Steve's right. Ovechkin's out there having fun and 50 goals is pretty special these days. Even if the celebration was a little tacky. The NHL needs guys like Alex Ovechkin who aren't afraid to push the envelope.
Lol I would go get 10 bricks and through it through the other owners window. Rotfl.
Seriously, I beleve what Don Cherry said, that Ovechiken is takin it too far, and all he need to do is say "thanks" after the other players say good job.
I thought OV's celebration was great. I thought he was saying that the stick was magic & he was trying to levitate it off the ice.
Now I think goal celebrations should only be allowed for the home team. I mean it's supposed to be entertainment. it isnt a big deal, i love big celebrations, its makes it more exciting, i remember opening night for the Rangers and Zherdev scored a goal and basically ended up on his own side of the ice on his knee celebrating- its was great, !!!

the funny thing about don cherry is that he hates europeans..he talks alot about the detroit red wings and how there boreing to watch...well if there winnig this manny games gotta be doing something right.
The celebration i think wasnt that bad... theres alot more celebrations that have been way worse then feeling the heat from ur stick.. Ovechkin stayed within the limits of a celebration..and if i scored 50 goals in the show id probably go insane cause thats an achievment
I find it very ironic that Don Cherry accuses Ovechkin of being too flashy...I mean looks who's talking old goat, have you seen your suits!!?? Ovechkin is BY FAR the most electrifying player in the NHL, seeing him celebrate a goal doesn't bother me one bit
and i just saw coach's corner w.e don cherry said this time its actually quite true.... you shouldn't do that when you are winning 5-1 and what a horrible season tampa is having and plus its a rookie goalie.... imagine if you were the goalie or team... you would actually feel pretty embarrased
i think that's parting of getting schooled by a world class player like ovechkin...he makes you look silly (you feel embarassed naturally)
i really just hate the fact that fans from other teams are complaining about this...this doesn't put a bad label on the sport and i don't think causes many players to lose respect for alex...im a lifelong bruins fan, and i could care less about teh way someone celebrates a goal...it just doesn't matter...if you don't want it to happen, don't let him score.
If the store is laughing at you, you can punch him in the face. He doesn't care he doesn't know the name of coach's corner. And 5 players with 20 goals.
About Ovechkin's celebration: I can only speak for myself, but the emotion wasn't the problem in my opinion. The actual problem was that he did it in such a way that showed no respect at all for his opponents. He should definitely celebrate, and creativity is what the league needs like you said, but he should do it in such a way thats respectful towards the other team. How that would actually be, I don't know, but as a goalie, that kind of stuff is humiliating.
steve i just noticed you have a big nose no offence also i was wondering in your next vid can you try and pronouce jason blakes rare type of leukima/cancer
On Ovie: If you're good, or hit a milestone, go for it! There's nothing wrong as long as his isn't bad mouthing or doing in spite of other's loses and failures. Personally, hockey is that loud sports that requires fans to scream indoors, bang on glass, while piercing blow horns go off. It's not golf. I don't understand how people can sit in their seat during a break away or even when a goal is scored. Fans and players are meant to be lively.
It's a fast game that throws people around with sick shots and hits. How can you be calm? What Ovechkin did was fine, hockey is a large part of his life and he works hard. He's excited and helping his team get fired up while celebrating something he accomplished.
I'm not going to go on a rant of why I think Ovechkin is a great player AND classy; we know that already but I don't hear him trash talk or he go on about himself - WHICH - some players do. Plus, the boy's got a sense of humor. I like seeing that. Doesn't take everything too seriously. Why would there be something wrong with that?
The Ovechkin vs the opposition to his celebration situation is exactly like the Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmour plot. Where Ovie is Happy and Don Cherry(bless his soul) and everyone else on his side is Shooter McGavin.
If anyone can remember Shooter was deemed as a huge douche for being obnoxious about the sport and ignorant to Happy's original style of play.
i don't care if he celebrates... but it was a dumb celebration. you know its lame if he has to explain it to make you know what he was doing! he could have thought of something better
this is the first time i disagreed with you. ovy has no class right beside the goalie and its a disgrace to the game and i cant wait till don cherry rips him apart on "coaches room" as stated by ovy.
seriously, nobody cares what cherry has to say anymore.. because the fact is, he OV was canadian, he could eat a child and it would be okay with cherry.
Steve...in regards to Ovi...here here...I couldn't have put it any better myself.
I personally believe there needs to be a synergy between the classic style of play (or more "Canadian" way as Cherry puts it) and Ovechkin's style where he puts on a show. I'm a vintage style hockey fan myself...I mean, being a Leaf fan you can't help but being that...we always live in the past! Remember '67?!?!?! But things change and so does the game. What Ovechkin brings is plausable in my opinion.
I totally agree about ovie, I find him amazingly fun to watch because he seems like a big kid to me, just having fun with the game of hockey. It's great that hockey players tend to be more, I suppose mature, than most of the other professional athletes these days but theres still definitely a place for fun in the game, and if you don't let people celebrate achievements then where is the fun?
