  • Yikes uhhh well not my fav. stop making sense version is the best of all!!!!

  • @kittensaresocute1 Just watched the Stop Making Sense version and I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with u. There was something weird going on with the vocals in it.

  • its where the ting ting came from..... maybe

  • só as mulheres que presta nessa banda!

  • TRIPPY!

  • I had forgotten what a stone cold fox Tina was. Shame on me.

  • fucking brilliant, what a happy-funky vibe!

tina always seemed to use a short-scale bass before - that jazz bass she play looks hoooge on her!

she still is well fit too (oops)

  • adorei essa versão

    me gusta mucho esta version

    love it

  • Is Tina the SEXIEST bass player of ALL time or what!!!!!!

  • @tomwild57 she's right up there, but sandy horne of the spoons still makes me have impure thoughts.

  • @tomwild57 Sorry, but Esperanza Spalding is the sexiest bass player of all time.

  • This bass-playing chick is awesom; she was also a member to the 70s punk rock band called The Talking Heads. Check out "Psycho Killer" from The Talking Heads.

  • Mariah Carey was in preschool when The Tom Tom Club released this song back in 1982!!!...It was a popular tune for the lowrider community!!!

  • Saudadessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • How come Tina Weymouth looks the exact same as she did in 1982, but Chris Frantz is old and fat?

  • @horsesei That's not nice.

  • @Spartacus217 It's not a bad thing, it's just true. I'm not picking on fat people (seeing as I'm not exactly the skinnest person alive :D)

  • @horsesei Actually it's the first thing I thought when I saw him.

  • @horsesei

Tina is a gem thats why

  • Mariah Carey wrote this song???????

  • @michaelarmenta :) No, she sampled Genius Of Love in Fantasy in 95!

  • @michaelarmenta hmm,i don't think so.

  • Mariah Carey wrote this song???????

  • reading the comments its seems maria carey covered it? did she? does she even sing? anyways who cares!!!!!!!!!!

this is such a good song..i love to play it to people who've never heard it..it makes me think of rolls of lino and guys break-dancing to a ghetto blaster!!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS MUSIC

  • Until I read these comments, I had no idea that Mariah Carey sampled this song. And really, who cares? If you love Mariah so much, why don't you comment on her video instead?

  • some baddddddd assssss white woman !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why are people talking about Mariah's version? She didn't cover it, she sampled the bassline. There's a difference.

  • @26tigerfella Exactly there's a big difference. We shouldn't even be talking about Mariah...

  • I like Mariah's version better!!! =P

  • @Da1uLyK Hey! Nice to see you here! Mariah's version is way better and i agree with you! Make sure you check my channel out and subscribe please!

    Thanx

  • It's been sampled many times, not just by Mariah Carey; artists as diverse as Grandmaster Flash, Mark Morrison, Busta Rhymes & Public Enemy to name just a few. Hard to keep a good tune down !!! Classic !!!

  • This IS the original version!!!! This younger generation are so misinformed.

  • Actually, P-Shi..I mean, P-Diddy jacked this tune. Mariah just sang over it. They just wanted to show how cool they thought they were by doing a new version of it. But as mentioned earlier, they failed miserably.

  • No pressure playing in front of a crowd like that, they're all off their heads! Great live version of this song.

  • The crowd was stoned.

  • the best music, now don`t make music thiss.....i love

  • this makes me tear because o howf times changed and how fast they did.awesome song!

  • If the camera spent 100% of its time on Tina, I wouldn't mind.

  • @Monkofmagnesia Chris digs it, too.

  • James Brown, James Brown!!! Sounds as good live as it does in studio. It always bugs me when people rag on this style of music. Creativity is Creativity. To each his or her own.

  • mariah carey is a wankey little cu**. she could touch TTH in this life or any other.

  • TINA WEYMOUTH rules.

  • sweet

  • Miriah? Let me laugh, ha,ha,ha. This song came out in the early 80s in not in the late 70s. I used to listen to it myself. Mirah had no idea about music back then. I wonder how old she was. Come on now.

  • @quiavinii Well she was born in 1970...so she was probably old enough to recall music if she liked it.

