  • this is probably my favorite recording of this song, well done buddy.

  • The Avett Brothers are not the beatles nor are they Bob Dylan. I like Blink 182, AVA, and the Avett Brothers. I do not like Bob Dylan, make sense??

  • Hey spoonhombre, fuck off

  • The last 40 seconds of this song was worth the price of admission. Avetts rock to death.

  • can anyone recommend some other bands like these guys..love it...especially any other more up tempo stuff like the ending

  • @njcooke Check out Delta spirit and Deer tick.

  • theres nothing quite like the avett bros my friend :]

  • @njcooke check out Larry and his Flask too. Very up tempo, kind of a jamboree feel...not really sure what to call it but it's awesome. If you get a chance to see them live DO IT! Amazing show.

I just saw the Avett's live a couple weeks ago, WOW!!! I was a big fan of their older albums before and now I have a new found appreciation for the I and Love and You album. I hope the Avett's keep doing their thing for a very long time. Love it!

  • @driftjumper Thanks so much for sharing the Larry and his Flask rec. They are amazing and may be my new favorite band.

  • @Tarheelz2011 Be sure to check out Trampled by Turtles too. Watch the PBS video on their home page, gives a pretty good idea of what they're all about....shredding on stringed instruments!

  • seth said in a interview, in response to a question about "will you return" being beatles-esqe, that part of the reason they get the comparison is because they sing a little flat, which the beatles did. still, a good song is a good song. IMO, I'm fucking tired of hearing about the "new" beatles, dylan, etc. If the band is good then they will be the first to be themselves. stay in the past if that's where you prefer to be! sorry, no YouTube in the past.

  • There is no way this could have been said better. All musicians are inspired by other musicians. There is no "new" anything thats old. The Avett Brothers are The Avett Brothers. They are great. Enjoy them and shut up.

  • @likeafallingleaf I here that these guys are clearly recreating a new version of singer/songwriting and you can't really base their talents on anything but themselves, I personally think influences can only have so much to do with the products expierences and these guys clearly play to a new routine with as much authenticity as anyone currently or in the past playing. It's so great to listen.

  • @joliet211 This may be an dramatic oversimplification but, being from NC myself, they have always sounded like home to me. Though I've never been able put my finger on it, there is something about their lyrics and tunes and attitudes that evokes North Carolina. If y'all like the sounds of Piedmont and Western NC, you should check out the Carolina Chocolate Drops as well!

  • @joliet211

In America, there's the weed and lsd that drained into the ground at woodstock :D

In Europe, we only have Tsjernobyl >.<

  • Remember, the Beatles ripped off American R & B until 1966 when they started to come into their own.

  • I gotta say, converting the "amateur" video to black and white makes it seem better than the loads of audience recordings on YouTube. Nice job. (It also happens actually BE better, too.)

  • beatles, the avetts, their all great just chill and listen, who cares

    bonnaroooo

  • i absolutely find their eclectic bluegrass stunning and fresh. thanks and cheers:)

  • Get your facts straight.

  • definitely my favorite of their new songs

  • this is a youtube gem: great sound and image quality, nice camera work, and a fucking awesome song...

(if only it didn't come unsynched at the end)

  • tonight I burned the lyrics, 'cause every chorus was your name.....

    amazing lyric

  • they have some of the most amazing harmonizing in this song. yeah i know, they do in every song, but this one especially

  • I can't get enough of this song.

  • what are the chords? it looks like seth capoed on the 5th...i see G and C but they cutting him out.

  • keep in mind that he keeps his guitar tuned down and uses a capo, if you want to play it in standard without a capo its just C and F

  • oh wait no my bad it's B and E in standard

  • this song needs to be somewhere where I can buy it asap

  • This might be my favorite YouTube video of all time. I love the black and white.

  • no freaking way!! jesus was black?

  • seth looks like jesus!

  • except he's not black

  • This song is hot, it's so sexy. I love it.

  • i was there! :)

  • does anyone know the track list for the new ablum?

  • I'm not gonna say that these guys are the best ever, but in my book they affect me as much as the beatles and dylan.... these dudes are SICK NASTY... "woke with a head a full of songs ...spent all day wrote em down but its a shame... tonite I burned the lyrics cause every chorus was your name"... SERIOUSLY? WOW. just WOW.