On a side note, there were a few jokes but I don't remember anyone being angry at marty for celebrating.
i'm sorry, i gotta disagree about ovechkin there. i can understand a bigger celebration for a 50 goal milestone, but that celebration went beyond just celebrating and it became more of a taunt. as a goalie myself, when i see players do that in my league i can only think "what a fuckin douchebag". im not saying don't get excited when you score a goal because i'm all for hitting the glass, jumping for joy, hugging your team, but just don't putting on an unecessary, and quite frankly lame, show.
I fully agree with you on Ovechkin, Steve. I'm glad he's actually excited to play and score. Maybe hockey should just adopt the standard golf fist-pump? No, we need more Ovechkin. He scores in game 7 overtime, he's doing a backflip through the glass.
first of all i'd like to say your the best and ovechkin's celebration was way to big that was cocky!!! the biggest celbration there is should be jason blake's one knee pump or something .. jumping into the boards is bad enough but pretending ur stick is on fire? that's just gay! ovechkiin is a great player but he does celebrate too much.. i say 2 leafs other than jason blake (who will get 28 goals) will get 20 goals or more.. Grabovski and Ponikarovsky or Pilon-a-rovsky. there's my oppinion.
haha yeah, celebrations r needed in hockey, like it gives ur team and fans a boost, and intimadets the other team, and its fun to watch =), ahh yeah w.e bout the leafs, maybe next year, u think ovie gonna get 60 goals this season? 9 games left so a goal per game, + 1 more
I was actually at the game last night for spring training for rowing in tampa. A couple things I noticed about Ovechkin. 1) The kid does not play defense. He hangs at the blue line the just dangels and never back checks. 2) Only a couple people noticed the celebration and no one really thought twice of it 3) My friend made a comment saying "Ovechkin is like the T.O of hockey," and my other friend said "Only difference is Ovechkin had the skills to back up his celebration."
I don't get too see Ovechkin do much of anything because I don't see Washinton games all that much.
All I can say is that he isn't getting attention for stupid insults in front of the press or clocking guys in the head; He's getting attention for how he celebrates after doing what any good forward is supposed to be doing in hockey: scoring. That's all right by me really. And it's entertaining.
He's good for Washington and good for hockey. Wish I could see him play more.
I understand celebrating 50 goals more enthusiastically than most players. That's probably the kinda guy he is. But every single goal? It's just bad sportsmanship.
If the store owner of the successful store jumped around and hollered down the street every time he had better sales than you, it would be incredibly ridiculous/rude/annoying.
I mean, people don't question sportsmanship when a player has many goals, they question sportsmanship when he acts like each of his goals is the game-winner.
Can that good store come by and rub it in your face every time he scores with out you wanting to kick him in the teeth.. When he does it on the 3 or 4 goal it is stupid. i understand on a tieing goal or a winning goal... but come on.. it is almost every goal he runs around dancing on the ice... he does it even when he doesnt score... do you want it to turn into a football game every time some one scores?
He has every right to pretend his stick is 100 degrees, not like he didnt just score 45 goals or more in 4 straight seasons with only improvement left at the tender age of 24 ? fuck off trying to say thats ignorant or classless, let em have fun god forbid every player celebrates his 50th like they were paul maurice in a post game press conference...
Steve Dangle how comes that you you tell the truth about Hans fans feelings. We (Habs fans) will rub your blue ears until it glows in the dark when you close your room lights. Everybody will see it in the next vid and Hackey Burg will ask why your ears are glowing Haha Ok , we probably won't make the playoffs for the next 3 years and the Leafs may be better than the Habs but if you make fun of Habs fans next vid again we will come to your house, get Hacky Burg's hat and ask a ransom for it.
Just to illustrate it further, his celebrations are becoming like touchdown dances in the NFL. He's hot dogging! After every single goal he scores, from the celebration, you'd think he'd just scored the winning goal in overtime in the 7th game of the Stanley Cup final!
Haha, retarded Canadian term? Well, bud, the sport you're watching is Canadian. Like you said about Ovi, some use this term some don't, so I guess we'll just agree to disagree. But seriously, you're arguing with the use of a term? Calling a word retarded?
i can live with that "agree to disagree" i'm not arguing for using the term "hot dog" its just an odd term to me "i'm a russian that lives in US" and i have never heard or seen an american use a term hot dog to put someone down. Idiot,Goof,Tool, etc ok but HotDog just seems like a very odd term to use.
1st question: That would be tragic for habs fans, but hilarious for everyone else. Gainey should never have fired Carbonneau.
As for Ovechkin, he is a great player, I agree, but he showboats after every goal. Nothing wrong with showing emotion, but it starts to get ridiculous. After I come home from my job, I don't jump around, do a dance and scream and holler. And that's what he's doing. It's his job to score goals.
I understand where you're coming from but, his job is actually FUN. He plays the sport he LOVES to death, and you can tell by watching this guy play... Scoring 50 goals isn't easy and any hockey player with common sense can tell you that, hell I'm sure you know it too. =/ Anyways my point is, he loves the game, why not celebrate in a crazy way, his well earned 50th goal, that he worked his ass for. If it weren't for him, where would the caps be in the standings now?
