  • i like the scott walker version better.

  • OK, what version is this version from? Jesus Christ, does someone have the MP3 of this version?

  • Listen to Scot Walker's vesion of this great song . I find it rly interresting too ! Maybe a bit more passionate ;')

  • Nice IM beep in the beginning! :P

  • not heard this in years still as good now a classic track

  • recorded at santa monica in 72

  • i wish i could like the song description ...

  • Makes me want a cigarette and a quiet place to comtemplate this song<3

  • DB actually has 2 different color eyes, epic!

  • @Goingbeach

David bowies eyes are the same colour but one pupil is permantly dilated. due to an accident as a child

  • @dfg297lpopdirk yeah you're right it was while fighting when he was 15

  •  mate, we all know who wrote it ..Zzzz. Yr not some kinda sage. Bowie covered several Jacques Brel songs over the years

  • This song was written by the great jacques brel... fyi

  • It would be nice to hear Bowie do a cover of a Peter Hammill song, he is one of the few singers who could bring it off.

  • This is off the Santa Monica bootleg

  • i've missed one genie il m'a trompé c'était mon cousin gilles Barbier

  • This will be my funeral song.

  • this song could be released today, he was and is an artist, his music will never grow old. rock on ziggy you aladin sane

  • a bible truth? ha ha ha

  • Beautiful rendition of this song! His voice is haunting...fantastic pictures, too!

  • j'adore i love this to much so great

  • They actually played this song at Bowie's (pronounced Boo-aye) funeral.

  • @CrubbDaTubb Errr... what? Bowie's funeral?

  • @sally0sally Yes, in 1986, this was the song they played

  • @CrubbDaTubb I still don't get it. Bowie had a funeral, but he didn't die?

  • @CrubbDaTubb pronounced what??? haha. mad me chuckle. I believe the correct phonetic spelling may be more like Bo wee...although many call him Bough ee

  • where can I get this studio recording of the song?? which album/bside?

  • @gringolazlo

It was a b-side to something or other, but it's also available as an extra track on the CD version of Pin-Ups! Check out the Marc Almond version of this and other Brel songs too...

  • morbid song

  • may21 2011.....

  • @Lea71777 what about it?

  • @glamourennui I totally agree with your comments to @celeste4ish. I love Scott Walker with a passion but Bowie's live Ziggy version is probably the definitive English language version of this song imho. This version sounds uncommitted (actually insipid) in comparison. Everyone! - get off this page and listen to the live Ziggy version now! ;) Imagine being in that audience...

  • gewoonweg knap - een eeuwig recent onderwerp

  • excellent version but Scott Walker's version is undoubtedly better more powerful

  • what album is this from

  • the song my computer randomly picked to wakre me up today and without a doubt i can say bowie was better than sex.

  • @FoxGreyhound I don't believe yuo have ever had sex, maybe been buggered.

  • I am a die hard Bowie fan. Have been my whole life, but I have to say that I prefer Scott Walker's version of this. It's,hands down, the best version. Bowie actually is highly influenced by Scott Walker. That's what even got Bowie into any Jacques Brel in the first place.

After hearing Scott's version of this song,Bowie sounds too strained and the passion isn't there. You should all check out Scott Walker's version of My Death.

  • bowie's masterful interpretation of brel's gut-wrenchingly beautiful song. thank you for posting this :)

  • this is really quite amazing.

  • It's a great song and a great Man i love him and all his songs^^

  • bowie is alive and well - he's been hiding behind my couch with jesus. thank GOD i found him!

  • Actually I think Bowie's version is better that Brel's original. (no offence to Brel!)

  • Bulat Okudhava you should hear for that song.

  • David Bowie was one of the great artists of the Twentieth-Century!

  • Thank god we have David Bowie!!! This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard!!! :D

  • the first time i heard this song from the last ziggy show in 74,,i was hooked.

i play it al the time on my guitar,,one of my favs although its a jaques brel song. i think bowie did a great cover.

  • yes it is a great song; new to me, but I really like it!

Saludos.

  • David Bowie has one fake eye. His one eye was damaged in an accident when he was a kid. Rumours had it that Iggy Pop poked out his eye, but that's not true.

