  • Are you able to play through the effects pedal without an amp and use headphones?

  • is the rp355 ok to run directly in front of my Mesa Boogies recotverb 50 tube amp, without any worries of messing up my amp?

  • @GuitarSpecialist I wouldnt use the 355 for this...aim towards the 500 or even better the 1000. You can bypass the amp seaker simulation globally in those products. In the 355 you need to do this by hand per preset

  • @ralfjung If I went in and manually turned off the amp models, could I still use the distortions, effect, whammy and wah,, etc? Man, I don't have th cash for anything new now ;-(

  • @GuitarSpecialist sure, look at the Matrix and see those rows...each row is standing for an effect or the ampsection/Speakersection...each row can be turned on or off independently...and assigend to a preset. You can do this to any preset differently or the same like in the previous preset and any preset can be copied to any location

  • Hey Ralf,

At 7:18 you explained the amp/line switch as controlling the "speaker simulation" being on/off. Can you please confirm that for me? So does this mean that the cab sims for the specific preset you choose will be defeated if you choose "amp"? I thought the switch has something to do with line levels but I could be wrong. Thanks man.

    Joe

  • @ImageRiver well if you push that buttom on the back the outputs are optimized for the usage with an amp or with a mixer. The only preset which does not use a speaker by default is the acoustic simulation. You can add speaker simulation or delete it on any preset though

  • @ralfjung Thanks Ralf

  • Hi I need help.

So I currently record using the USB interface and I use Mixcraft 5 for my software. So after a while, I do not hear any sound streaming through the RP355 to my computer. I went to the control pannel and went to sounds, and made the "Digitech RP355 In/Out" as my default. and same with the recording tab. But it still doesn't work. Please help.

  • @bucketOhead23 Hi there...this is a clear topic for tech support of Digitech. Dont get me wrong but if I am sitting down to find your problem this will cost me hours of my time....please dont be mad at me and contact tech support ok?

  • @ralfjung

Thank you very much for your time Ralf

  • Great video....I'm one of those who learns by seeing and doing, not by reading a manual. I had the ORIGINAL RP1 when they came out in 1993, paid $450 for it then, and it was worth every penny. I just got the RP355 for $100 and can't believe the versatility. Thanks again for the instructional videos. Subscribed and Favorited!

  • Hey man, i know you arent tech support, but i cant get Cubase to work with my computer. Like, it doesnt do anythign when i put the disk in. Do i need to downlaod stuff?

  • @TylerRobinson7 again a tech support question...if it does not do anything it is very likely not the right driver or version for your system...Cubase is usually pretty solid so it is very likely a minor problem

  • Just got this for Christmas and its my first pedal so this video is a huge help. Thank you

  • I don't know why no one has not shown the IPS and other functions in the Pitch Shifter area of the Digitech RP355, to get the sound of dual guitars, an octave up and below... with triple guitar sounds such that Brian May of Queen and the Boston gutiarist uses.

  • this things AMAZING!!!!!does it make coffee too!!

  • @ralfjung Can I use this pedal on my electric violin? Or could you recommend to me any effect pedal for the electric violin? Thank you.

  • @VIOLINSURI if you bypass the ampmodells I am sure it works fine. I know a guy who uses another Digitech unit with a violin with great success

  • I don't care what anyone says but it sounds like shit in front of a amp in amp mode especially on the rectifier and other high gain settings but it sound great in mixer mode in front of a amp.

  • watch my video if you want to hear some of the rp355's sounds!!!

  • I would like you show us a demostration with the level of reveb rp 355 can get, can you show me a demostration of it, 'cos I wanna buy one :P

  • can this be used with my epiphone practice amo that cam with my Epi special II

  • @sirgreggins8824 obiously yes

  • Decapitated use some kind of wah in the song 404. Which is it?

  • that is really nice that it has a looper built in... i just got a looper for $150... it probably has more settings for the loop then this does, but the fact is, this has at least the basics of a tons of effects and costs way less and is much easier to set up then having a ton of individual pedals... i was looking to get the Zoom G1x for 79 dollars...

  • Thnx so much but I was looking for the RP500 is it worth it (i play Heavy metal and Hard rock)

  • it also have a bass presets? which u can make sound of bass thru normal electric guitars?

  • Thank you for this video, very helpful!

  • Hi. My RP355 has been stuck on the MOSHIN 57 preset for about a year now and I have no idea how to change it. I was able to get it on that preset one day and I haven't been able to change it since. How is this done? I have read and re-read the instruction manual and still have no idea. Help!

  • Hi Ralf, Great demo! I have been trying to get an answer to this question without success and I think you are the man to have the answer. I play live in a band running an acoustic guitar through 3 Boss stompboxes: Noise Supressor, Distortion and a Delay pedal (right to left). It then runs through a DI box straight to the PA/Mixing board. Can I replace my pedals and DI with the RP355 or 500 successfully?