  • Their drummer ate a grenade and didn't explode

  • G A N G S T A

  • O que presta nessa banda é essa coxuda de minissaia e a loira que canta só!

  • EXELENTTTTTTTTT!

  • When this song first came out in the 80s, it literally blew my socks off, 'cause I'd never heard anything like it. Just goes to show not all of the Talking Heads' talent belonged to David Byrne.

  • 00dragonfly,i could'nt agree more!!!!!!

  • I dig when Chris Frantz's said the James Brown part. He added a little extra by saying the Godfather of Soul. He even gave a shout out to Maceo.

  • SEXY PERFORMANCE! FROM CHARLOTTE NC and MISS THE 80`S.

    GO TOM TOM CLUB!!

  • EVERYONE uses samples from time to time.

  • 'd like to attend bible class with the band

  • opps i mean she sings grate a is a very good bass player cool huh

  • shes signs grate and is a very good bass player.

  • If today's youth only knew their music history; much of "artists" such as mariah, diddy, etc continuously use music from other "True Artists" that wrote and performed many of these songs. Get an education losers! Mariah, Ditty, Biggie, wouldn't know the beginning of writing good music, Just taking the credit for it.

  • @abashal well played sir! there are no true "artists" in the mainstream these days. in fact, you don't even need to have...what's the word i'm looking for....oh right, TALENT thanks to Auto-Tune.

  • Ummb look. To the moron who thinks this song is by Mariah Carey needs a serious education. This the original new wave/disco jam from the original group.

Man it is so irritating that some of the younger generation do not do their homework before they start saying stupid things. Geez man!!!

  • @Government389 Can only give you one thumbs up :) This song came out in 1981. That no talent, over produced, had to marry the president of Sony to get any where, Mariah Carey was only about 11 or 12 years old.

  • FUCK MARIAH !! This is the real thing!

  • @freakfeu Can't do that. The diseases she carries would laugh at medical science.

  • its an adrian belew song to

  • @darioandthejicks would explain the guitar work. never knew that until viewing this.

  • Absolute classic, still rock any dance floor...love the effects on the guitar, amazin

  • Tina Weymouth is awesome. When the Heads played in Dallas in 1982, we hung out by the backstage door, and a very pregnant Tina along with Chris Frantz hung out and talked with us for some time. A very mousy and antsy David Byrne slinked in with a quick "hi." In the middle of the Heads shows, they'd break out and Tom Tom Club would perform this song. We were not worthy!

  • procurei esta versao francamente ja fazia anos meu deus e ninguem para me ajudar ouvi em todo mundo odeia o cris esta musica e legau pra porra

  • Love the song, and a great live performance. Love The Talking Heads too. Thanks for posting the live performance.

  • Stop Making Sense was one of the best concerts of all-time, partly because of these two.

  • Wow, they still look & sound great, I would go & see them fer sure!

  • Tina Weymouth is sucha fox..

  • @CiG801 she's totally a cougar!

  • NOTA 10

  • How the hell is the bassist married to the drummer haha. great song!

  • complimenti alla mamma, allora!... di tina e laura... ^_^

  • The girl singing with Tina is her sister Laura.

  • hot chicks

  • we had this in 1982

  • Original by Mariah Carey ? What are you talking about ? This IS the original version. That hack Mariah maybe attempted to copy it, but as usual she failed miserably.

  • @00dragonfly

she failed? wth! She had a #1 with it

  • @pabletep22 only because she was banging the head of her label at the time. he put in heavy rotation just so she'd blow him. get real kids

  • @00dragonfly Couldn't agree more...Mariah butchers classics constantly!

  • @00dragonfly I don't think it was a fail if it was the first #1 debut by any female artist on billboard ever! and it charted at #1 for weeks and was #1 in various countries!

  • @TheMickj23q Mariah is a living breathing EPIC FAIL

  • @00dragonfly no she didn't, the song she created is a classic made over another classic... and broke records, tedencies and was #1 for eight weeks... so... as i said before... she didn't failed it ;)

  • @Fsoaresl a sample is a sample is a sample no matter how you sugar coat it

  • @00dragonfly She didn't copy it, it's called SAMPLING. "Fantasy" was a bigger hit than this song ever was and became probably one of THE most important songs in the modern era, with it's invention of hip-pop. Show some goddamn respect for Mariah.

