  • GET OUT OF TOWN!!

  • I cryed It's so amazing! Zappa would be proud :)

  • Epic

  • AWSOME!!!!! WOW! BEAUTIFULL, THANK'S!!!

  • Cosmic playing dude ! Notes roaring like electricity, full of ideas solo and played with heart.

    Hat's off to you :)

I just wondered if you played all by ear or did you refer to your knowledge of scales and music theory to manage to improvise over such a piece ?

  • @Marseille5 Thanks!!!! I play off of my knowledge of scales and music theory, but I've listened to this stuff so much that I'm able to pick out little bits while I'm in the right keys. It's really just playing around with modes and odd timing patterns squeezed into even ones.

  • Very nice playing and tone. Great job!

  • Outstanding.

  • That was totally incredible! I'm really impressed. What kind of pickups are you using, they don't look stock. I'm especially interested in the bridge pickup. Thanks in advance!

  • @jsucilla1 Thanks! Pickups are all Seymour Duncan stacked humbuckers for Srats. I gutted the stock American Deluxe single coils and put in a Little '59 for the neck, Duckbucker for the middle, and Hot Rails for the bridge. I love them. I kept the s1 switching and added a coil tap switch to the neck tone knob- lots of crazy sounds with this setup. The one you hear in this video is bridge with s1 on.

  • @ThreeLeggedMongoose Thanks for the fast reply! You said that: "I kept the s1 switching and added a coil tap switch to the neck tone knob." I would really like to do this too. Could you point me at the URL that shows how to do this?

  • @jsucilla1 I had it done by a friend and then finalized in a local tech shop- took the easy pricier way. Fender's website will have wiring schematics for every model, just look closely at the specification page for the different guitars.

  • sweet, very sweet.I don't know why ,but this makes me happy.I love the tone and the timing

  • sweet,very sweet

  • Nice work!!

Question. Which effects did u use to make this sound?

  • @GYMEN

    Thanks! Compression & chorus

  • Very nice. You definitely have his tone and feel down... it sounds like Frank himself at times.

  • @pongopigmayiss Frank wished he could play like that! :-)

  • mixolydian?

  • @Django5198 yes mixolydian, plus whatever else works in a IV - V progression

  • Hello man, first of all I must tell you that this is awesome!

    and...

it's possible that you post the backing track, or tell us where you've find it? (or share it...).

please, lots of people would be glad! ;) thanks from barcelona

  • @BolotDuario thanks!

look on ultimate-guitar for the guitar pro file of shut up some more, then export that as midi!

  • That is pretty much fucking perfect.. Gold star for you matey.

  • Fuckin A !

  • Amazing, and i am also a hardcore fan!

  • Heee-eey, Shut up and play some more! Your guitar has so much melon in its easter hay that my black napkins wanna turn pink! This is INSANE! Congrats my friend! This is the BEST Zappaish style I've EVER heard! Take that from a hardcore fan! Keep the Zapp-alive!

  • Excellent phrasing and tone.

  • Beautiful. May I ask what audio interface you're using, as well as what scales?

  • beautiful version with lots of nuance!! keep it up!!

  • I close my eyes...Man, it's like Zappa. Congratulations.

  • Very nice

  • this just sounds so good

  • Tasty!

  • That was fucking sweet!

  • @FrankZappy fuck yeah!!!!

  • @ThreeLeggedMongoose hi there how would i get that zappa sound what effects? Is that a flanger or phase shifter?

  • Zappa o mestre , parabens !!! Brasil

  • sorry, what is a midi backing track?

    i have no idea.

    thanks from spain.

  • @karlitos1000 midi is the code or something that computers, synthesizers, keyboards, and gameboys (think pokemon or mario music) use to create music digitally. MIDI is an abbreviation for something, and I don't know what it is. I have files for this song that I found online which I then put in Apple's Garageband software to give them good sound quality.

  • are you playing over a real zappa tune?

    thanks

  • @karlitos1000 I'm playing over a midi backing track based on the solo section from Inca Roads

  • @ThreeLeggedMongoose

I much like the fact that you much like FZ

  • did you play over a real zappa tune?

    thanks

  • did you play over a real zappa tune?