    Many thanks

    Many thanks

  • wow this is a great stomp box. I was looking at the Zoom G2.1nu but this one is miles away at the same price.

  • ok that's just sick .

  • its ok if im using only 1 AMP right?

  • This pedal is good for the price but will take getting use to ... The only thing is the wah pedal controls the volume bot the wah .. Is there a setting I'm not doing right

  • dealer wbd sites say that they sound like a given number of amps. Do they sound authentic ror close enough to the amp to where it gives you a specific tone. and is there a place to get custom tones online ?

  • Hey man, how does the unit sound without an amp, if I connect headphones directly to it?

  • @TrebleWizard Hey bro, I got one yesterday and I have spend a majority of my time using it just with my headphones (Sennheiser HD201s) and it sounds extremely nice! I would HIGHLY recommend it!

  • @JaykobMatteo Cool, I ordered one from ebay the other day. Can't wait to try it out.

  • Great review! You cleared up some confusion I had about amp A/B toggling.

  • This pedal has the whammy as the RP-255 ?

  • i hated this pedal... the one thing i will say the USB is a great idea, because i can then use the input for things like microphones and violin to PC the one before was lovely really was so good, the blue one with metal casing? it has some wonderful sounds coming from that thing when you get fiddly

  • You advise the RP-355 or RP-255?

    Thank You

  • what do i have to do to set the expresspedal to control the volume?please tell me i really need help!

  • I have a fender frontman 212 and a roland micro cube. I also own a harley benton cheap guitar. I'm looking for a pedal that gives me efects and distortion, but what i really want is good sound in distortion... am I doing right to get this? Or there is another pedal that fits better for what I am looking for? Thanks

  • my favorite effect is the 80s one it sounds so sweet

  • can i plug my guitar directly on this?

  • Its this better than line 6 pod 2.0? please somebody reply thnx

  • I also own a RP 355 & am new to recording.I would like to know why cubase stops responding on windows 7 & what's the way to setup this unit for cubase? Pls reply.Nice review by the way.

  • I'm using the rp355 and I've been wondering for a while now, that what kind of a rig the device need so I can get it to sound good on higher volumes? Because now, when I plug it in normal speakers or PA:s it sounds kinda toyish or elecrtonic.. Do I have to plug it in some other amp, or is that just the way it is? Sorry if I'm not making sense :D I'm from Finland so my english isn't that great..

  • do i need for normal sound recording an external sound card with cubase or can i put straight to pc and use cubese?

  • Does anyone know how I could get a sound similar to Asking Alexandria out of this?

  • Hello, I have a question. How do I connect the RP355 to my Amp's Effect Loop.?

  • what brand is your guitar?

  • Hi Ralf, I use the RP355 but I want to use a EHX Big Muff as my main distortion, but when I plug my guitar into my pedal, then into the RP355 I just get feedback, EIther way I plug it in I just get feedback, but I can slightly here the big muff, but there is still A lot of squealing. is there anyway to fix this? like a pedal or something I can use? I tried to mess with the Noise gate on the Rp355 but nothing happened. literally. is there a better noise gate pedal or line selector?

  • Hey can you do something like to be able to switch to acoustic simulation with one footswitch to heavy distortion on stage with another one of the footswitches

  • Would anybody happen to know if this thing can handle a high-watt cabinet? I've been looking at amp heads, when I realized I pretty much already had one in this piece of technology, but I have no clue what kind of power it can handle

  • Thanks Ralf!

  • PLEASE, do somebody know, how to configurate good metal core/death core sound on Digitech RP355?

  • @DenyVCZP There's a stock effect that sounds really good for that application, or you can take one of the stock sounds and switch up EQ's and stuff to get your desired sound, I found it pretty easy

  • @itselectric313 and can you give me please any good option for this sound?

  • @DenyVCZP yesir my sound is distorsion on screamer gain 70 tone 45 lvl 70, amp rectifier with digmtl cab dist on 60-75 lvl 65, eq scoop bass 11 hz 1600 mid -4 high 1 presence around neg 1 - 1, noise gate at thresh 35 no realese or attack for high gain leads and delay comp and reverb tweak the eq and thts about it...

  • @1963ajackson thank you a i will try it

  • Friend, tell me if the Wha-Wha stomped it is triggered at the top of the pedal, the same is done in the Digitech GNX pedal and some of the newer Boss? I could confirm this please? Thank you. Henrique-Brazil.

  • @riquerefugio Yes it is the same way! That feature is called V Switch as in virtual switch....

  • @riquerefugio yes it is....there is a so called V Switch which you can assign to your body weight to trigger it

  • haha you look like a hobo

  • @D4V1D811 I would be honored or hurt if I just knew what a hobo is....

