For some reason the # of dislikes is assuring. It's like when there's an undiscovered treasure you want to keep secret. Fortunately people are too dumb to recognize the treasure even once it's shoved in front of their face. Ah the wonderful world
@brancabestia777 hi bro u have comment on a video of B B S before 1 year (not sound so the table! technique that uses this man is completely wrong!!!! TERRIBLE !) for ur information it is not tabla it is jodi ok u know it is the oldest instrument which Sikh Gurus using in Kirtan so dont comment without knowing
wah ji wah bhai sahib ...kuj v a tusi aur pinky pa ji huna ne kini purani viraasat nu saamb k rakheyaa a..sanu maan hai tuhade dowaan te ...kaya baat haii..
Vaise banarasi ji you cannot compare Khalifa Baldeep Singh with Pt Sukhwinder Bharaj alias Pinky for another reason. Whereas the former is an original musical mind (having produced many difficult taals & compositions), the latter has merely mastered (very ably without doubt) whatever has been fed to him by his teachers. Moreover Bhai Baldeep is an outstanding poet & a great scholar - something you can hardly say about Pinky ji. I'm sure Pinky ji himself will concede that BBS is a bigger genius!
Pan Bhai, if I read you correctly, you have said three things mainly: a) Pinky's material is better than BBS's b) P sounds better than B, and c) B sounds to you in some way incomplete. I can see that now you are beginning to argue your case point wise. But it needs elaboration or else what you remains subjective. My second point is why should BBS be compared to Pinky at all. Pinky is quite clearly into alankar oriented playing - much more decorative than spiritual. BBS is far more reposeful. No?
It has nothing 2 do with any sikh or muslim martyrs.. I mean Pinky bhai is sikh.. I think both his tabla aswell as jhori solo`s are far much richer then Baldeep bhai`s..
It`s about the material and the way it sounds from ur hands. i agree speed isn`t the mainthing.. But even without speed it`s incomplete.. Har cheez ka apna mazza hai janaab e ali
oh yaar listen, stop arguing with all these Baldeeps! lol, this satyasheelrawal, faqiranewatan are all baldeep himself or one of his brainwashed white students!
believe me these guys pop up everywhere someone says soemthing against HIS royal highness, bakwassiya baldeep ji.
woh antar kya hai, tanik hum bhi to sune BP! If u equate BBS with Mozart (whom u do not like) I'm happy. If the video isnt worth watching, u as a musician should be able to say why it is so. If u have entered the arena then u should be able to argue ur case - i.e. assuming that u have a case. U have mentioned 'speed' & 'power' as 2 attributes of good tabla playing. What about 'ras'? Zakir Husain is equally incredible when he plays soft and slow. Theres a difference bt a thinker & a mere showman!
Pinky ka Johri or Baldeep bhai ka jhori mey zameen asmaan ka fark hain..
And i said i respect the man because he is a musicion.. That doesn`t mean that i have to like his playing.. I don`t like Mozart`s music but he was very famous and conciderd as a master genious. U people have forced me to say these things by putting video`s wich i don`t find worthy watching..
Ji, no one forces us to say anything, it is always a choice, even when threatened with unthinkable consequences--the Sikh martyrs, any martyrs, knew this well. Regarding the music, the power is not in the ability to entertain you. This music is about a different kind of experience, a different kind of power.
Say what u say.. i have respect for Baldeep ji as an human being and as an artist but i don`t like his style or playing bas gal mukhi.
The compositions u play should be played with speed and power.. Theanhadnaad, tum bako nahi.. Pa ji menu wi patta si.. Sur tey technic tey nikhaas tey lehkari ki honda e..
on a positive note Veerji when you play "Punjab Ki Pehichaan, Khaas" could you tell me if that is an old composition By Mian Fakir Baksh Of Punjab cuz i think i heard the bols"Keta keta kut ta kiretike ta" a commonly used prase in old Punjab Pakhawaj baaj
These compositions are ancient heritage and not creations of Mian Qader Baksh. He also played these as did all other important exponents of pakhawaj.
Kapurthala- Amritsari baaj is the oldest of all remaining schools in India and the Baksh family's of Lahore is one of the later ones. From Lala Bhawani Das above it (Lahore) then joins back in to the K-A Baaj during Maharaja Ranjit Singh's era.
Although the Anad team did ask for clarifications but I have noticed that this query has not really been answered well.
I request you to kindly re-spell the bols. The Khas Pehchan is a paran which is remembered by most Punjabi players - Dha--du-ndhe-, ta-kit.tak.ta-dhe-, take-n.dhagetit. .......
It`s just that in my opinion the concert was not really special. The artist didn`t played something special.. Maybe it`s just the style Baldeep bhai play`s.. But i have respect for him as being an artist myself.
BanarsiPaan120, man you play banaras style of tabla...i dunno y talking shit about an art you don't know the first thing about...this is a diffrent instrement played in a diffrent Baaj.BBS veerji plays some rarley heard compositions of the Amritsar Jori Baaj, and one of Old Punjab Pakhawaj...instead of saying "this old man hasn`t learned much tabla" and then contredicting that statement when you were confronted, by saying "But i have respect for him as being an artist myself."
you should have asked about the instrement, about the baaj, about the artist, instead of being the ignorant Banarasi Bafoon that you are, and saying stupid shit..honestly man
Sir, some of us who were witness to him about 16-18 years ago when he played tabla, he used to rock. Even now, when we can catch him, he recites numerous gat-kaidas, which even evokes wonderment from some of the biggest tabla names in Delhi. After he got involved with Conservation activities he could only play one percussion instrument & he chose to dedicate whatever time he could afford to Jori as this needed to be revived. What ever was left of Jori, it had a lot of tabla type handling.
In the first part of this clip, there is some rare repertoire of the vilambit or tha laya called ched. It may sound very simple but if you look at it closely even its padant is very complex. This ched is the papa of what the tabla exponents play as peshkar.
No other pakhawaj school has this system than the Punjab Baajl. The Amritsari-Kapurthala Baaj has the most extensive repertoire of this ang, to my knowledge. Some of the finest dhrupadiyas in history could not go past this rendition. FYI...
We would really appreciate if you could take a moment and enlighten us more about this post. Sir, we can also remove this post if you think there is something grossly wrong and if this is not a worthy post.
To our knowledge, it is called a pudda (or daiyan) but of course in the hands of lefty greats such as Ustad Pinkyji, it will have to be called as baiyan!
BTW Sir, are you a tabla player yourself? or an enthusiast like us here at ANAD?
This old man is not playing a tabla, it is its papa, Jori. Yes, we at the ANAD have not really seen any videos or heard any solo recitals of BBS playing the tabla, so we can't really respond to your comment, whether he has or not learned much tabla. But as far as his Pakhawaj repertoire is concerned, we are told he may not have many peers.
i cant understand y people disliking

No No Sir i have nothing against the artist!
I don`t like to give people a bad name.
It`s just that in my opinion the concert was not really special. The artist didn`t played something special.. Maybe it`s just the style Baldeep bhai play`s.. But i have respect for him as being an artist myself.

Perhaps it may be the style as you say, sir.
Were you present at the concert? Is your training in tabla or pakhawaj?
One of our Foundation members was present and she mentioned that many great pakhawaj exponents were present there and really enjoyed his playing?