  • @6Horcruxes show some fucking taste

  • @6Horcruxes Actually, while you're right that Carey had a hit, this was a hugely popular song in its own right by Tom Tom Club. Tina Weymouth blazed many trails and deserves HUGE respect. This song remains one of the most-sampled in history. It's also on a very good album. This band was years ahead of its time and you should have some respect for TTC and Talking Heads.

  • @6Horcruxes she didn't copy it????? Are you fucked. Listen to the song you stupid fuck! I like Mariah...but come on call a spade a spade....she remade the song with the permission of the Tom Tom club and had to pay royalties stooge. Do some homework.

  • @miocynar I recognize that it's the same exact beat but saying that she COPIED it gives it a bad connotation, like she stole it or something. The correct terminology is to say she SAMPLED the song with their permission and everything.

  • @6Horcruxes i agree with u, makes sense

  • @6Horcruxes. maraiah carey has a pretty voice and she's cute.. but nothing more than a well marketed pop phenomenon . of course she had a big hit, it's not like the general public has good taste..

  • @PHAEDRIDER What's that supposed to mean? You make it sound like she's undeserving of her success when she literally has one of the best voices ever seen in the music industry. She was well marketed, sure, but that doesn't mean she isn't wildly talented. "Fantasy" is a relaxing pop jam to dance to, but if you're saying that her music lack reals meaning or substance then you clearly aren't familiar with the rest of her catalog.

  • @00dragonfly Fuck Mariah Carey Only Sampled The Beat Mad Made This Group A Heelllll Of Alot Of Maoney Than This Shitty Version Made

  • @00dragonfly Mariah carey sampled the song you idiot. Show Mariah some respect. At the end of the day, she did realize that the song was good and did even better with it in my opinion. It was one of the first songs to debut at number 1 in America and spent 6 weeks at number 1, so how exactly did she fail?????

  • @TheSamuelkStuff She failed because her version sucked!!! Who cares how many bone heads bought the shitty sampled cover...

  • @MikeDiamond69 Ha - shut up and get a life you retard!!!

    1) I wasn't even talking to you

    2) (So don't reply me)

    3) Stop making excuses, Mariah's version broke records

    4) I made a mistake - it actually spent 8 weeks at number 1

    5) sold 1,500,000 copies

    6) So 00dragonfly = ---------FAIL--------

    7) Bye

  • @TheSamuelkStuff So what your saying is a song is judged based on it's sales, but how does that make it a good song??? So using your logic Justin Beiber and Nickelback must be great artists to you only because they sell well... Tell us all about the great sales of Mariah's last two CD's... Talk about an artist in decline...

  • @MikeDiamond69 What about Mariah's last two cd's. The 2008 touch my body single reached number 1 in and so did the album, making Mariah's number 1's totaling (18) more than elvis presely! The last one (Memoirs of an imperfect angel) has had great reviews and has sold 2.5 million records to date (with the fact that only 1 major single was actually released (obsessed) So what exactly is your point??????? NOTHING!

Mariah's fantasy and tom tom's G.O.L sound quite similar so just stop hatin!!!!

  • @TheSamuelkStuff

Thank you for reconfirming the fact that you think what makes an artist great is based on there sales...Music Box & Daydream both sold 10 million in the us

Glitter 2001: Ok, we won't go there

Charmbracelet 2002: 1 million + in the US

The Emancipation of Mimi 2005: 6 million in the US (Great comeback!!)

    E=MC2 2008: 1.3 million in the US ( what a drop,see the decline)

Memoirs of a Imperfect Angel 2009 half million + in the US (her worst selling release)

  • @MikeDiamond69 What are you talking about...Hmmm, i know - RUBBISH!!!!!

You practically missed out two albums that she did (Butterfly and rainbow)

1)Butterfly and rainbow have both sold over 3 million in the us alone

    2) Glitter to date has actual sold over 2 million worldwide - idiot!

3)you got the sales figures of the others wrong ( Memoirs have sold over 1.3 million together with the fact that only 1 major single was released.)

    4) 2.5 million copies were shifted of E=MC2 actually!!!!!