Hey, I know that scoring 50 goals is the furthest thing from easy. He is one of the most talented players to play hockey! But look at celebrations from Thornton, Iginla, dozens of other very talented players who score tons of goals. You can celebrate, but you should also be sportsmanlike.
So because you put your left leg in front of your right leg when you take your first step of the day and your friends i should do the same? why cant i put my right leg in front of my left leg when i get out of bed? Watch Iginlas interveiw on TSN he said he thought it was halarious and funny and nothing wrong with it. SO there one of the classiest saying why not! he scored 50!
Ok, let me clarify my position. Nothing wrong with celebrating. 50 goals is an amazing milestone to reach in a season, so he can celebrate, he's earned it. But when he celebrates like crazy after EVERY SINGLE GOAL he scores, it's getting stupid. Did you also see the interview with one of his teammates (I think it was Backstrom) where he said he was asked to participate in the celebration and he said no? There's a reason.
Thats him, his passion his personality if you dont like it oh well some like it some dont. Yes watched the interveiw, it was green that said that. Also Theodore is the one that came up with the celebration and said "you, backstroom and green" all should do it toghether, they agreed to it but when the time came they kinda chickened out. Not a huge deal really ovechkin mean no harm to anyone, theres alway going to be people that disagree.
I think that there should be more players like Ovechkin that shows a part of their personalities in interviews and celebrations. It helps gain more media attention towards the NHL outside of the hockey fanbase and enriches it as well.
As the NHL tries to compete with the NBA and NFL, an effort should be made to make their players as interesting as their other pro sports counterparts.
Ovechkin's goal celebrations are getting to the point that Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens' TD celebrations were at a couple years ago. I mean he's not pulling things out of the apron of the net to use as props, but I think he scores enough goals that he could calm it down a bit.
I don't have a problem with celebrations, but that one was just...stupid. It was exactly like Avery's pushup celebration.
Take out Ovechkin's knees? Nahhh..Hit him from behind or leave your feet to deck him...I'd say he'd deserve that. Your brick analogy doesn't really work with Ovechkin, and the number of cheap hits he's starting to pile up.
I would KILL to have Ovechkin on the Leafs someday. i cant wait to see this weekend's episode of Coach's corner. Grapes has some more ripping to do with quite a few of the events that happened this week. (If Nick Kypreos ripped him liek that cant wait to see what Grapes says) personally i think it was an awesome celebration for a milestone goal. my question 2 u would be; what didju think of that zednik highstick on Blake?? i mean, geez, i would have thought that was suspendable myself =/
i have absolutely no problem with the jumping into the glass and celebrating with teammates after a big goal (i love that, actually).. but, even though it was his 50th, i just think it was a little over the top.. probably because we dont see much of it in the NHL.. it hasnt changed my perception of OV though.. he's still my favourite active player in the nhl, i just think he needed to tone that down a little.
I didn't even get Ovie's celebration at first. To me it looked like he was trying to use the force and ick it up...but thats probably cause I watch too much star wars (damn spike TV!) I didn't mind the it even after I fugured out what it really was, he set a franchise record. Let him celebrate. People are just to sensivtive now days, if it keeps up we could end up like the freakin NFL where their not even allowed to celebrate when they get a TD.
And yeah, Luke got burned on that goal. Stajan shouldn't have blindly passed though. Luke is obviously very tired now, he's making a lot of fatigue-related mistakes, and Ron Wilson is cutting back his minutes. Luke played less than 15 minutes last night.
Ovechkin is one of my favourite players, and I have no problem with his glass-jumping celebrations. Last night's one was pushing it IMO, but come on, his 50th. Even Don Cherry said it was ok for people to celebrate "big" goals.
i am a big habs fan and the last few games where apoling. i know that we are droping in the standings but we are playing toronto on sat so that will be a easy win!!!!!!!!
good for Ovechkin, let him do what he wants to celebrate, he is like the only one in the NHL that is playing good!!!!!!!!
Under no consideration should Hagman return this season. He's already had two concussion and once you hit three concussions....it's very decremental to your health.
Thank you!!! unfortunately I cant give you great feedback because you basically stated my opinion word for word on the celebrations and particulary on the marketing of ovechkin. He is exactly what the game needs. It would be different if he ran his mouth all the time and said he was the greatest and all that but he doesnt. He just loves to score goals and he loves to win.
but he doesn't "dance around after every goal"... he gets excited and usual jumps in to the boards and celebrates with his team. this was a big milestone and he celebrated accordingly i think. He's bringing entertainment to the game. Celebrations after big goals, and funny costumes during the all star game. I have no problem as long as it's good natured, and it looks to me like it is.
But everyone knows how good he is he doesnt need to do stuff like that, im all for it when a player punches the glass to the fans after scoring, but when people score the a goal to win the cup they dont do that, that was a jerk move, by a good player.
Ohh i loved the celebration I mean every time he does that i just start going "Whoooo". The guy is awesome, leave him alone :P, i mean look at him play noone in the league right now makes the goals sick as that.