  • are you playing over and original zappa's tune?

    great.

  • are you playing over and original zappa's tune?

    great.

  • HEY TLM you are more than good.keep it up.

  • dude you make that guitar cry

  • Very nice. It's good to hear improvisationalized guitar (even though this may be worked out note for note...don't know). Smoothely played, great tone, and just going. Thank you for shareing!

  • Your Awesom... This is the best version of this song... Frank would be proud... THANX

  • please post more videos of zappa inspired solos...unfortunately i do not understand music theory...however, this music makes me meditate. Thank you.

  • @84hobbes

it will be done! i have 1 other of sunrise redeemer and abunch of things called 'harmonosphere" which have the same vibe

  • I got a few questions.

Is it changing to a different mode of the Major scale. Or is it in D Ionian all the way through?

    What effects are you using

What kind of amp are you using, if not an amp then what software do you have because that sounds badass.

  • @codyjt5150

The chord progression is C / D alternating, a 4-5 in G major. I'm flailing throughout C lydian, D mixolydian, A dorian, and F# locrian. There is an emphasis on switching between the alternating C lydian / D mixolydian flurry and F#locrian / A dorian moans.

There is also the concentration on comprehending infinity between the notes, point a and b, where ever the music is, so squeeze notes between the notes.

This is the way I think of it a year later, maybe I should do it again.

  • @codyjt5150 Fender American Deluxe stratocaster with Seymour Duncan humbuckers with s1 switch on plugged into Boss Micro Br with the Zappa Nasal Snarl Dynaflange knob turned to 11, out to a Macbook Pro, further snarled in garageband EQ and compression, add in chorus. (that's in the video)

For loudness off the computer I plug into a bunch of boss effects and a morley wah, into a Fender Super 210 (lovely red knob)

1963 Airline Town and Country sounds good too.

  • 8,000??!?!?!?!

  • sing on brother ,play on drummer

  • Because of this, Cmaj7-D7 is my new favorite vamp. Kick-ass, man... \m/

  • ghey

  • Hey bro, I know the feel of this music and you certainly have it. Good stuff. I like your picking, I like your left hand patterns and I really enjoy your great note selection. Your tone is nice too.

  • the thing is, this vamp is so good, you really can't play anything bad over it, regardless of instrument or ability. Black/Pink Napkins is the same way; two chords, no bullshit.

  • @prinznevsky

    yep.

zappa liked to keep his vamps relatively simpler harmonically while switching between cross sectioned rhythms, hopefully i used the right words

  • Are you kidding? Please post more. Incredible interpretation. I'm a big fan of Franks and this is really good stuff, really good!!!

  • well shit that was awesome

  • very cool... loved it..

    more !

  • I don't really know if he's lip-syncing. I don't care. It's very impotent to me. This dude must be praketing richcraft. I don't know much. But I do know this. I know that I love you. Sure, plag nazz n zazz is all up the yaz, but it doesn't make any sense.

Where were I? Oh, and another thing, um, no, wait.

    Mainly it were so.

  • Man, u've got the tone I crave!!

  • 3 legged im gonna try this one last time before i break my laptop......great phrasing.......man i love the style but you know as well i do that frnank zappa plays nothing like what you are...thats your style shining through and i think you should start working on your natural talent and let zappa be an influence. my 2 cents as a pimp-ass media legend.....:P

  • i recently bought the three Play Yer Guitar box set with the intention of focusing in Zappa' s unique guitar playing and his guitar playing alone, but i failed ..and the reason is called Vinnie Colaiuta.

  • parabens

  • THXXxxxxsssshhh.... Perfect interpretation! And now let's go for inspiration! More distortion, little echo and less "breaks" in the fingertip to her yerk!

  • This is MUSIC,Zappa was a wizzard on strings

  • Beautiful tribute to the master FZ. This is top shelf guitar playing, you are a true musican, which is my highest compliment. Don't know how old you are,but those look like young hands to me, If you can stay away from drugs and alcohol ( which are a real and serious danger in the music world ), hang out with other fine musicians and keep a harmonious band together you could be a name in music. You should try, you are beautiful.

  • Alright, way to go ! You totally got the spirit !