  • @TheSamuelkStuff Glitter actually sold more than 5 million copies worldwide. lol

  • @Da1uLyK And is known as one of the worst films ever made.

Budget: 22 million, box offce take worldwide: 5.2 million. OUCH!

She made up for it in Precious though.

  • @MikeDiamond69 oh i was talking about the album. Film-wise, trussss me I've seen much worse films than glitter. And wouldn't it be the producer/director's fault the film did badly not Mariah's?

  • @Da1uLyK Everyone involved in that film is to blam, I've seen worse as well... but you can't tell me you liked Mariah's Razzie Award winning performance as worst actress of 2001. She was also nominated as worst actress of the decade in 2010 but Paris Hilton won (the right choise)

  • @MikeDiamond69 So why are you emphasizing on the fact that it failed you idiot. I wouldn't be surprised if your one of those people who contradict themselves all the time. Guess this time it's more of your rubbish! Get over it! Mariah wins the show baby!!!!!

    MC 4 Life ♥

  • @TheSamuelkStuff I've been working in the entertainment industry for more then 20 years and I was jamming with bands when you where still in your daddy's nut sack

  • @MikeDiamond69 Once again you keep missing the point (child) The song failed because it was a bad sample from a better song. (I bet you still don't get it) Seeing as you never reply to my posts shooting you down with your incorrect facts (only two songs sampled, LOL, more like 42) "Mariah wins the show" sure as long as she can sample better artists. Without sampling she's lost just like the dismal sales of her last two sub-par CD's

  • @TheSamuelkStuff Even with your incorrect numbers and research (Try the RIAA not wikipedia) Surely you can see the drop in sales yourself... From moving 5-10 million per album to half a million...

Carey is a great talent but she's needs a comeback from her disappointing last two CD's

That seems to only appeal to die hard fans, she's no longer cutting edge or creative just generic.

  • @MikeDiamond69 I find a person retarded when they say F**k MARIAH just because she realized a good song that she grew up with and wanted to sample it - Her voice was hot and it sold like mad. PERIOD.

  • @TheSamuelkStuff I never said "fuck Mariah" I'm acually a bit of a fan, she is a great singer... I come from a time when artists had to reply on being creative in ther own right, instead of sampling and ripping off better music because of a lack of creativity. Mariah is in a bit of a slump with her last two CD's and the sales show this to be true...

  • @MikeDiamond69 Your telling me she makes her money from sampling? 1990 - "Vision of love" 1990 - "Love Takes Time" 1991 - "Someday" 1991 - "I Don't Wanna Cry" 1991 - "Emotions" 1992 - "I'll Be There" (sampled) 1993 - "Hero" 1993 - "Dream Lover" 1995 - "Fantasy" (sampled) 1995 - "One Sweet Day" 1996 - "Always Be My Baby" 1997 - "Honey" 1998 - "My All" 1999 - "Heartbreaker" 1999 - "Thank God I Found You" 2005 - "We Belong Together" 2005 - "Don't Forget About Us" 2008 - "Touch My Body"
  • @TheSamuelkStuff Please show me where I said she makes her money from sampling... Mariahs success is not in qestion here and it never has been. Because you don't have a leg to stand on and your comebacks are less then steller... Now who's talking "rubbish" Once again you think sales make a great artist and this is the problem with todays kids...

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSamuelkStuff 42 sampled songs.... wow I had no idea she sampled so much... thats enough tracks to fill 3-4 CD's... I guess she does make a portion of her money from sampling. Google "songs sampled by Mariah Carey" you only have two listed.... LOL Wrong again, your disapointing.

  • @MikeDiamond69 So out of her 18 number 1's (not mentioning many smash hits) only 2 songs were sampled (i'll be there and Fantasy). The biggest out of those songs was One sweet day which was number 1 for 16 weeks (longest ever Guiness book of world records) and we belong together which was number 1 for 14 weeks????? Not what my daddy told me eh? Keep talking rubbish cause that's what haters do. If you were a true fan you would know all this would'nt you???