Best way to stop Ovechkin from celebrating is to stop him from scoring, but once you do that he cries like a baby. Seriously, did anyone see when Lehtonen stopped him, he started crying and wouldn't talk to reporters after. He's a joke, I don't care how good he is, he's a baby.
I think his celebrations are great. Him and his teammates are allowed to have fun and show character, so I don't know why it's such a big deal. They are especially allowed when they sit second in the East! They are just a young, skilled team and just enjoying it. It wasn't "disrespectful" to Tampa or anything... haha and of course I loved the post-game interview
I love the celebrations by Alex. The league needs more players willing to celebrate as he does as long as they do not disrespect the credibility of the opposing goaltender or other team. Alex's celebrations are innocent and similar to the NFL.
At least he's not pulling a Gutusso from Milan who stripped into his underwear a couple years ago for scoring a regular season goal lol
Let Ovechkin do whatever he wants. Great for hockey I think, as long as he doesn't put any other player down or make a fool out of someone. He can throw his stick in the air, or play air guitar with his stick, throw his gloves in the air and pretend to shoot them with his stick for all I care. It's all fun to watch and I think anybody who thinks that he has no class or he shows off too much, they're just jealous that they can't score 50 goals consistently season to season. GO OVIE!!!
I love Ovechkin and I've had zero problems with his celebrations thus far. The only issue I had with this one though was that it was almost like he was taunting the other team with that sort of thing. Cause it was hardly a celebration of excitement but rather a planned show off. Plus his teammates looked embarrassed to approach him while he was doing it so even if they did plan it with him I don't think they really liked it once it was happening. They were hardly excited by the end of it.
so whats ur point leafs are doing better then those garbage sens and they have 3 "superstars" and they still cant do shit...the leafs are gonna get better each yeah now that burke and wilson are in town...sens are just awful and so are those jerseys
lol leafs got nobody, sens have a better roster and half more draft picks this year, there gonna rape next season and now there doing better under the new coach and have one 7 of there last 8
sens are garbage wait till july 1st when the leafs with their millions and millions of free cap space sign who knows bowmiester the sedins maybe well wait till '10 and get nash to hahha spezza's a pussy alfredson gets booed in his own arena when we come to town and he looks like an idiot when he winds up for a slapshot and heatly is a fuckin douchbag
plzzzz he fuckin slices the puck like a kid does in novice leafs dont have any star players and were still ahead in the standings then the sens and its funny how u didnt say anything about how loud everyone boo's him whenver leafs play in ottawa haha u fail
who gives a shit if there ahead, we have 2 games in hand. the sens sucked because they had a crappy coach in the beggining, ever since we hired clousten were doing better, I dont think that you should be talkin smack cuz we have more draft picks a better roster so next sens will raape
Oh yeah. I also think Ovechkin is amazing for bringing his personality with him to the games. He's incredible to watch...not just for his hockey skills but for his amazing reactions.
I don't care what Ovechkin does, like hes happy. If you got your 50th goal in an NHL season, what would you do????????// Would you be just like "Oh yay" and not celebrate????? Nice Ovi voice you used Steve lol:)
If this celebration helps to get a few viewers from struggling franchises to tune in, why not. This celebration is great for the game and personally i just think it shows his personality, like you mentioned not enough players do that.
And just a side note, who cares what Don Cherry says, hes a blithering idiot i.e when the leafs won against the pens 7-3 he said it was a moral victory for the pens because Deveaux wouldn't fight Godard, wtf is that lol
i can;t agree with you more about Ovechkin, evry single argument you made for not being against his goal celebration were the same ones I came up with. how can you honestly knock the guy after watching that interview. he genuinely thought it was funny and Theo gave his the idea... OVIE YOU'RE A BEAST and Steve, keep it up!
I see you point, point I agree to disagree. Just the fact that Green, Backstrom, and Theodore encouraged it made me think anybody would be willing to do a move like that.
Umm name ONE hit where he left his feet... seriously, please try. Just because he hits HARD doesn't mean it's cheap. Milan Lucic hits hard - and no one talks about his hits being cheap...
He's the most rounded player in the league. He scores a ton of goals, hits, and plays both ends of the ice. And he shows emotion while doing it all. Don't like it? The answer is simple - stop him from scoring. And good luck with that.
so that makes a clean sweep for the Panthers over the Leafs......HAHAHAHAA. I was at the game last night (as I am at all Panthers games.) and it was awesome.
straight up keep the celebrations coming!! He should be able to do whatever he wants, pull the Happy Gilmore Horse or my personal favourite from soccer tranferred over instead of shining ur shoes, get two teammates to shine his stick lol..
teams should be more like the red wings, when they score, i always see them run at each other and a big group hugs commences. good way to boost the team.
other players celebrate like that as well, ovechkin stands out because he does it so often..well, he scores so often!!he's just outstanding..and a lot of fun
I also think that there should be much more goal celebrations in the league, Ovechkin makes the game fun and he isnt just a robot that gets points like everygame (crosby). I think that there should be much more goal celebrations and i think that Ovechkin is the new face of the nhl.
Completely agree with the Ovechkin 50th goal celebration, it was exciting.

