  • @haireymcflarey Just was too heavy is all. His form was ok, maybe his chin could have been lower but whatever. Still wasn't safe to be doing a super heavy weight with nowhere to drop the weight.

  • @haireymcflarey It depends on what he wants to do, if it's build muscle well it looks like a 1 rep max which isn't the best for that but excellent for strength, if it's to squat the max amount of weight, feet should be wider, bar lower, elbow up etc so not the best for strength but would be fine form for several sets of higher reps. It's difficult to comment until you know what his goals are.

  • The bar is on your neck, to high for even high bar squats. Your stance has your feet about shoulder width, not angled out enough for low bar squats, but exactly where you want to be on high bar squats

  • @JacktheDaniels That's not true. A spotter can help stabilize your core, thereby giving you more strength. If the spotter actually KNOWS what he is doing, he will apply pressure to the core, which simulates wearing a weight-lifting belt.

    That would be an assisted squat.

    You could get the same benefit by taking some weight off to a point where it's manageable unassisted. It's not a good idea to put on so much weight that, if your core is your weak link, attempting to squat x weight ends up with doubling over.

    It would be a better idea to work on strengthening your core to catch up with the level of your hips/legs. The body is a unit.

  • @JacktheDaniels I definitely don't disagree on strengthening one's core, but, in some cases, when you are doing several reps (such as super squats), your core will begin to get weaker and thus will need support. But if you can't handle the weight for at least 8 reps, then you should, indeed, lower the weight. By all means, I am not excusing good form; instead, I'm saying a spotter is a good source of mental motivation AND safety.
