  • man I LOVE that sound 2:24/25 at the end there. Wonderful and touches my heart everytime!!! And makes me wanna hear the whole piece again! :')

  • Ave Maria, for me, should always be played on the cello

  • they played this in the korean movie "Cello" and damn ... I fell in love with this piece! <3 Creepy movie btw!

  • Different class. Superb

  • beautiful

  • Great performance!

  • Wonderful stuff!

  • @DrQuackMD yes, those in allegro are easier than those in largo.

  • One of my favourite songs to play on one of my favourite instruments.A good cellist(or any musician, for that matter)doesn't play the notes written on the scores, they play the music from their hearts.no matter how cheesy that sounds, it's true. Sure, good technique helps, but a musician who doesn't truly love what they're doing isn't going to go far. And personally, i'm drawn to the middle range instruments, I play french horn, cello, bass guitar (a bit low, but whatever), and many others, too.

  • People underestimate the beautiful sound of the cello. I, myself, play the cello and I love it more than the violin. The cello is able to reach low and high notes. It will give off a beautiful sound if the cellist is into their music enough. More emotion means the easier the story is being told

  • this reminds me of LOTR........... LOVE IT!

  • everything sounds better with a cello, most beautiful solo instrument!

  • let's play cello

  • love the gliding notes so much :)

  • i think cello is the best instrument for ave maria bach

  • the notes in this song are not complicated, im a first year cello player btw :) but what makes it so hard is all vibratto, haha

  • Comment removed

  • @chrisguz94 I had such a hard time with Vibrato because of my carpel tunnel x.x

  • Did anyone else notice how angelic his bow looks at 1:53 omg omg omg omg omgom ogmogmomg

  • I play cello and im going to have a concert soon anyways I love how he plays. Its beautiful

  • @kawaiiness4you Good luck with the concert.

  • I love the violin im planing on geting one. but i also love the cello. I dont have enough money to buy a cello so im going to buy a violin. even tho. i really adore the cello.

  • @AGirlWithSkills ME TOO! I wish there were manufacturers who'll sell it at a cheaper price... It's kinda Frustrating

  • i play cello :) i love it!!

  • well I'm glad too that I chose cello

    It is wonderful

  • Is he left handed?

  • @Denialll Why do you ask?

  • @Denialll

It doesnt matter what "handed" you are.

All string players play the fingerboard with the left and bow with the right, it's just how it's been done.

  • im glad i chose cello

  • Im 14 , always wanted to play the cello , but never did !

do i still got a shot it ?

  • @fadyadelnageeb dude, Im 21 and im desperate to play cello,.. 14 is a good age to start.. as long you got the will and determination ^^..

  • @jokitino90 I'm almost 25 and picked the cello 3 months ago and doing pretty well. Granted, I've played piano most my life and trombone since middle school, but a string instrument is a very different style of playing. I agree with cresentmoon12123, you're never too old to start an instrument. You're still a kid at 21, after all!

  • @fadyadelnageeb Your never too old :]

  • @fadyadelnageeb Absolutely! I'm almost 25 and picked it up 3 months ago. Loving every moment of it! My fingers could say otherwise, but they'll get over it!

  • @fadyadelnageeb

hell i started when i was 12, never got serious still i was 14

  • whys he playing at the bottom of the Cello??

ive got the sheet music and theres only one note at he bottom and thats an E

  • @y789789123 You probably overlooked the clef change (it's a tenor clef not the standard bass clef) in your sheet music. He has to play down there to reach the highest notes. Another reason is that you can use vibrato for every note + some transitions are easier that way.

  • absolutely beautiful

  • I never knew the cello was this beautiful

  • @SongsofInnocence

It is when he plays it

  • Oh, it is! =D

I'm glad I chose it over the violin at school

  • @SongsofInnocence i would argue the most beautiful instrument. Im a little bias tho haha

  • He's superb.

  • he makes it look so simple :o

  • it is

  • very nice. not by bach though. haha. its by Gounod. Bach wrote the prelude that sits under it

  • Technically true, however, from this very prelude compositions springs from the heart.

The prelude accompanies infinitely many tunes, all created in the mind of the listener.

Gounod sings one of the tunes.

In general I think you should not build on a masterpiece, however, this is so well done that Gounod is forgiven and praised.

  • woo hehe i am playing this fro solo and enssamble i need alot of practice this dude made me look like an amature

  • Maybe, because, you are an amateur? He's a professional. You're not.

  • Anything I say could not describe the beauty of this performance.

  • im going to his concert tonight.. <3

  • i love his vibratooo

  • i can play this on the violin, but i have to say pieces like this sound better on the cello

  • i freaking love this man!!!!!!

  • Ave Maria is one of my favorites

  • played beautifully, one of my most liked music...

  • ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • does anyone know where to get the music sheet for this?

  • the piano or the cello part?

  • 8notes and freesheetmusic has both parts

  • woooow!! awesome! beautiful music :D:D:D:D I love this piece and played with a Cello it's... a single it's AWESOME!!

  • I wish I can play the cello like him.

It has been such a long time since I practiced.

  • i fell in love, thanks to Ave Maria. Wish i could play it like he does

  • is there any song this man cannot play?!