First, how many videos do you begin with "DUDE"?

MissyLKS8 2 years ago
I'm not going to go on a rant of why I think Ovechkin is a great player AND classy; we know that already but I don't hear him trash talk or he go on about himself - WHICH - some players do. Plus, the boy's got a sense of humor. I like seeing that. Doesn't take everything too seriously. Why would there be something wrong with that?
MissyLKS8 2 years ago
The Ovechkin vs the opposition to his celebration situation is exactly like the Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmour plot. Where Ovie is Happy and Don Cherry(bless his soul) and everyone else on his side is Shooter McGavin.
If anyone can remember Shooter was deemed as a huge douche for being obnoxious about the sport and ignorant to Happy's original style of play.

DrunkSpleen 2 years ago
i'm sorry, i gotta disagree about ovechkin there. i can understand a bigger celebration for a 50 goal milestone, but that celebration went beyond just celebrating and it became more of a taunt. as a goalie myself, when i see players do that in my league i can only think "what a fuckin douchebag". im not saying don't get excited when you score a goal because i'm all for hitting the glass, jumping for joy, hugging your team, but just don't putting on an unecessary, and quite frankly lame, show.
tfw13 2 years ago
agree 100% on the ovechkin goal. i say if he scores 50 goals a year, let him have fun with it.
diehardduck91 2 years ago 2
I fully agree with you on Ovechkin, Steve. I'm glad he's actually excited to play and score. Maybe hockey should just adopt the standard golf fist-pump? No, we need more Ovechkin. He scores in game 7 overtime, he's doing a backflip through the glass.

