This is the best version I have heard, after checking out many many others (thanks bodhranieb)...wonderful, tempo, harmony, everything. A trad American song done beautifully by a British group!
it's a revelation, (pardon the pun) to hear this again after almost 20 years...thank you! What is the origin of this song? Is it British? American? Who wrote it? Is it anonymous? thanks.
Love it! Thanks so much. Superb audio quality, too -- what a treasure! I've tagged the videos of "A Maid in Bedlam", "Black Waterside", and "John Barleycorn." More John Renbourn Group, please!
Thanks SO much for posting this song. I have searched ages and ages for this track after hearing a portion on the BBC Gaelic Weekend, A Musical Journey Around Ireland film.

It's a traditional gospel song. Check out Ricky Skagss and Tony Rice's version too. John Cowan does a marvelous job too.
