Her voice seems like one that would be to sing some kind of folk song not too well-known. You either love it or hate it. In this case, I find myself loving it ^_^
@dmucci100 It's funny how emotions are always the same, from when you start singing, being a kid, to when you find yourself singing in front of an huge audience at the Royal Opera House.
Once you realize the lyrics, the song has so much emotion! It almost makes me cry, as do many of Bjorks songs. She is absolutely amazing. I dont think I have seen another artist who can capture emotion like this other than Dolly.
@7me Yup, that always makes me smile. And I also LOVE the grimace she sends to the harphist after the song - like if she wanted to shout out loud "Yeah, we rock!"
i dont have problems with people sayin they dont like bjork thats a matter of taste but people who says bjork has no talent and cant sing or something in this direction...should just die >.<
I have the DVD of this show and there are no words to describe how good it is, from beginning to end = PERFECT. Luv u Bjork, thanks for you sublime work :)
I HATE HATE HATE HATE that every single live recording of this is interrupted by applause. (you can picture me swearing in your head instead of in this comment)
Woah, I'm going to have to check out some of Zeena Parkins records now. I had never heard her stuff before. For a great female koto player, check out Miya Masaoka. She plays a harp made of lasers!
Yes, i agree, zena's harp is mesmerizing. It isn't often that a singer and artist of the calibre of Bjork is moved in her very own concert. Her voice is ethereal and magnetic...she truly IS on the stage....very alive and mesmerized herself....
Uh no, she has stated in interviews the song is about an unhealthy relationship where the man abuses the woman. A 'generous palmstroke' is a slap to the face.
It could be about God (even though she isn't big on religion). It's about giving yourself over to someone totally and trusting them. Hell, it could be about dominance and submission. I just don't think domestic abuse is the only meaning one could arrive at.
The best concert I have ever attended in my life. As close to the meaning of musical artistic perfection as one could hop to experience. She had the audience spell bound.
that climax and break is really powerful. i agree with an earlier comment though, i wish somehow the audience could have held off their applause; i think the effect would have been incredible. this is definitely one of my favorite bjork songs.
Yes, but maybe they can't held back for her voice and the ability of Zeena in that moment. I don't blame the public, although if they remained silent...
Im like: this is the greates song ever....then I hear unison and thats the greatest ever, then hyperballad.....aaaarrrggggghhhhh they are all the greates. I cant belive it. She's amazing!
Björk's the best! And Zeena Parkins! I love how she played all those glissandi without flinching from the pain. I know how it is. I've played harp for a long long while now but sometimes it still can hurt slightly on your fingertips. Anyway, loved everything about it! Generous Palmstroke rocks! Thanks!
Well, if you want to pay about $60 for the Family Tree album, which I did, it's on there, or your could by Verspertine Live--it's on there too. I downloaded Verspertine Live, and it's amazing.
Oh yes, I agree. I HATE IT when those idiots start applauding after Zeena freaks out on the harp and Björk does her ad lib. It totally doesn't allow the proper release of tension, and if this song were recorded when people didn't applaud in the middle, I would GREATLY enjoy it.
yeah but you gotta admit, i heard it was a standing ovation at that point, thats an amazing achievment... meh wateva she's absolutely imperfectly perfect
If I could travel through time I would go to this concert

A lot of sound, especially bass when harpist player doing hardy handshake with his instrument !!

This is more, more powerful than anyother rock song! The way Zeena Barkins plays the harp...
At 3:34 lacks a part of performance...
At 4:06, she has an extraordinary expression, so tender, really nordic like a husky or malamute <3

All that I gave them, I gave to you!