    Cheers from Brazil =)

  • Very cool. Takes some huge cahones to cover FZ and post it on YouTube. And you did a great job.

  • Great - will check them out later today

  • It's all good - you rock - you should post some other stuff - I like the way you play and it is inspiring to all guitar players not only zappa fans.

  • awesome thanks, just uploaded a few recent ones if you want something more up to date. this video is over a year old

  • I am not trying to piss off the player, I am trying to respond to the idiot that said the player was not actually playing. Maybe I screwed up the manner by which I responded. Please reply.

  • dude this guy fucking sucks, whats wrong with you people. hes obviously not even playing the guitar, just pretending over recorded stuff.

  • Comment removed

  • hey dude - fuck off - here's a tip, before you act like your an expert on something like guitar playing (that he is actually doing by the way) pick up the instrument, spend a few dozen years playing and practicing and then post comments - I have been playing for 35 years and I wish I could play like this kid - your just a fucking idiot - that's your problem - 12 year old diil doh!

  • frank is watchin and listenin to that

  • You are not from this planet !!! ^_^

  • Amazing! You rock. Frank would be proud of you.

Any way to get the backing track?

  • Absolutely terrific! You are bad ass! Cheers from Hawaii.

but i think gay is were a head phone and he interped the solo, corct me if im rong.

watch the doo play the fz mr grin gens her on youtube

  • Absolutely excellent. You are Frank incarnate.

    Good work.

  • Just great--this is the stuff I like to play. But I don't know what scale I'm playing while I do it, and I don't know it well enough to play it this fast, and I'm just all around lacking in zappatude. Oh man, awesome playing!

  • I haf watch this video 723 times last week. I eat more pork & beans, any man ever seen.

I am convinced now not lefty at all.

Just another righty flipping the video to look like a lefty. Easy as pie.

  • Does it fucking matter? The man can still play...

  • @iwalkwithzombies

The right side of the brain is an ideal melon baller. I sprita it wif zee. 'Tis far from crap, sed Aunt Helga; now, jack up your trousers, make with the melon baller, and fetch me some kippers, post haste!

  • Ha! what a joke..what have lefties done..duh! some of the best guitarist ever played left handed..Hendrix to name one...this is cos the right side of the brain is the side that artistic phenomenom takes place, so,this dude can play whether you like it or not, I reckon he should form a band and cream loads of cash off idiots who dont reckognise music when they hear it and just ape their mates..er those non brainers, Mongoose if your for real, youll do ok, if you can play a piece like that.

  • your fingers are like spider legs.

  • @theleterminator

my legs are like finger paints. my pants are like chicken wings. my wings are like juicy bananas. space ships are really time machines. i think this guy can play, no matter how many hands has he. has he?

Did Jay Leno Kill Bill Hicks?

  • Don't listen to these kids talkin smack, keep it up.

  • worst guitar evar!! My dick could play better.

  • dudes, seriously, this is the gayest thing of all time.... like whats wrong with you. Plus, this guy is a lefty. What fucking lefty has ever done anything in music ever EVER. This tool should bleed out and die. Modern warfare 2 sux.

  • @iwalkwithzombies I agree

  • LOL, no hate from me man, you did him justice.:) Only better thing is the album.;) It's really too bad that there aren't more Zappa live around. Thanks for the share.:)

  • really good

  • Really, really great playing there. Sounds just like Zappa!

  • Lefty :D

  • great

  • the best album

  • you are great, bluesfeeling and all of that, thank you very very much

  • Very nice man and nice guitar sound too keep up the good work

  • can you play pink napkins or the deathless horsie, would love to hear your version.

  • got tracks for both but no time :,(

    but yes

  • one question, why would you get hate mail? i love songs about ufo's.

  • sounding sweet man!

  • got the message?

  • Great Stuff. Nice to see a fellow lefty giving Zappa a go. Anyone know where I can get the backing track?

  • thanks! unfortunately im not a fellow lefty, the video is flipped. sorry to destroy your reality...

i made the backing track on garage band with midi

  • If you'd like to share the midi file I have some presets I made in Guitar Rig 3 which closely match Zappa's tone on the 'Shut Up' Solos which I'm willing to share.

