earth, is because God hasn't let him..So you might want to reconsider your facts before you go picking sides.]
How can he consider facts, when Christianity, just as Satanism and all other religions, are a belief in themselves, and are not facts at all?
Why is this brainwashing talk of religion on a BG clip anyway? wouldn't it be appropriate to discuss the music, rather than your own personal beliefs that are completely irrelevant to BG anyway?
@B1GH0RSE why would satan bother with that because God already did that. He flooded the Earth and almost killed everyone and then he killed all of the first borne sons of Egypt. God = Satan
... Hail satan?... in a blind guardian song?... come on kid, grow up. To say that an atheist approves with a christian for once... oh well, you never know.
@knobbyz being more complex instrumentally and having more serious lyrical topics doesn't always make a better album. While ANATO has some of my favorite Blind Guardian songs on it, it also has some of their most boring filler tracks. Albums like SFB and IFTOS have the maturity of a band who knows what they're doing while still maintaining a purely raw and intense feel throughout their duration. ANATO on the other hand tends to be a bit more heavy-handed and bombastic in its approach
The one thing I don't like about religion (even though I am religious) is all the conservative assholes shoving the bibles down everyone's throats, starting wars, saying gay people will go to hell, and using religion as a tool to accomplish their agenda. They make the rest of us look bad.
religion neednt be a bad thing even if its often used because of bad reasons... and i have to say that im not religious and even if i belive that most of the bible is bullshit i often notice something between me and the rest... im sure theres is something like a *god* .... at least i hope^^
retrozim i would just wish all religious could be like you, thats the meaning i would like to see, when i go to church for playing bass i cant only be amaze how all the people are friendly and happy , but crappy people preaching the bible high and without any conclusion unless its writing in it just desperate me
Amen Im religious myself, but i think my life morale is, Live and let live Shoving religion down someones throat wont make them like it lol only God can....So I just sit back and chill out ^_^
It has been confirmed more than once by interviews that Hansi is a Christian; it has also been confirmed by other interviews that Marcus is an atheist and Thoman (sp?) is a metaphysical relativist.
As for Andre... not sure, but I've always been curious. All that said, Hansi's faith really shines out in the recent track, "The Edge," which is essentially about the Acts of the Apostles.
Who cares if they're Christian or not. I know Hansi is and I'm pretty sure Andre is (not sure). For judging a band it comes down to one thing and one thing only--the music.
also i should add that it's supposedly from pilate's view, or at least this is what i read. pilate is generally not seen as an antagonist in christian teachings, but rather a unwitting participant in the crucifixion (you could equate his role in the christ's execution as what we would call "judge")
judas, on the other hand, directly betrayed jesus. i think the difference between the two is important in the context of these lyrics.
Nah, not even a bit. If it is Jesus' crucifixion, it's still ancient history, and that's what BG usually goes for. Really cool ancient history. They haven't changed, they're just making songs about everything. Still the same bad ass metal band I listened to before.
Blind Guardian are from germany ... and in these days im proud of be german :P one time in school i should make a lesson about heavy metal and so on.... and this song i played in class and my friends and me just .... made... HEADBANG xD
blind guaardian wouldn't so happen to be a christian metal band would they? I mean there's a part that says "...to sacrifice to crucify the rescue of the human kind" sounds like Jesus. Plus it mentions galileans, which are mentioned many a time in the bible. Then there's a part that says "The kings in town we need a crown i think we all know how it ends." Just a thought. I'm a christian so those things just sorta stood out to me.
Um if it took you that long to figure out what it's about than you have problems. No they are not a full on christian band. Hansi is a christian, and I am 2. We aren't bible beater's though, lol. Anyway no, biblical themes and mythological themes are always great for metal. Hell look at the song "another holy war"