troysmith111111111 2 years ago
first of all i'd like to say your the best and ovechkin's celebration was way to big that was cocky!!! the biggest celbration there is should be jason blake's one knee pump or something .. jumping into the boards is bad enough but pretending ur stick is on fire? that's just gay! ovechkiin is a great player but he does celebrate too much.. i say 2 leafs other than jason blake (who will get 28 goals) will get 20 goals or more.. Grabovski and Ponikarovsky or Pilon-a-rovsky. there's my oppinion.
cm1655 2 years ago
haha yeah, celebrations r needed in hockey, like it gives ur team and fans a boost, and intimadets the other team, and its fun to watch =), ahh yeah w.e bout the leafs, maybe next year, u think ovie gonna get 60 goals this season? 9 games left so a goal per game, + 1 more
pizzabox24 2 years ago

Wish I could see him play more.
daytekmultisync 2 years ago
I understand celebrating 50 goals more enthusiastically than most players. That's probably the kinda guy he is. But every single goal? It's just bad sportsmanship.
If the store owner of the successful store jumped around and hollered down the street every time he had better sales than you, it would be incredibly ridiculous/rude/annoying.
I mean, people don't question sportsmanship when a player has many goals, they question sportsmanship when he acts like each of his goals is the game-winner.

Just to illustrate it further, his celebrations are becoming like touchdown dances in the NFL. He's hot dogging! After every single goal he scores, from the celebration, you'd think he'd just scored the winning goal in overtime in the 7th game of the Stanley Cup final!
Heffiewiggle 2 years ago
I dont even have to look up your profile to tell that youre a canadian, "hot doging" is a retarded canadian term.
madboost35 2 years ago
Haha, retarded Canadian term? Well, bud, the sport you're watching is Canadian. Like you said about Ovi, some use this term some don't, so I guess we'll just agree to disagree. But seriously, you're arguing with the use of a term? Calling a word retarded?
Heffiewiggle 2 years ago
i can live with that "agree to disagree" i'm not arguing for using the term "hot dog" its just an odd term to me "i'm a russian that lives in US" and i have never heard or seen an american use a term hot dog to put someone down. Idiot,Goof,Tool, etc ok but HotDog just seems like a very odd term to use.
madboost35 2 years ago
1st question: That would be tragic for habs fans, but hilarious for everyone else. Gainey should never have fired Carbonneau.
As for Ovechkin, he is a great player, I agree, but he showboats after every goal. Nothing wrong with showing emotion, but it starts to get ridiculous. After I come home from my job, I don't jump around, do a dance and scream and holler. And that's what he's doing. It's his job to score goals.
Heffiewiggle 2 years ago
I understand where you're coming from but, his job is actually FUN. He plays the sport he LOVES to death, and you can tell by watching this guy play... Scoring 50 goals isn't easy and any hockey player with common sense can tell you that, hell I'm sure you know it too. =/ Anyways my point is, he loves the game, why not celebrate in a crazy way, his well earned 50th goal, that he worked his ass for. If it weren't for him, where would the caps be in the standings now?
DJohnnyKing 2 years ago
Hey, I know that scoring 50 goals is the furthest thing from easy. He is one of the most talented players to play hockey! But look at celebrations from Thornton, Iginla, dozens of other very talented players who score tons of goals. You can celebrate, but you should also be sportsmanlike.
Heffiewiggle 2 years ago
So because you put your left leg in front of your right leg when you take your first step of the day and your friends i should do the same? why cant i put my right leg in front of my left leg when i get out of bed? Watch Iginlas interveiw on TSN he said he thought it was halarious and funny and nothing wrong with it. SO there one of the classiest saying why not! he scored 50!
madboost35 2 years ago
Ok, let me clarify my position. Nothing wrong with celebrating. 50 goals is an amazing milestone to reach in a season, so he can celebrate, he's earned it. But when he celebrates like crazy after EVERY SINGLE GOAL he scores, it's getting stupid. Did you also see the interview with one of his teammates (I think it was Backstrom) where he said he was asked to participate in the celebration and he said no? There's a reason.
Heffiewiggle 2 years ago