  • he doesn't have a "fake" eye, one of his pupils is just permamently paralized. he got hit in the eye at school. he can still see through it but his colour perception is disturbed and the injured eye sees everything in muddy brown.

  • It's not fake; it's just been changed with surgery.

  • this is a Jacques Brel song. Bowie is coveringit...

  • "I think he has the most beautiful blue eyes,"

    (in description)

    You mean eye :P

    (sorry had to)

  • Well, both his eyes are blue :P It's just that the pupil of his left eye is so dilated that the color is messed up. It'd be so cool if his eyes really were different colors though!

  • The big pupil eye has always looked brown to me.

  • Well, yeah, but not in "Life on Mars?" at least. They look blue there. They're both blue. I REALLY wish they were different colors, though. That'd be awesome xD

  • me 2

  • anyone knows where to find the my death

    's original version (JB's version)??

it's amazing youtube doesn't have it.

  • Bowie is a true genius at work with music and acting. i thank you for another David Bowie video i can add to my favorites. :DD Rated 5/5

  • "But whatever lies behind the door

there is nothing much to do...

angel or devil, I don't care

for in front of that door...

    there is you."

Ah, this guy breaks my heart.

With every line of every of his songs.

  • @alma1980sommerregen this is jacque brel's song.. xD

  • @alma1980sommerregen Jacque brel's a good song writer ;)

  • @alma1980sommerregen but he didn't write it, jacques brel did

  • @alma1980sommerregen

I love these lines aswell, and ofcourse DB, but these lines were written by Jacques Brell. Since it's his song

  • @alma1980sommerregen Jacques Brel wrote this song

  • @alma1980sommerregen

    Beautiful and haunting and GENIUS.

  • gorgeous - like eveything he does.

  • David Bowie - the best!

  • Most stupid, greedy humans don't seem to realise that death is waiting for them, rich or poor the reaper is waiting for us all, make the most of it, and spare a thought for the animals... they're very important!!!

  • amazing, ever and ever!

  • just amazing

  • this is from his live at santa monica album right??

  • yeah it is.

  • Where have you taken all the pictures? I've rummaged through many internet sites, but a picture as good as the 1:48 one, I hardly found it! well done.

    Bowie: a genius.

  • AAAAHHH HAHAAHAHHAHAA

  • things mean different things to different people at different times. death is patient. may death be patient with me. this is not a quote from Ecclesiastees in the Holy Bible (forgive my misspelling)

    h

  • i agree.this one is just awesome.

but i like more the character of the Thin White Duke, because i just love station to station and the berlin trilogy

  • I like the Thin White Duke too, but I like Ziggy Stardust better. Since he was on coke at the Duke period, I can't help the feeling that I can't really trust what the Thin White Duke says, does or even feels. Like it wouldn't be Bowie himself but a mannequin or a robot...just a strange feeling I can't explain. The music was good though. (I want Ziggy back! :( )

  • is it true bowie has an album on youtube called the wittle man? ive heard it and i reckon its him, and its good really good.

  • The origanal song was done by Scott Walker, who's voice is soft and soothing. Pleasant to listen to. Scott Walker did a lot of songs that were dark and bone chilling.

  • the original song was by jacques brel and what a performer he was, his version is on utube

  • Oh, woops. Hehe... Thanks anyways... Scott Walker's version was the first and only other one I had heard of...

  • this song is just great,so hauntingly beautiful and with feeling.what ever bowie does he does great,i dont care if he didnt write it,who ever the origional artist was wouldnt beed any where near as good.

  • 3rd photo sort of looks like Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols

  • I LOVE this song!!

  • beautiful song never heard it before. i love u david bowie!

  • I want this song played at my funeral. Bowie is a Genius and was so far ahead of his time.

  • god he was beautiful...

  • Oh please!!!! STOP!!! Cringe

  • Lovely song- never heard b4- much appreciated~

  • A Beautiful Song , written by the Unforgettable Jacques Brel, sung by an exquisite Artiste.. forever ..David Bowie

  • awesome .. Bowie's Ziggy was like a new Messiah for music

  • Is he crying ?

  • Ziggy for ever in my heart !!!

  • I just wish that on rarest one they didn't have the part about getting the acoustic numbers done because David Bowie's voice was going.

  • Oh thank you so much for posting this,

this is such a beautiful song,

I adore David's voice and he really is so beautiful here.