  • Personally, I think they're better than the Beatles and Dylan... I mean, The Beatles and Dylan are way over rated IMO.

  • ha good one, must have thought i meant the insects and the rapper, no , i mean the best rock band of all time the beatles and the best songwriter of all time Bob Dylan. however high you wanna rate them is fitting because what they have done IS the ceiling. therefore, it would be impossible to overrate them.

  • If you somehow think the Beatles are on the same plane as these fellas, I have a simple equation for you

    chittlin > yoko

  • hmmn i am not quite sure what yoko has to do with the beatles besides being the reason for their breakup... yes chittlin is better than yoko. But as to how that relates the beatles i am not sure. Its not a logical connection to their music.

  • youre a dumbass. how can you even compare this to the beatles? i have a simple equation for you, my lad

    pandrechabot=moron

  • The beatles were pioneers for modern music. They capitalized on harmonies and melodies that you hear every day. Bands today, including the Avetts, are standing on the shoulders of giants. I love the Avetts, but they would be nowhere without the Beatles. Neither would any other band. Seth even admits that in an interview, saying that the Beatles had so many good melodies that whenever he made up a catchy one people compared Scott and himself to Paul and John. You really just can't compare.

  • Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and pandrechabot is one of many who enjoy the stylings of the Avetts much more than the Beatles. They do have two completely different styles, but the Avett Brothers are pioneers in the modern music world much like the Beatles were in the 60's. I, and a great number of Avett fans might say the equation goes: pwsewell1=dickhead.

  • Look I am a huge Avett Brothers fan and I have to disagree that the Avetts are "pioneers" in the modern music world. They just aren't. They make really badass melodies with basic percussion, basic arrangements, and basic 2 and 3 part harmonies in the context of modern rock/pop. As i put it to friends who havent heard them- Imagine if john and paul were brothers born in n. carolina and grew up listening to Townes Van Zandt. THAT is the highest compliment you can give two songwriters.

  • clarkbuddy, I have to respectfully disagree with you by agreeing with you. The Avett Brothers are like if John and Paul were brothers and grew up listening to TVZ but that Does make them pioneers in the modern music world. No longer is anything really "new." That is part of our postmodern period of art, but how we now move forward and explore (pioneer) artistically is by bringing aspects together in a way that they had never been brought forward before. And that is exactly what the Avetts do.

  • I think our discrepancy stems from our respective definitions for the word "pioneer". I can not say that a modern "pioneer" is someone who is doing a combination of things that individually have been done before. The two and three chord songs, the simple but moving harmonies, the honest lyrics, the instruments, etc. all these things have been available for a long time in roots and folk music. In the '00s and now '10s I just cant bring myself to say that someone playing folk/rock/pop is"pioneer"

  • For instance, radiohead is a band I consider to be a "pioneer" because they are doing things that have never been done before. The Avetts are just better at writings american folk songs than anyone else ever. But I believe that is the only thing they "pioneer"-- I think that half of the songs that the avetts have ever made could have very well been on a tvz record or made the cut for rubber soul or some other progressive "folk" record. I feel as if you take this as a slight-don't. I&<3&TAB

  • And I do think that there are "new" things out there. But I do get your point. Since no one is going to reinvent the wheel, we should see those who tweak it the best as "pioneers". I praise those who tweak, however at the moment do refrain from referring to these (post) modern gods as "pioneers". the more i type and the more i read your post I really just see this as an argument over semantics. The Avetts are the shit and we probably both enjoy them to the fullest.

  • I love the Avetts! I love this song! And I love how Scott's dance is kind of like the pee-pee dance...

  • This song is something else. I, too, can't wait for their next album.

  • I know its wrong, but what I wouldn't give to download this video and have it for my very own. It's so good. Great filming, perfect song.

  • take me for a ride, brothers; take me for a ride...

  • I love all their new songs :) i can't wait for the next album

  • ah yeah, my new favorite

  • Wow.. can't wait to see this tomorrow!

  • This is the sexiest Avett song ever!

  • these guys just keep getting better and better and better... unreal!!! thanks for posting

  • This was the best of the set! My new favorite Avett song. Thanks for posting!
