Using Ubuntu was a lot easier for my grandparents, than for me, the reason is: they never got accustomed to Windows.

i love ubuntu, all linux distributions are now user friendly, i allready tried mandriva and suse linux and debian but ubuntu allways manage to have the best off them all it is very stable and it is the must actual distribution you can find that is. Its easy to work with it but not to setup but with time you learn and have fun doing it and is so protected that is hard u to damage the system.

Fedora was Red Hat then revamped as an independent base, Slackware is Slackware and Gentoo is Gentoo. Anyways this is my input, Ubuntu is a better system than windows once you learn how to use it efficiently however I reccommend dual boot because you can always switch between the 2. Sometimes you need windows to play games so you might have to switch to windows and maybe you want to use an application on windows that linux doesnt have. Ubuntu is great though, looks very nice as well with Compiz.

One problem with every Linux distro is mounting and unmounting of devices. You unplug a USB device without unmounting, there's like a 50/50 chance you have to clean it before you can use it again. The average user will not know how to do that.

Also from personal experience, I will admit Linux as a whole (Ubuntu, Fedora, DSL, etc.) tend to have odd system hangs and program crashes, more than your general Windows install. Something needs to be done about that.

i nener had problems disconnecting usb devices, but even in windows it is advice u to unmount it first , i just disconnect my tdk pen with no problem and no data lost, with windows i add a lot of problems doing that, it didnt damage but wood let me use it n the same session.

Finally, after only 1 day, I decided I wanted Ubuntu to be my primary OS, so i uninstalled Ubuntu, partitioned off another drive, and re-installed linux as an active and primary drive.

As a default, my laptop and desktop both load Ubuntu, unless I tell it to load Vista\XP.

All this in 3 days... for a novice computer user. Linux is no longer for just computer geeks and programmers

With Ubuntu, Linux is making finally the real breakthrough. Linux is now OS for ordinary computer users. Installing Ubuntu 8.04 was rather easy comparing times of Red Hat. Using and maintaining your OS is very easy. Only help i have needed have been cause some videoformats are not opensource (e.g windows mediaplayer oriented). But w32 codecs etc have solved these "problems".

Despite my relative new-ness to Ubuntu and computers in general, Ubuntu is great. Its much more user friendly than Vista. I've had Vista for just under 11 months, and I'm still confused about it.

Switching to Ubuntu is much easier than switching to a Mac or from XP to Vista. I definetely recommend it.

Every software you can think of (other than games), has a Linux equivelent. And if it doesn't, its not important

It doesn't support my Blackberry, but it`ll be created soon

I`m a Ubuntu user, I switched to Ubuntu 3 days ago, I have no background in programming, and no official training in computer use.

I`m just a Political Science grad student really, and I am not a big gamer, though I do occassionally entertain myself, ie: World of Warcraft etc....

Despite my lack of background, its been 3 days, I've customized my desktop with my own theme and installed in variety of softwares (partition editor, Gimpshop & image burners)

That's right. that's why Linux/Unix based operating systems such as Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Linux Mint, Xubuntu, etc. are for advance computer users.

For all Windows or Mac users that want to switch to Linux/Unix operating systems, I'm warning you, it's gonna be hard to learn how it works, but I'll guarantee you, once you've found out how it works, it'll be 100x better than Windows or 70x better than Mac.

I dual boot with Windows XP and Ubuntu, but I want to be Windows free but there's no games that compare to wc3 cs css or other mainstream games like that which are compatible with Ubuntu. If the gaming industry supports Linux I'll get rid of Windows ASAP!~

and then just put the disk in and run it.
