@coolakiIlen007 bosch jetronic injection) although this particular 240 is most likely to be carbureted or to have K-jetronic, which is the same system as the one mercs from the 70s and 80s have. but volvo received electronic system earlier. and that electronic system (lh jetronic) is a bit more manageable. my friend is reassembling his KE-jetronic on a w124 he has recently bought at this moment) tough business.
@zloychechen5150 ok, well what i know the carbs. are the least reliable, but ive never heard of an injection problem with a merc to be honest, and Mercedes is the brand i am mostly into, since it has been in the family since my great grandfather only for the reason that they make the most reliable cars! ;) my grandpa has a w124 230E with 400 000kms, and the only thing which been changed regarding the engine is the kam chain. :P now it spends its time in the woods since 5 years..
@coolakiIlen007 well.. you're from sweden, right? thing is... if the car is properly serviced throughout its life no problems should be expected with a merc or a volvo. in russia things are a bit different)) after a car gets more than like 5 years of age owners decide for some reason that service is necessary when something goes wrong, so it does. PLUS the stuff that's used to de-ice roads is horrid. ruins everything.
@coolakiIlen007 i shall also say that m102 should be rebuilt at 400k. dont remember the exact figures, but there are two or three scheduled major engine repairs before the end of guaranteed block service life of 1m k.
@zloychechen5150 ah. well, i prefer the old ones. my w123 240D -83 is taxes free next year, and is well much cheaper to run than most petrol models more modern than it. ;) did you have a petrol w123? cus they are indeed quite thursty. :P
@coolakiIlen007 yup, 200 carb. m102. it was a bit thirsty for its performance (15 l/100km city; 95 petrol costs here about 0,74 euro/liter so that's not a big deal), but that is perhaps cuz the carb was pretty worn. though the reason for selling was bodywork, because i worked out that it wouldn't las long at any rate of repair.
@zloychechen5150 that is alot of petrol. ;) but here in Sweden the petrol costs roughly 1.5 euros per liter and diesel really shortly after so a thirsty car here is a nightmare. my 240D though avarages 7-8 liters / 100 kms. in Sweden those taxes free diesels are like "piggy banks" ;) very much money saved since the taxes are sky high!
@coolakiIlen007 but you have cheaper cars and cheaper parts, so i think it averages out.
our taxes are small (except if you have like 250 hp or more). and for a 240D (72 hp?) road tax would be something like 10-15 euros a year)) for my 131hp 740 i pay about 120 euros or something.
but a mint w123 can cost up to 20k. and clean importing would cost about 19k if i recall correctly.
@zloychechen5150 of course, but i wouldnt want to drive something im not sure if it will run enough to take me into town.. ;)
the taxes for my 240D is about 600 euros a year fully car registered just beacause its a diesel, but mine is "truck registered" which means you pick out the rear seat and put in a loading net behind the front seats and you get to pay half the tax! :P
a petrol in that age, would be like 160-220 euros..
@coolakiIlen007 Well, that's not the point. It's just that we'vegot very high import taxes because of the fucking autovaz car plant which makes shitty rubbish (i.e. ladas) and the govt wants to force us to buy that rather than cheap, comfortable and reliable used imports))
@zloychechen5150 well the lowest kind of insurance is "traffic insurance" which is compulsory for the car to be legal on the road but it doesnt cover anything, it costs for me about 150 euros a year. im not sure about bigger insurances, there are a lot of different kind of insurance companies.
the top speed of mine is/was 150km/h but ive only done 130 so far, i heard 140 is pretty smooth though.. ;)
@coolakiIlen007 i love the ease with which 123s gain speed) even though the power figures are quite pathetic on most models, the needle just climbs stubbornly)
@zloychechen5150 indeed! ;) i actually think it climbs easier over 100km/h. lots of torque it surprises most people when you go 90km/h and push it to the floor you get (a little) push in the back. not what you expect from a 72hp 1.6 ton lump! ;)
the limit has been raised to 120km/h ;) which is nice in my 240D when the noise of the engine kind of "disappears" at that frequence or something. :)
@zloychechen5150 well, since its an old merc, cold starts are no problem, but my glowplug light is out so i have to guess when the glowplugs are warm which can take from 10-35 seconds. ;) but the diesel is good where i am. :) even if it costs a fortune ..
@zloychechen5150 well this winter has been mild, about -10 to -15°c ;) usually -20 to -30 sometimes but colder than that you need starter help or battery is DEAD. so battery gives before the car does. :P where i live (relatively south) it rarely gets that cold. ;)
@coolakiIlen007 well it's pretty much the same here. this winter it was down to -30 something at night. my battery was at the end of its life cycle, so i was always parking on a decline)) just in case.
and when i bought a new battery........ it got warmer))))))
@zloychechen5150 yeah thats possible. though nowhere ive been that hasnt been necessary. but a spare is always good, or keeping the block heater on for a few hours. once an engine is warm there no longer is a problem with that. ;)
@TheSkivarpskate det är en 245 ditt jävla stjärnskott du är då fan inte påläst för 5 öre volvo 245 den första modellen såg ut sådär du tänkte "den ahr inte fyrkantiga lysen-amen då är de en 145a"
