waves like to come over the transom of some houseboats. Once pumped out the eng compartments of a 60 footer, 2 volvos under water. Had them both running in 2 hours. the boat was at a dock with the stern facing the lake. bilge pumps drained all batteries, and couldnt keep up.
@SC00TERSanders There are numerous holes through the hull of any houseboat. Intake and bilge seacocks, depth sounder transducers, drive units, exhaust ports... every one leaks. Some more than others. It just got low enough to have the waves wash over the engine compartment.
I bet the marina owner is going to be pissed when he sees the damage to his dock. Notice all of that floating wood? I bet there is even more structural damage to the wood. I am going to take a guess the owner of that house boat does not have insurance and will leave the cleanup/salvage costs to the marina owner.
@uscgjake22 So you called me and my wife "retards" and expressed a desire to see us injured by the breaking dock lines for your entertainment? In very few words, you have shown the content of your character. Did you really go Coast Guard? Was the Air Force too dangerous or did you think you'd get to swim with Ashton Kutcher?
I used to work on TrowLock island on the Tames. One of the guys that lived there loved to tell people about his old houseboat going down at night and him finding himself floating down the Tames at 3am in his night shirt. House boats often don’t have bulk heads even to the engine room. If they have one. So they tend to sink fast like this one. Not fun seeing you home go down.
@endzonebiker411 the hull was under by the time I got the hacksaw out of the toolbox. Yep. They do blow up and they do get loose. And they all seem to be too old to have flotation built in them, so they sink right to the bottom. But it sure is an interesting lifestyle to live on the water.
what happend to it? this might be an obviouse question but did people get the peices and stuff out or is it still there? sorry it might be a dumb question that im supposed to know but i dont
@Sliderbleautwo No. The hull sank, the contents spilled, and the walls and roof all broke up into pieces and were scattered downriver. The fuel and oil bubbled up for a month after this. It basically became river litter.
@EightiesTV If you sink a houseboat at Lake Powell--or any boat for that matter--you have to pay to recover it...and since depths reach over 700 ft in the main channel...it can get pretty expensive.
must be from ohio..any normal idiot would have cut the ropes instead of it trying to take the dock down with it! and if it was a stardust boat then it came from my hometown monticello KY houseboat capitol of the world !!!
@AmplifiedAudio I activated 911 immediately (in case it DID take the dock with it) and simultaneously I went back into the houseboat to look for the hacksaw, found it in about 20 seconds, and by the time I got back out, all the lines had snapped on their own and there was nothing left to cut.
@5191keith this was a Stardust Cruiser. Nice steel hull houseboat. The owner was a real shithead and let this boat sink because he was too stupid to keep a battery charger on his bilge pump batteries. Good Samaritans (and interested buyers) would pump this boat out weekly but the asshole wouldn't budge from his unrealistic price.
@magnic12 oh no!!!! that sound you just hear.... the boat was crying and calling for help... i guess only people who has a boat thereself can hear that :(
@samdog600 Because the owner neglected to maintain the bilge pumps and it eventually sat low enough for the waves to wash over the transom on this particularly breezy day with 1-2 foot waves. Unless you have hermetically sealed hulls as in a pontoon boat, you must pump the water out. Every boat leaks. Even a brand new one. Older ones just leak a little faster.
that sucks
