  • I played this piece starting at 8:33 for my high schools 2011 show Icarus

  • Love it. My band, the Trinity Trojan Marching Band played excerpts of this in our 2011 marching show Icarus. Very well done!!!!

  • @brimstone91 My band (American Fork, UT) did this song too. "Shades of Conflict"

  • This was originally written for Martha Graham and her dance company, I believe back in the 30s. When it first came out the critics trashed Barber's music and Graham's performance. At first it was just strings, then - over time - Barber added more instruments until it was full orchestra production. I still feel it is one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed and - sadly - not well known or appreciated.

  • @NajiAli48 it was actually created in 1946 but like said other instruments weren't added until later

  • there are some timing issues toward the end...but it's still good! :)

  • The Adagio is great, but it's been so incredibly overdone, especially since its use in "Platoon." I like this composition better. It is an exhilerating roller-coaster ride of a piece, too rarely heard or programmed.

  • This piece is just the bomb. I wish more Mitropoulos recordings had better sound quality.. Performances like this are unparalleled.

  • Thanks for uploading the song. I heard it today on KUSC radio for the first time. Truly a great piece.

  • I love this piece.