As the NHL tries to compete with the NBA and NFL, an effort should be made to make their players as interesting as their other pro sports counterparts.
hideouszombie 2 years ago
Wow I just burst out laughing when you started giving the impression of how you wouldn't want to see someone celebrate.
hotsauce4ever13 2 years ago

TempestKnuckles 2 years ago
i have absolutely no problem with the jumping into the glass and celebrating with teammates after a big goal (i love that, actually).. but, even though it was his 50th, i just think it was a little over the top.. probably because we dont see much of it in the NHL.. it hasnt changed my perception of OV though.. he's still my favourite active player in the nhl, i just think he needed to tone that down a little.
llehctimd 2 years ago
I didn't even get Ovie's celebration at first. To me it looked like he was trying to use the force and ick it up...but thats probably cause I watch too much star wars (damn spike TV!) I didn't mind the it even after I fugured out what it really was, he set a franchise record. Let him celebrate. People are just to sensivtive now days, if it keeps up we could end up like the freakin NFL where their not even allowed to celebrate when they get a TD.
Anyway, another good video. 5 stars:D

If he wanted to dance around after every goal, he should be playing soccer, it kills the opposing team when some one gloats like he did last night
BryanErnst 2 years ago
but he doesn't "dance around after every goal"... he gets excited and usual jumps in to the boards and celebrates with his team. this was a big milestone and he celebrated accordingly i think. He's bringing entertainment to the game. Celebrations after big goals, and funny costumes during the all star game. I have no problem as long as it's good natured, and it looks to me like it is.
gumperific 2 years ago
But everyone knows how good he is he doesnt need to do stuff like that, im all for it when a player punches the glass to the fans after scoring, but when people score the a goal to win the cup they dont do that, that was a jerk move, by a good player.

It wasn't "disrespectful" to Tampa or anything... haha and of course I loved the post-game interview
carolinekava 2 years ago
I love the celebrations by Alex. The league needs more players willing to celebrate as he does as long as they do not disrespect the credibility of the opposing goaltender or other team. Alex's celebrations are innocent and similar to the NFL.
At least he's not pulling a Gutusso from Milan who stripped into his underwear a couple years ago for scoring a regular season goal lol
bobblehead1706 2 years ago
I didn't realize what he was doing at first, but once I figured it out I thought it was hilarious. Why are people so against fun?

Ovechkin's goal celebrations have been so low key all season. Its good to see him have some emotion on the ice.
laurier19 2 years ago
Let Ovechkin do whatever he wants. Great for hockey I think, as long as he doesn't put any other player down or make a fool out of someone. He can throw his stick in the air, or play air guitar with his stick, throw his gloves in the air and pretend to shoot them with his stick for all I care. It's all fun to watch and I think anybody who thinks that he has no class or he shows off too much, they're just jealous that they can't score 50 goals consistently season to season. GO OVIE!!!
LanceK17 2 years ago
I love Ovechkin and I've had zero problems with his celebrations thus far. The only issue I had with this one though was that it was almost like he was taunting the other team with that sort of thing. Cause it was hardly a celebration of excitement but rather a planned show off. Plus his teammates looked embarrassed to approach him while he was doing it so even if they did plan it with him I don't think they really liked it once it was happening. They were hardly excited by the end of it.

Capsfan387 2 years ago
There's a difference between showing emotion and what Ovechkin does. Sorry, Steve this is one place where I just don't like the guy.
I love scoring goals. But I also don't jump into the boards, slide on my stomach. Call me old-fashioned, I don't care. I just don't like it.
Oh, and Ovechkin gets away with hits when he's left his feet.
troysmith111111111 2 years ago
I see you point, point I agree to disagree. Just the fact that Green, Backstrom, and Theodore encouraged it made me think anybody would be willing to do a move like that.
SteveDangle 2 years ago
Umm name ONE hit where he left his feet... seriously, please try. Just because he hits HARD doesn't mean it's cheap. Milan Lucic hits hard - and no one talks about his hits being cheap...
He's the most rounded player in the league. He scores a ton of goals, hits, and plays both ends of the ice. And he shows emotion while doing it all. Don't like it? The answer is simple - stop him from scoring. And good luck with that.
