I recently went to the Grand Canyon and saw grownups standing 2-3 feet from and edge with a 2-3,000 foot drop posing for pictures. (as if you really need to be that close to the end of the rock to get a good picture of the entire canyon) . Foolish people being foolish with their lives.

An overhang like that woud likely have loose , small rocks all over it . People try to get a better look at Yosemite Falls and die quite often , even at what looks relatatively ' safe ' has tons of danger of wet rocks for a waterfall , loose rock on the overhang , or just plain losing balance when in such a frightening situation .

I've stood on that point about 80 times, first when I was ten years old. My point is, if you are smart, you'll be fine. Just don't stand too close to the edge. It's about as dangerous as riding in a car standing on that point.

@psrecords It really wasn't that dangerous. You have a better chance of getting killed in a car accident a mile from your home, then you do slipping off a cliff at the grand canyon. It was a very large rock formation with plenty of standing room. It wasn't dangerous.

Having been on that rock, approximately 700 m to the left of the lodge on the south rim, I can say that the drop is on 10 ft down, before you end up on a platform that is "walled" off from the cliff. That rougher looking rock in the foreground actually hides the ledge I am talking about.
I wasn't able to go within 50 feet of the edge of the Grand Canyon without shaking and trembling but give me a high railing over my head and I'm just fine. I'll walk right up and look out over the edge.
The only things that are taking those kids off of the cliff are someone pushing them.... and their own curiosity with a free fall to the ground. If they were stupid, you would see them jumping off. People like to explore.
Those kids ARE stupid....people die every year from falling over the rim of the GC by doing what they were doing right there. just because something like that LOOKS stable, does NOT mean it is.

I think the children's behavior is *disgusting*. I mean look at them, just standing their quietly observing natures wonders. They *sicken* me. Their parents ought to be *ashamed* with the knowledge of raising such *beasts*. The person behind the camera is obviously a much smarter person, you know, pointing the camera at some children he doesn't know rather than the great big-ass canyon beyond. Having been on that rock, approximately 700 m to the left of the lodge on the south rim, I can say that the drop is on 10 ft down, before you end up on a platform that is "walled" off from the cliff. That rougher looking rock in the foreground actually hides the ledge I am talking about.

I wasn't able to go within 50 feet of the edge of the Grand Canyon without shaking and trembling but give me a high railing over my head and I'm just fine. I'll walk right up and look out over the edge.

The only things that are taking those kids off of the cliff are someone pushing them.... and their own curiosity with a free fall to the ground. If they were stupid, you would see them jumping off. People like to explore.

Are you advocating for more laws?stricter punishments? Maybe U could stop trying to control others lives. @MrJashJashJash as a former east german having lived in the usa for quite a while i highly value the ideas the founding fathers (and i mean all ppl) that have left europe to claim sovereignty even if that meant starting all over and risking often ones own life. the german word for freedom does not closely describe what it means for a real freeman who can not give in to threats coz it is regarded paramount to pleasure and safety. i honestly hope that spirit does get preserved by some grown ups.