  • this is top drawer stuff, you have franks timing and phrazing to a tee. hats off to you buddy.

  • I'm a 'Zappa snob' and this is very good. Seems the drums etc. arrangement is from 'Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar some more' with the breaking up part near the middle.

  • thanks, you're right about the drum arrangement. i'm playing parts of each solo frank did with some improv in between though.

  • my hands grew a lot in 6 months...

  • That was incredible version!

  • Well you made me smile and after i got over that i had to go play some guitar myself.

One of my favourite lullabuys by far. I got the Frank Zappa Guitar book in about 1985 and just used to listen to the albums and watch the notes on the page. Been transferring it to 'Finale Guitar' but i think the backing track certainly helps and you have a good one there. I hope you feel elated after a work out like that.

    I'm still smiling.

  • oh yes, i do feel good during it. notice the guitar bopping all over the place when the shuffle beat starts?

and i must ask, can you actually play anything from that book? i downloaded a PDF from it, and when i saw a bracket under the notes with an 11 i just thought "fuck this"!

whats the finale guitar thing you're doing?

  • Excellent track, and amazing playing, I know how difficult and complex these solo's are to play :D complete with eyebrows....My request for your next endeavor....Ship Ahoy!

    5***** Thanks, Shaun

  • OMFG!!! That was unbelievable!!! You really have got a deep connection and feel not just for the track but for Frank's playing - awesome talent here - er, any chance you can play yer guitar some more? Gilmour and Zappa, huh?! Brill!

  • oh man....that was great....

  • better than Dweezil

  • Excellent stuff!

  • Zappa ist der Meister und was du hier spielst ist wirklich großartig. Und der Sound..uihhh :)

  • Somthing so deep here!!

  • i shut up and you play yer guitar,ok?

  • You don't mess around !!!!

    ☼☼☼☼☼

  • Damn good man. i would like to hear more from the shut up n play yer guitar album from you. Be cool to improvise the diff ones. This is good stuff man.

  • lydian and mixolydian? Wow I thought it was only in mixolydian. Thanks alot!

  • No man! You got that wrong! It's in spaghetti bolognese with some homous and taramasalata on the side - Italian-Greek!

  • Holy shit man....that is beautiful. You really got the tone and mood of an inca roads solo down. Absolutely fantastic! Is there any chance you'd be willing to give a tab for this or at least tell me what you're doing to get that tone?

  • the tone has heavy distortion with very strong mids, strong chorus with a low rate, 2 delays, compression and EQ (boosted highs and lows, and high midrange). im using a hot rails pickup at the bridge with S1 switching on an american deluxe strat.

as for a tab, pretty much listen to any inca roads solo and play along with it, thats what i did. C-D alternating, later A-D alternating. its in G, using various modes. zappa mostly used lydian and mixolydian, play diagonally

  • Hey amigo, thanks for your comment on my heavy duty judy vid. But this is extremely awsome. very very impressive

sound, inspiration and fluidity. At one point I was looking at the ceiling and just listening and I was sure I was listening to an unheard piece on shut up. Please brother keep that style and way of talking with your instrument. I will definately subscribe to tune in to your other stuff.

    Cheers

  • great tone (very zappastrattish) and also, tasty licks! keep it up , dude

  • its a crime this video only has 500 views

  • Great stuff! Well done!

  • wow! great playing! very rhythmical

  • also, I'd love to hear a rendition of "Soup 'n' Old Clothes", its my favorite song off the album :)

  • DAMN your sound is euphoric. What kind of effects are you using? I want to sound like Frank too!

  • Oh and also see if you can make this available in high quality

  • Type in Frank Zappa - Occam's Razor (One Shot Deal) in YT, it's a brilliant solo by Frank.

Your starting to sound eerily close to Frank, how did to come up with the drum/rythm pattern ?

  • Drums- somebody posted a MIDI file of the drums and bass to a guitar website

Quality- yeah i don't really know what's up with that.. the audio is fine but the video really degraded. I'm using the same tools as my other video and that quality is much better. I'll try to work it out

thanks so much for directing me to occam's razor, i'll be sure to upload my own version of that in time : )

  • could you link me the midi file maybe? I would be forever in your debt