This has given me another excuse to watch my Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust dvd again.

  • Great song by Brel curtesy of Bowie. Brel is'nt popularly known but he's one of the greatest most original songwriters in history, and I think it's fantastic that Bowie has given his work exposuer by covering it. Hats off to Bowie! "My death waits there between you'r thighs" ? hmmmmmmmmmm

  • The Song is from the "new" Album:David Bowie 'Live Santa Monica'72'

What a song? What a voice? Not from this planet!

  • The original is a song by french chansonnier Jacques Brel called "La Mort" which, I think, he wrote during the late fifties or early sixties. It's absolutely worthwhile checking out the original, which is quite different from Bowie's version but no less haunting. Brel, by the way, died exactly 30 years ago from lung cancer at the relatively young age of 49, which makes the lyrics even more meaningful.

  • who wrote this exquisite song? (the person who posted this video/song mentions that bowie didn't write the lyrics for the song...)

  • This version can be found with a vocal presentation in Rarest One Bowie.

I do not know where it originally comes from, though.

    Great song, btw :)

  • What album is it from?

  • I've never really actually looked at this songs lyrics. David Bowie is one artist whose songs (even if he didn't write it) actually mean something, but are aided as well by his ability to really tell a story.

  • The song sends a shiver down your spine. Brilliant.

  • BAMMMMM

  • Oh, this is so weird. I had a dream David Bowie died last night and his spirit came to me, to thank me for defending him after some girl in my school called him a fag, I got in huge trouble for calling her a cunt.

It's just weird that I came across this song today.

    I looooove you David. <3

  • His sexuality ain't a straight line from A to B that's for sure :P though somehow in going from A to B bowie touches on a shwa.

  • This is no doubt one of the best songs interpreted by him, no matter who wrote it.

  • one of my favorite bowie songs. so good.

  • Please stay alive David, I can't live without you!

  • I'm all for the hard rock and heavy metal but I think Bowie is awesome

  • Does anyone know who wrote the original version??

  • It's a song called "La mort" by belgian singer Jacques Brel

  • thanks!

  • jac brel

  • No, I don't.

  • Isn't originally a Bowie-song, but I don't denye that David's is the best version.

  • where can I buy the c.d?pleasw, tell me!!!

  • Bowies voice was phenomenal, he had an unbelievable ability to sing to perfection. This song outlines his amazing talent. The version on the ziggy final london concert with the backing of mike garson etc. is fantastic any sense of normality..

  • the kind to sing; is from Lou Reed (velvet underground) more speaking then singing ... :)

great Musican BOWIE songs + songs + songs +

  • Does anyone have any footage of the Spiders after Bowie and Ronno left. My pals Dave and Pete joined the band and recorded an album at Trident Studios with them but broke up soon after !

  • Awesome beyond belief. David Bowie is the legend that surpasses all reason.

  • anyone wanna send me an mp3 of this?

  • One of the best live moments ever in Bowie's carreer...astonishing.

  • Jaques Brel was an amazing songwriter.

But David Bowie sings this so passionately... it's absolutely unforgettable

  • i agree with you!

  • i want this studio song!!my death is one of my fav songs of bowie but i only listened it in the live versions.

  • This is the live santa monica version! easily available-top tune, love on ya!

  • i cannot find this song anywhere.

its not on limewire or iTunes

anyone know where i can get it?

    xxx

  • buy the album! - I dont think David Bowie would like you downloading his music...

  • i don't think david bowie would give a shit.

    he's already rich.

  • it's not about the money. Buying an album is like a symbol or something. it feels real good too, I assure you;).

  • yeah but this is a rarity.

i've never seen the album anywhere.

i think it's ok to download the hard to find shit. but i still buy all the albums.

  • can you help me finding this studio version as i only can find the various live ones thank you

  • ABSOLUMENT inouï

  • can someone tell me the meaning of Ziggy Stardust???

  • It comes from the Portuguese word 'Teggua' meaning 'pink hair' and an Arabic symbol 'sardoz' referring to the giant full moon. It translates literally to 'big pink hair and moon face'.

  • ok... u made that up

  • wow.

    i wish i was retarded.

  • verry great.

    absolutely smashing :]

  • thank you so much!!!
