  • Hello Peggy, would you mind telling me what the opening phrase to these videos is? It seems like you're saying hello, but you don't appear to be saying "ni hao".

  • @ThePoisonBiscuit

  • @BboyBlasian what does DTF stand for?

  • Man.. Mao Tse Dong sucks ass just because he can't learn Cantonese he had to force everyone to speak Mandarin with him... I remembered many decades ago... Everyone spoke Cantonese, even in main-land China... I miss the superior tonal range that is no longer prevalent today.

  • 上古漢語

  • Hi Peggy - I have a couple of questions:

    1. What Mandarin online news channel would you recommend for beginners to listen to.

    2. Do you have plans to start Mandarin writing script videos as well?

  • Hey peggy my 5 year old, her name is Savanna she goes to Atlanta South Side church she is in kindergarden. Her father's side of the family that is the asian part of the family will be soo excited when she starts to speak mandarin soon. I find the language fun and a great asset when she gets older,

  • @nikki10T That's so sweet. Your a good mommy. :)

  • @Finallyification Isn't she! :) So what was the first word Savanna spoke in Mandarin?

  • Hi peggy, I have a 5 year old that is jamaican, chinese, indian but does not know the chinese language and would like to learn. We started today watching you teach and writing down all the information and she loves it. we will be waiting for more how to learn chinese videos soon. Thanks for your help!

  • @nikki10T That's awesome! There are over 80 videos on my YouTube channel; I hope my lessons will help her learn Mandarin. Where does she go to school? :-)

  • Hi peggy :) I've finally started taking official evening classes in Mandarin. Your video matches part of my first lesson, and seeing how your mouth moves when saying the numbers helps with pronunciation! Thanks ;)

  • yoshi = 90

  • I rather learn mandarin it easier and ur poses r vain no offence

I'm not Chinese but I don't even know how My mom knows the numbers maybe it ancient number in cantonese but we r Vietnamese my mom is not Chinese neither my dad but she teach me the number but we say it differently maybe us viet's ancient is chinese

  • Xie Xie Peggy! You are sweet!!!

  • 谢谢Peggy

  • Thank you Peggy. I am planning to move to Tainan. Do you have a southern or northern Mandarin accent? Will your lessons prepare me to speak Mandarin so that Taiwanese can clearly understand me?

  • @dbielby I'd say I am more of the northern accent as that's where I grow up. Really? When are you moving to Taiwan? :)

  • @dbielby I hope to move there later this year.

  • @dbielby Well, dont panic. We dont really have so-called northern and southern accents in Taiwan as you know it is a small island. All Taiwanese people speak basically in the same way. Good luck!

  • lol

i can make it only to 6

  • I'm so proud of myself ; after this vid I can count up to 10 by Mandarin and even I can use handsigns! :D Thanks, Peggy!

  • I will be watching them over and over and over. Maybe yi bai times.

  • Thank you for watching! Jia You!

  • Maybe you should also tell the learners about 2. There are two different 2's. When you write and when you say the twos are different.

  • I was wondering..which tone is the 0? Is it the 4th tone?

I like ur videos! Ur helping me learn Chinese. Keep up the great work!;)

  • It's the 2nd tone. :)

    Xie Xie!

  • I can count in english, german, spanish, and japanese... but that's ... gonna take some practice.

  • Jia You! (Keep it up!)

    :)

  • week later... nope.. still don't get it. lol!

I have a chinese room mate now... he told me to just stop trying. :(

And some poor lady on the street thought I was mugging her. I almost got maced.

  • So... How would you say "I was just trying to be friendly. Please put the mace away" in Chinese?

And if that fails How would you say "OH ****! MY EYES!"

  • LMAO! :D

Why would you count in Chinese to a poor lady on the street though???

    We'd rather say:

    "wo3 bu2 shi4 huai4 ren2." - I'm not an evil man.

(But when you say that here, people rarely believe you. Taiwanese people are pretty insecure.)

And if it fails, you go:

    "Ahhh....wo3 de5 yan3 jing1 !!!!" - OHHH...MY EYES!

  • No, no, I wasn't counting to her... I was just crossing the street. She looked lonely, so I announced "YOU CAN BE MY STREET CROSSING BUDDY!" ... she reached for her mace and I stopped her by saying "Ya know, that works on bears, if you're ever camping and see a bear. I saw that on the discovery channel." ... Then we had a nice conversation.

  • Hahaha! That sounds like a comic experience, or you are just so funny!?

  • The Pinyin for 六 and 九 should be "liu" and "jiu" but instead you put "lui" and "jui".

  • Thank you so much! I will try to be more careful. :)

  • I won't lie you are pretty cute

Thanks for the awesome videos! They help!

  • Xie4 Xie4 Ni3. :D

  • Thanks! My 7 year old son just asked how to count to ten in Chinese and I found it!

  • Great! I'm glad it helped! :D

  • can u speak cantonese

  • Nope. : )

  • ooh thanks.. good video

  • Thanks for watching!

  • How do you say 10?

  • 10 is pronounced as in "Shiˊ"

11-19 are all pronounced with "Shiˊ"

    for example: 11 - ShiˊYi, 12 - ShiˊErˋ

  • I plan to learn some basic Chinese over the internet, and your videos are very straightforward and helpful. Keep it up!

    -Mihai

  • First! Great Peggy
