LOVE the bass 2:10 i just picked up a dx100 is that a preset sound? or did you make it? do you have any patch material you sell? I'm looking to fill my dx with great bass sounds :)
@djugel I'll compare it to the DS-8 as FM made easy :-) Think they both used the same Yamaha FM chip but don't quote on me that. Both great synths and I almost brought a DS-8 few times. Personally I'd rather have a DX-7 mk1 and DX-100
@mirroreye63 A real piano creates a very complex sound. Yes the DX100 has a piano sound that is pretty lo-fi. A later FM synth would be more convincing.
I managed to program a piano sound I liked, using the piano patch as a starting point. Mind you, I prefer crap/unrealistic emulations of real instruments... so it isn't exactly impressive, just full of character!
Very good demo. The DX100 was also my first synth. I own two now, I love them!
I far prefer the sound over my DX7... the feedback on the 100 is greater than the 7; coupled with the grit of the less capable processing, it makes a hell of a lot nicer sound!
It contains the same synthesis chip as the Sega Megadrive (Genesis in the US) so the tone is pure nostalgia even on crap patches!
wow the beat kickin in at 2:10, thats the kind of shit im planning to produce... really wanna learn stuff like that... dont know where to start though ... thanks for your vids!
The Dx100 has only dry sounds. You can modify them however you like but don't forget, this is a mid 80s synth, way before trance came about. you should clarify what you used along with the dx100 as some of these examples are a tad misleading.
@vegunited06 Don't think it has mate, but it don't even transmit velocity data. What about a Bass Station keyboard...although it only has 2 octives it transmits velocity and shiz
Very nice demo! You added a lot of external delay and reverb (from Logic?) to make the DX100 sound as good as possible. I like the part starting at 2:22. Greetings from a user of the YS-100.
Man! After I heard this video I've got a tx802 from my father. I spend month searching this video back to get close to the amazing sound you do at 1:13.
Please I need your help! I tought you removed this but finally I've got ya again!!!
yep! so yeah, finally got my hands on one vinylJ! and it's freakin awesome! i actaully went for the dx100 over the TXwhatever it is, just because you recomended it had a better solidbass than the latley bass on the TXwhatever heehe
Nice work. Shows something of what can be done with these synths. Most people never manage to get to grips with them. It's good to hear someone who has.
I want them all lol every DX has something different to offer wether it be sound or features lol so yea...on the list is DX7, TX81Z and a shit load more lol
Reason people don't like them is mainly cos they can't program them ;-) oh and they killed analogue synths so the old skool prob hate them for putting moog out of buisniess
I had a chance to buy a fully populated TX816 for a really low price once, but thought it was something I wouldn't want. I didn't know anything about it then, of course. Wouldn't mind one now though, or a DX7II.
Have you tried the FS1R? Seems to have good FM spec, and more. I quite like the SY77/99 keyboards as well.
The FS-1R was the last great FM synth yamaha did imo, it's fantastic but it's a joke to program unless you don't mind using software...it's super complex and programing it is like trying to paint a room through a letter box.
Pass on the DX-7 II unless you have a DX-100 or 27..those two 4OP synths have the first gen 12bit convertors which sound the best imo..the mk1 dx7 also has these while the DX7 II has 16bit convertors..also the TX81Z has improved converters over the 100 and 27
I'm not sure, though I expect the 802 would have 16 bit converters, being a DX7mkII rack module.
I have a TX7 on the way to me from Canada, along with a few other bits o' kit. Rather looking forward to it. I think the TX7 was intended as a voice expansion for DX7. There are no onboard controls, as far as I know.
The patch that comes in at around 1:20 in the clip above is rather pleasing to me. I hope I can achieve something similar in my TX7.

@vinyljunkie07
Yes, 707 and DS-8 are exactly the same.. except DS-8 has effects. I've heard they have the same chip as the FB-01? but is that the same as the DX100?

@vinyljunkie07 where can I buy decent DX that's new or in good condition?

@VincentsVideoVisions No, that's the DX-27. DX-21 is slightly different

Hi, really cool stuff again, man. Thanks. I've never played with a DX. It's nice to hear some of what it can do. Very usable sounds indeed.
I'm using my NM1 for FM, and also making a MIDIBox FM with analogue filter. I have a feeling I would really like a Yamaha FM box too.
Cheer man.

I have a TX802, sounds really nice to me and has alot of power, but what is the lowdown on these things in regard to converters etc etc.
