  • 2:23 - 2:31 ......fuck yea such melodic phrasing and such badass melodic bends towards the end.

  • 2:31 to 2:34 fuck!! What a kind of lick is that, Im tryng to got it more than a hour and simply doesn't work

  • Is shredding basically just playing scales really fast?

  • thats an amazing picking technique.

  • Met this dude a couple times. He's pretty cool and does really awesome as the leader of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra

  • Awesome, he is one my top 3 of the best lead guitarrist of megadeth with friedman and broderick

  • Thanks for posting this. Pitrelli is an amazing guitarist and the most innovative and resourceful. There's a reason why he's part of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. He's my favorite guitarist of all time

  • his face on this video is like a mix between JOE SATRIANI and NICK MENZA right? think about it

    awesome guitar player...

    ___METAL UP YOUR ASS___

  • @sysmeta I'd rather say that his face is a mix between John Petrucci and Nick Menza....

  • @satchsatch33 maybe yes, maybe not, but maybe yes...

  • Every time I see the credit "Charylu Roberts", I know I'm about to watch some kick ass shit. Arlen's videos stand the test of time and THEN some.

  • badass

  • peavey odyssey

  • Does anyone have the tab for this tune? Name? Anything?

  • @greggwolin The song is "Ouch"

  • my dad went to school with him he said that he was captain of the football team and spent like all of his time playing guitar

  • im sure al got his good share of pussy throughout the years .lol

  • Just one word ...INCREDIBLE!

  • no offense but the song reminds me a bit to "Erotic Nightmares by Steve Vai, great song indeed

  • @rallyivan1234 forget vai!

  • What is this song?

  • 02:20 is orgasmic!!!

  • Al I don't know if you can remember back to high school but do you remember "ASTRO"

    I Love ya buddy Ed

  • Al ISN'T the "best guitarist ever", but surely is really talented. I really expected more from him while playing in Megadeth, but his work was good. Maybe he needs to put more from him on-stage, but that's something he can improve.

By the moment, I don't think he's underrated. He has just got the rate he deserves.

Sometimes we only see the good in everyone, but unfortunately that's not enough for what they are doing.

  • i fuckin hated the rhythm sections but he is such a good fuckin guitarist, loved the solo's

  • so underated

  • I took some lessons from Al when he was teaching at FOCUS II Music in Bellmore NY 1987. He taught me Mr. Crowley/Crazy Train/Paranoid. Big Ozzy fan here.

  • Awesome!

  • SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOODDD! And very very underrated!

  • ahaha he is so under rated..reason i say this is cause hes my friends dad...believe it or not ...but me n my boy watch him play everyday...hes doing such good work with transiberrian orchestra

  • felhero... ahaha he is so under rated..reason i say this is cause hes my friends dad...believe it or not ...how sick is that

  • he is great!!!

  • clamoroso.

  • Pitrelli could have done so much more with megadeth wonder why he didnt. Not to say his playing on The World Needs A Hero wasnt great but i mean looking at this puts some of his work on that album to shame XD

  • that was...awesome!!!

  • Hell yeeeaahhh....Pitrelli is tearing that shit apart...

  • Superb player.....def agree very underrated.

  • 2:28 epic bend

  • one of the most melodic intro's to ANY star/hot licks vid!! superb phrasing. god i love pitrelli

  • I had no idea Al could play like this. I'm in awe!

  • 0:28 sick

  • i like his style,,cool

  • I saw him on Alice Cooper Trashes The World ( my favorite ), Megadeth Rude Awakening and a bit on Savatage ( made Jon Oliva laugh on a music )...

He's an awesome guitarrist. One of my favorite, too.

  • Look at that picking hand, holy crap

  • He flicks his thumb! In your face Michael Angelo!

    Great player! (Not MAB ;))

  • :27- :29...What the fuck? How do you articulate pentatonics like that with only your left hand? Sounds like they are picked.

  • @krelbar I just saw him last night with TSO, and saw him use this technique many times. Never noticed it before, but yes, it's flawless and every note sounded picked. Unreal!!!! Nice guy, too....talked to him for a few seconds in the autograph line. Awesome show!!!!

  • @krelbar You ever played guitar before through an amp? it does that...especially if the amp is turned up loud...the louder it is, the more your hammer-ons/offs will sound like picking...words from the wise

  • @NicholasDunlap Have I ever played guitar through an amp? Of course. This sounds like a direct recording here. My post was more in awe of the technique.

  • @krelbar Yea I know what you mean you were just amazed when you heard it. I was way amazed when I first saw this vid about 5 years when it was first added. I'm just saying the way he achieves that sound is you know a loud amp/effect like we discussed but they key is just slamming your fingers to the fretboard as fast and hard as you can. If you do that it sounds like you will be picking every note.

  • Al is a great player . Saw him live when he was in Megadeth .

  • What is the name of this song and where can I download it?

  • damn... looks so easy when the guitar's in his hand, but when it's in my hand, all i can say is "goddamn it!"