  • ah my two favorites in one the cello and ave maria

my favorite vid on youtube at this momment

  • I'd say the slides are tasteful because of course the actual melody is by Charles Gounod, a Romantic composer, and is just set to the Bach prelude, so there's no call for period style playing with no slides etc.

  • Its not Bach's ave maria its from Gounod. The prelude that Gounod used its from Bach (Prelude No.1 in C from well tempered klavier) but the "Ave Maria" as it is now its an arrangement by Gounod.

  • What expressivity--one is not even aware of his technical effort--grandiose musician!

  • Do you think those slides are tasteful?

  • I love the 'slides'! He goes beyond his instrument - phrases just like a singer - beautiful.

  • julian is very good player

  • Simply beautiful!! Julian you are amazing!!

  • beautiful. the cello sings in his hands. Somehow, even though Ave Maria is very oftenly played I can never have enough of it :)

    Does he play Bach's aswell?

  • great, eventhough its extremly mainstream

  • what the fukc do you mean - 'mainstream'?! your a tw@t, simon. You aint got a clue about quality.

  • He means that Ave Maria is overused in the mainsteam media. He's not hating, so why hate? Just listen.

I don't know why I had to waste my time typing this to you.

  • But why does it matter? Just because a piece is used often doesn't make it less beautiful. Pachelbel's Canon and Bach's Prelude #1 are used constantly in media, and yet I can't get enough of them.

  • That said, this is not Schubert's Ave Maria. Simon probably got confused.

  • Prelude in C, so it's in C Major

  • OMG.. It´s simply great!

  • a question for those with perfect pitch, what key is this in?

  • g major i think.

  • I belive that this is the most beautiful version of Gounod´s Ave Maria for cello, Julian Loyd Webber can make the cello actually say the words Ave Maria, lisent carefully at the beginning, off course, it takes little musical sensibility to hear it.

  • AVE MARIA...GRATIA PLENA...serenidad, belleza excelsa...ORA PRONOVIS...esta maravillosa composiciòn sigue siendo favorita de muchos, universalmente. GRACIAS por el video.

    BENDICIONES.

  • So nice!!

  • How Beautiful!

  • Stunning

  • Just the right amount of rosin on his bow and strings to play this song. Otherwise you're screwed if you have to much or to little if you hit the low strings. I learned that the hard way on the double bass.

  • amazing!

  • damn it, I knew i should've taken up cello

  • Me too.....

  • @IshootURface You can start now! It's not too late.

  • @IshootURface

i know right. i started taking strings when i was 4 and because of my smart(sike) sister i had to quit

  • fucking awesome. best music by bach ever!!!!!!!!

  • I agree that is awesome. But the melody is not composed by Bach. Charles Gounod was. The piano part is a Bach's prelude over wich Gounod composed this beautiful and heavengly piece.

  • Both Cello and Piano blend beautifully together.....

  • I'm not that type of girl that like or litsen to this cind of music but i have to say.. This was so beautiful.

  • Our Holy Lady,ever smiling,will bless you,Maestro Webber...

    BRAVO!!

you're playing like only for HER

    ankhsnammon

  • I could cry!!! Beautiful.

  • Bach was the greatest of all time!

  • My favourite piece, and he plays it so well! Gratz to JLW, he deserves it!

  • b-e-a utiful!

  • beautiful ending... calms the soul

  • this is Gounod's Ave Maria. the piano is playing Bach's 1st Cello Suite (prelude) and the Ave Maria sits on top of it nicely.

  • The Piano is not playing Bach's Cello Suite No.1 Prelude. It's playing the accompanyment for Ave Maria. If it was playing the Suite as well as Ave Maria it would be a mess playing two different pieces together.

  • the Bach cello suite falls very well on top of Gounod's Ave Maria. If you watch Bobby McFerrin's videos then you will figure that out

  • Such a beautiful peice..

Quite the contrast from the usual Jazz I listen to, eh?

The last note really sends a shiver down your spine.(I wonder if I can get the sheet music for it..)

  • Ave Maria!!! this piece is a prayer for her and he plays it amazingly!!!.

  • I love this it's awesome!!!!!!!!! T-T I love Ave Maria because it can sound this beautiful!!! =]

  • omg its so beautifull ^^ I hope I can play like that someday x3

  • hes soooooo GOOOD

  • magnificent.

  • his dynamic changes were flawless!

  • Fantastic, that end note gave me goosebumps.

  • wow his shifting is so smooth and gentle. he's *speechless*

  • To be pedantic, JLW plays the Gounod part while the pianist plays the Bach Prelude No.1 in C major! It's rather beautiful, nonetheless :o)

  • Congratulations, is incredible

  • Oh my! I love this with a passion. He is simply incredible and this is my favorite song. I am in heaven while listening to this. I have a friend who plays this song for me on his cello frequently. Oh my! How wonderful it is!

  • Ferrin's amazing but I prefer Julian Lloyd Webber's version of the cello solo.

  • Excellent!

  • Bravo!

  • Thank You - Very Beautiful! I really appreciate your playing!

  • That wasn't him. That was JLW.

  • ...unless the uploader WAS jlw....
