Dawn of Sorrow was alright but the bad guys were lacking flare. I know they had evil intent but that was all. And then to end it all Soma walks away happily ever after. What I want is a bad guy who leaves his mark in the world. Like Dracula, he comes back every generation to take over the world. He is down but not out. Therefore he has resilience and attitude. And that is why SotN will be more unforgettable to me.

The only thing that I missed fron Dawn of Sorrow to Portrait of Ruin is that they did not bring over the Fire, Dark and Holy sound effect when an attack connects. I still remember when using the Claim Soalis in DoS the "Ping" sound will indicate a connected damage and the Electrical sound to indicate Lightning or Dark damage connecting. Non the less the Fire damage will indicate a burnt smoke sound after a fire hit connect. But still overall Portrait of Ruins is still loved.

Go for the first game, Dawn of Sorrow, or the latest game, Order of Ecclesia.

the art style and characters just way too silly for a castlevania game. Portrait of Ruin is more like Judgement, Dawn of Sorrow is like Symphony of the Night, and Ecclesia reminds me of Symphony with a mix of the NES classics.

Ecclesia is just the most solid with Dawn of Sorrow coming in a close close second

yes i agree that anime does not fit the castlevania genre. this game would be one of my top favorites if it was in its original Gothic art style.

I don't agree with you, ok, the art style of the intro and the character face are.. yea bad, but the graphic inside the game are awesome, the theme are cool too especially in those london-like city! and the music are nice. Dawn of Sorrow wasn't that good, Aria of Sorrow was much better! but anyway, all of those castlevania game are cool! exept Judgement

My first 2D Castlevania was Dawn of Sorrow, and I frickin love it! Hope this bears up to be as good, not so sure about getting rid of the soul system though, as that just rocked so much! Still, looks good! I think it's funny how they all look the same :P They have the same enemies and all that.

Yeah, I'm not sure which art design I like more... the anime does look quite cool, but perhaps that just suited Soma more?

It's a shame they seem to have totally forgotten what a Castlevania game should be like and keep remaking SoTN which while lots of people love it, isn't really what Castelvania is about. The reason why Symphony of the Night is so awesome is because it was done in the right way so that non-veterans could get into the series. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was also a first for the series to have a non-burly muscular homoerotic body builder. Konami used the same formula and modified it so we could have great games like Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow. If they DID remake SotN, then we would have dual weapons and a combo system.