  • this guy is AMAZING!!!...great song, great video, great musician!!!...GREAT!!! 5/5

  • I give 500 stars!!!

  • He picks at such an odd angle...I dunno how he does it. But he obviously makes it work. Five stars

  • if you think this is odd then look up marty friedman :D

  • Haha oh, I know dude. But Friedman sorta makes sense...this pick angle is so much I don't know how he gets such a clean sound

  • Yeah, and how fast he flicks his thumb and forefinger for alternate picking...very unorthodox...gets the job done for him, though, and that what counts!

  • Great Guitarist !! Great Theme !

  • Pitrelli is wicked!

  • fuck yeah! he's good, five stars!

  • Just awesome..... wish I could get this on DVD... Is this track available anywhere? If so, what's the name?

  • This guy and Andy Timmons are my two favorite guitarists.

    Great video!

  • Al is the best I love it.

  • I got to see Al at a clinic around the time of the Alice Cooper gig. Great player and a great guy.

  • @ (so-called) ScytheofGod: IT IS JUST YOU!

He played for: Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Savatage and Blue Öyster Cult. You're a dork who can't play, let alone do better.

  • Wow, I've never heard fusion played as awesomely as this before.

  • that is real music!

  • You make it look so easy.

  • Maybe my arrogance; but when they call it star licks, I feel I'm supposed to have hear d of this muthafucka, or is it just me?

  • He used to be in Alice Cooper´s group, he was a real shreder , he changed sooo much over the years

  • Thank you Vanisha, and might I add, you have a lovely name:)

  • Comment removed

  • al is a real nice guy. hes my neighbor

  • @FreakinRican6969 Lucky!

  • whats a spic is HE one?

  • 2:24 - 2:31 best lick ever finished by the most epic bends ever

  • 0:32 reminds me of the Sega Gamegear Shinobi level where you're jumping on cars.

  • the thing i like about him when hes standing he cant play super low and still can play fast

  • amazing stuff

  • 9-26-2009. Happy Birthday, Al. Well, you caught up with me today (at 47). Hey, maybe you can come perform in Columbia, SC and/or Augusta, GA sometimes. Think about it.

  • al is one hell of a guitarist. my girlfriend lives in pennsylvania next door to al and i've heard some cool things about him

  • yea whatever go screw yourself pal

  • Beleive that is a Peavey Odyssey guitar..read good reviews on them....

  • Anyone paid some attention to the bassline, that's really cool too (sorry can't help it I play bass myself) ; ).

  • when i hung out with al, he used the really small Gibson heavy/medium teardrop picks. He picked in a forefinger/thumb rotational method- twenty odd years ago.

  • awesome one of my favorite guitarrists (also one of the most underrated)

  • mine two!!!!!!

  • sick melodies..........like a swedish folky melody

    great guitar player \m/

  • does anybody know what type pick he uses?

  • the pick of destiny, my friend, the pick of destiny. :)

  • HE HE HE HE HE very clever!!!!

  • @Xallez The pick of destiny belongs to Dave Mustaine ;]

  • holy shit,, thiss is one of the greatest guitar performances ive ever seen

  • I can't understand why he plays in playback..

  • Post more ! I have seen the modes video with pitrelli also..but please..upload clips from this instrucional video !

  • Wow. This is not the same man who played on Rude Awakening.

  • yes it is

  • lol.

    IDUNBELIEVEYOU.

  • Haha 11808936 thats what I thought.

  • LEGATO @ 0:27 is sick!

  • No shit! I watched that bit like 20 times.. This man is hella-better than he portrayed himself on The World Needs A Hero!

  • I love his picking technique

    its amazing

  • brain explosion at around :27 with the legato thing.

  • MMMMM!!..... in a second thought, it was not that much that Pit didn´t do that great in Megadeth...... it´s just that TWNAH was a mediocre album, the worst Megadeth album, at lest for me!!

  • risk was BY FAR the worst megadave album.

  • Not musically, is just that Risk wasnt that RUDE.... but its great..... and i didnt like TWNAH that much

  • I´m a BIG MegadetH fan, and i didn´t like Pitrellis work with them very much.....

But it doesn´t mean that he is bad.....

In fact he is GREAT..... just not the kind of guitar player for Megadeth....

    BUT HE´S DAMN GREAT!!!!

  • dave mustane sucks monkey ass.this dude is miles better

  • Duse, i love MegaDeth....but the thing that makes me mad is that Dave said that Pitrelli was one of the worst guitarist on megadeth..... GAY

  • Actually, he didn't do really good in Megadeth. But check his work with T.M. Stevens, it's great !

  • The problem with Al, in Dave words, was that Pitrelli was an alcoholic in the Megadeth days.. So he played bad in some shows... Recently Dave says that Al was great in Megadeth.

    Sorry for my english!

  • The Megadeth Live DVD with Al, lets just say if you are for Al (which I am) don't watch it. His playing was very sloppy for that show.

  • I love Rude Awakening dvd...

And Marty Friedman, when he saw that dvd said that Pitrelli played absolutely fine...