  • @TheSamuelkStuff Funny how you still will not address the fact her last two CD's sales are not at Mariah Carey sales standards... We are not talking about her old stuff but her last two CD's. And I never said I'm a true fan did I... I said I was a bit of a fan. More of your "rubbish"

  • @MikeDiamond69 Ha! Your hilarious! You practically contradict yourself after every sentence you say. You said (and i quote) "I come from a time when artists had to reply on being creative in their own right, instead of sampling and ripping off better music because of a lack of creativity." - Then after that you replied with - "Mariah's success is not in qestion here and it never has been." You obviously failed and bombed so just go home and look for someone else to argue with!

  • @TheSamuelkStuff I don't think you know the meaning of the word contradiction because my comments certainly are not... Our correspondence started when " 00dragonfly " posted a comment saying Mariah "failed" with her version, not financial... As an artist... with this one song in particular... Nobody mentioned other songs or sales of her previous work, you started that.

This should have been obvious to understand... And you still don't get it LOL

  • @MikeDiamond69 Have you any idea who i am? I'm not just some kid who looks at album sales to determine who is great and who is not. OMG by usher sold favorably but the song is rubbish!!! Most songs out there are horrible but most sell okay! I as a singer myself know what good music is and I'm telling yo that fantasy (sampled and Mariah's version) is a wonderful song!!!!!

    lol your hillarious!

  • @TheSamuelkStuff Your such a disappointment... Be prepared to hear that a lot in life

  • @MikeDiamond69 I cant believe you would stoop so low to say something as horrible as that. I don't think even in the most heated argument with someone i could ever say that. Seeming that you are apparently "so much older than me" i would expect you to be a bit more mature than that. All we were having was a little squabble over mariah and the tom tom club - not to launch such horrible remarks on me.

dont expect me to be so friendly with the next comment if you're gonna behave like that?

  • @MikeDiamond69 42 songs sampled by Mariah Carey, not 2... Google it... It's there

  • @TheSamuelkStuff Funny how the highest rated comments (above) agree Mariahs version (or rip off) is inferior. Many of today's artist rely to much on sampling the music of other artists... And that just sad to think of the lack of creativity...

PS Shouldn't you be listening to Nickelback now... Why not they sell tons and that what makes an artist great according to you.

  • @MikeDiamond69 Funny how the highest rated comment has only 4 people who agree!

You don't need to tell me where to get my sales figures from thank you - my source is way better than yours since my dad works with those kinds of things.

Anyways, I only mentioned sales figures because it backed up my argument significantly - Her voice is enough to win practically anything! having your first number 1 in 1990 and having her last in 2008 shows her appeal is still there even though she taking a break!

  • @TheSamuelkStuff More like 52 people agree... (click on "see all") The RIAA are the people who give certification for gold, platinum and multi platinum sales so they are correct regardless of what your daddy tells you... Look for yourself...

  • @TheMickj23q how is a SAMPLE better than the original when the SAMPLE is OF the original. twit.

  • @twistedviewlabs Um because she improved it! DUH!

  • @TheMickj23q The only way Mariah Carey could improve anything is if she slit her wrists and faded off into obscurity where she belongs.

  • the original is better tan mariahs you fucking bitch ass faggit

  • @TheMickj23q ...really? tell me. did you grow up near power lines by chance?

i mean, sure, you can add to a sample with certain effects and what have you...but unless you actually alter the sample to point of near non-recognition, it's not actually IMPROVING it. put it this way, the fact that you can tell it's this song she's sampling tells me that no actual alterations were made. twit.

  • THIS IS THE ORIGINAL VERSION!!!!

  • You stupid

  • @DrBukcake ...really? go to wikipedia and look up the song by title.

i want you to really read the date this song was recorded & released, then note when Mariah Carey's bastardization was release...

    Original: 1982

    Mariah Crappy's "Fantasy": 1995

    you: FAIL!

  • Tina is SUCH A BABE!!!! Spice Girls and their ilk make me feel physically unwell in comparison. Take a leaf out of Tina's book girls - and that includes you, talentless and thin-voiced Madonna.

  • El sonido esta desfasado pero ...no importa mucho si el video es un buen testimonio de esta super rola.

  • adrian belew was a co writer on this song.he wrote l'elephant from the same album

  • Adrian Belew wrote this? Never knew that.

  • THE FUNK IS COLOR BLIND, BABY!!!

  • YOU SAID IT RIGHT!!!!!!!!
