As many of you, I love and prefer the 1983-1984 original miniseries. I watched the 2009 new version but I didn't like it. Of course the 2009 version is more modern, with computer-aided special effects. But I consider this new version boring with no soul. Just two examples : the red uniforms and the mothership of the 1980's Vs! They were both fascinating and frightening. Especially for the kids we were 25 years ago :) The 2009 version just made me feel like watching again the 1983-1984 one.

The new V is miles away form this. This was a lot more insidious and well developed. The new one... a resistance of 4 guys?? Come on!! It's clearly a very low budget series so maybe it does pick up on Season 2 as it's getting some good reviews. Still I don't understand how the new V gets a Season 2 and Firefly was cancelled...
Not to mention that the new V went totally flacid mid-season. Nothing happened for like 4 episodes. It almost got a soap opera/drama feel to it at one point. There was nothing like that in the old V.

An interesting theme as well is that its briefly mentioned that the visitors are fighting a galactic war against an unknown civilisation. And that they intend to use humans to bolster up there armies.
The book V The Second Generation which is set 20 years after the visitor occupation shows that the resistance's call for help was finally answered the race the visitors were at war with (an insectoid race) come to help but people start to question who is worse. (a parallel to the soviets during WWII and then after WWII)
Originally it was going to be the second generation but ABC who still had the tv rights went against what Kenneth Johnson the creator of V wanted and wanted to make their own.
I was very dissappointed in the remake of V. They had something excellent and they screwed it all up. If they keep the fast pace up it will all be over by episode 4 with nothing left to reveal.
the new one, it revealed too much in the first episode....I mean in the first 45 min you find out that the Visitors are evil, and are really reptiles. It took a couple episodes to find out in the 80's version
@pika23 Yes, but that was done on purpose because many V watchers had already seen the original miniseries, so they already knew the Vs are evil. The producers didn't want to drag out are-they-good-or-evil when most watchers already knew.

@pika23 Yes the 80's version is the best,from far!from very very far even.It had suspense and nobody guessed the real intentions of the aliens.IT took a couple of episodes and the series just started like a fairy tale,with aliens coming on earth with pacifist purposes.

The FBI chick gave me too much of a Sarah Connor vibe. The episode also progressed too fast, too, and what we have seen of the resistance, especially given the fact that the red-haired guy has been working on this for ages, is laughable.

i thought the new show was really good. But i'm 16 and i never saw the original series. And i dont think alot of people did which means it will get a good amount of viewers and not the crazy people in the cult for the original show to affect its viewership

My friend and I are fans of Marc Singer because we think of him as the "King of B's". During the 90's every movie he was in was a wonderful B movie, with the exception of, "If you can see what I hear". That was a great flick.
Some visual aspects of this series can be seen years later in a movie called ID4.