  • hehehe, imagine marty friedman saying that... but in his mind... (huh... what a sloppy fuck hehehe)

  • Not man.. Marty said that really!!

  • the way his pinky slides up to keep the legato riff going reminds me of matt heafy from trivium. (not an insult, just look like)

  • dose any one know the name of this tune or have a copy :) , its damn good XD

  • Al is playing "Ouch". It's from his CD with the MoJo Brothers. You can somtimes find it on eBay. The rest of the CD is just as good.

  • In what band is he playing

  • Savatage, Trans-siberian Orchestra, O'2L, Alice Cooper, Widowmaker, Asia, Randy Coven, TM Stevens, Joe Lynn Turner, Hotshot, Place Called Rage, Flesh And Blood, Morning Wood, Megadeth and many More....

Today he is guitarist of savatage, tso and O2'L

  • To xdarrenx

I've heard lots of Eric johnson and trust me, I'm aware of how much he does that, as well. But Al does it sooo damn fast... faster than I've ever seen Eric Johnson do it... but don't get me wrong, Eric Johnson is veryy good, too.

  • to TSharr626;

lol? It's a lick of half a second, Ej can definitely play that fast.

    /watch?v=2Sh1P0earDU

Check at 1:27, it's a tad slower ,but it's all picked and involves huge string skipping.

If r a guitarist, then you know that picking 2 nps at those speeds is insane, and with the string skips and big interval leaps in it makes it even harder.

Al plays legato here on a standard pentatonic lick without string skipping which doesn't require 2 hand coordination and is not all that hard to do.

  • that was fuckin sick. yeah he is really underrated

  • he is man. hes so wicked.

  • Btw, anyone know who played drums for this song?

  • Are you serious?

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahah u fuckin retard

  • Drums by joe franco

  • hahaha i'm pretty sure he was joking lolz no-one that musically uneducated would be checkin out an Al Pitrelli solo

  • Amazing guitarist.

  • I think Al was alot ! better than Drover .

  • Awesome picking style... amazing playing!!

  • killer ,,great player

  • UNDERRATED!! clean solo.. nice

  • Al's crazy...

He plays so smoothly and it all fits in with the songs and he plays so mellowly and makes it seem so simple...

I've seen him live a couple times and heard him just screwing around playing little solos or riffs, it's insane how good he is...

  • Marty Friedman, hands down.

    Chris Broderick is good too.

  • Not really, but ok.

  • al pitrelli makes my penis longer and my anus very wet

  • hah you crack me up

  • Is this song for Hot Licks?I wanna get this song!

  • Saw him at HP.....amazing show....amazing AL even with the bum knee....never missed a note!. I could tell that he hated sitting down the whole time.

  • Just saw him with TSO. What a monstrous player!

  • A M A Z I N G ¡ ¡ ¡

  • part of this kinda has that "Ice 9" kinda sound/groove to me. I have always enjoyed Al's work.

  • Great smooth playing

  • Hey, Folks...this is a HOT LICKS video, not STAR LICKS...big difference!!! Better change the heading!

  • He kind of reminds me of Tony MacAlpine. I wonder who has been playing longer?

  • Awesome! Is this the video where he talks about primaries? If so where can I get it? I lost it years ago and I never even watched the whole thing...sux! I really want to know what else is on it.

  • I love his style!

  • Al is fuckin amazing. One of the best out there

  • One of my top influences!

  • Dude can flat out play

  • too right, never actually seen anyone play something like at 0:28 before

  • Such an under-rated guitar player!!

  • Amen!

  • savatage rultz damn it ....hes much better as batio and lynch!!!

  • At 26 seconds, he plays blazing fast sextuplets only using two notes per string. That's ridiculous!!! Who can move their fingers that fast???

  • hahaha i just saw this. he's amazing!

  • To TSharr626

The lick at 0:28 sextuplets at 2 notes per string.

Have you ever heard an Eric Johnson solo? He does that kind of runs all the time.

  • I want tab!!

  • Who's the #1 worst lead guitarist of Megadeth???

  • glen drover

  • i liked glen drover alot, he was really good in my oppinion

  • Dave Mustaine!

Nah, just kidding, they've been blessed with some fantastic players, suchas mr drover, al, marty friedman, chris poland, etc, all maiking them the badn we know today. Though im a huge marty fan, id still have to say that my fave megadeth axeman is al. Absolutely loved the world needs a hero, and the live rude awakenings, as well as what he did with savatage and various other 'guitar jam' productions.

    Rock on dude!!

  • check out Al on Black Night a tribute to Deep Purple. He plays a really cool solo on "Black Night."

  • sound good man. CTROCK THE HIP HOP ROCK GUITAR ARTIST

  • Sorry, forgot to mention.... Not lacking emotion either... Plus it has some awesome riffing and rhythms as well :D!

  • Al Pitrelli rocks! where can I get the complete video of this?

  • Wow! This is the first time I've ever heard or seen this guy. He's got phenomenal picking technique!!! I was astonished during 1:28-1:32... The motion is completely in his fingers!