  • can u record with the pedal from th usb a track to your pc or u have to buy for ex. lexicon alpha studio...?!!(sorry for my english)

  • @Siouleli The RP355 is an audiointerface and one of its core applications is to function as a sounddevice for your computer. In other words yes you can record tracks to your computer, all you need is a recording software but even that (Cubase LE4) should be in the box of the 355

  • @Siouleli thank u very much!!

  • Ralf, did u connect those two xlr cables to your amp effects loop?just like 4 cable method in rp1000?i do have rp1000 now..i just want to collect more rp effects.they sound great!!!I tried boss gt-10 but i was disappointed..im selling it today and buy rp355..thanks for your video..very helpful.

  • @RG270EX No these XLR were used to record or listen back the sound of the RP. You can not use a 4 cable method on the 355. But you can use the line outs to feed your amp without speakersimulation while the XLR go out to the PA or Mixer with speakersimulation

  • i have the same pedal, and i was wondering waht would be the best setting for a heavy rock sound? something similar to godsmack or evanescence since those are my two favorite bands

  • @anthonyring123 go to digitech dot com and check out thewir tone page or soundcommunity....you will find plenty of examples for that genre

  • Hi Ralf dude what happen if i conect my bass to the digitech 355 to record in cubase the pedal would stop work?

  • @jesusofmaiden if you bass does not overdrive the RP input - it should be just fine

  • @jesusofmaiden they have a BP 355 it's a good unit for bass. the two pedals are set more for the instrament. i did use a legend 21 it made the bass sound a bit guitar like. dont know if you set the sets and direct no amps or cabs it basicly the same pedal.

  • @jesusofmaiden Why not look at an effect designed for bass in order to preserve the low end?

Boss GT10B or the Soundblox Pro Bass Envelope Filter are two I'm looking at now.

  • Hey!!! Good video!! But i cant just use my wah!!!!! I put all that stuff, you know like.. wah on, and wah off, and I use my foot moving that bar,... But I cant!!! I was reading the manual. It said something about EXP PDL and i dont know.... But i just cant!! Can you please please please help me!!

  • @Djlaris13 To do this is to find a preset which has the Wah assigned and then change that one. In case you cant find a preset which has a Wah assigned such as Cry Baby it is possible that your Rp needs to be resetted. Pls see the Factory Reset procedure for this it takes 2 minutes but it will erase all of your settings so save those first to a Computer ok?....your pedal only needs a reset in case the pedal is completely dead on all presets. See the section V Switch on top of this all

  • @ralfjung Can i plug this directly into a cabinet?

  • @MetallicaFan4ever5 No you cant as this device is a preamp only and you need a poweramp to drive the speaker of a cabinet. You can plug your headphones in instead or hook the Rp up to your Hifi or computer monitors

  • Thanx for this vid, I just purchased this and this was very helpful :) Love your playing btw .

  • Guys can anyone help?....i have the rp355 but i cant seem to find a way to switch between heavy metal distortion and a clean tone used for quiet songs i cant find how to use the foot pedal parts to switch between them and what to edit if you get my drift any help would be much appreciated thanks

  • HOWDY!!! where's your pack, r u on drugs indian!

  • @winnlamp useful comment......thx for stopping by

  • @ralfjung is it possible to get two effects out of the same section.. for eg. two different harmonies?

  • @XxicruffesionalxX No that is not possible I am afraid

  • @ralfjung sigh... ok w8 can u set and effect... for eg. distortion and have an extra distortion model on ur stompbox?

  • @XxicruffesionalxX one in each row this is the rule of thumb. If you use distortion as stompbox and a digitech distortion ampmodel thats one effect per row right?

As a tip try cranking the volume on each model but reducing the distortion gives you sometimes better clearer results...also try to incorparate the compressor

  • @XxicruffesionalxX dude.. that was just an example... and i know what effects to use in my preset....i just like the tone from 2 different distortion types and i wanted to combine them... so i was thinkin if i could stompbox some distortion.... o well... but i also wanted a extra harmony stompbox..... o well... that wont work out.... digitech should consider a feature like this tho.. altho not much ppl might be usin it.... still very convinient..

  • Amazing basic tutorial. You explained everything nicely and didn't leave anything hanging. Thanks alot

  • nice video, thx¨!

    cheers

  • i just bought this product! no sound coming out of my amp!!!! what seems to be the problem?

  • @pgf1178 Make sure you have the OUTPUT cords going to the amp. The Input cord should be from the guitar to the pedal.

    amp ------ pedal ------- guitar

Note: Usually I plug the output into the Left output. It seems to work better.

  • i'm from philippines. can i plug this device to a 220v outlet?

  • is it plastic or metalic ?

  • hi i have the rp350 and i need help

when i use the speakers simulation on amp mode, cause its connected on a amp not a mixer, my sound is waayy to bright and sharp, but on mixer mode it seems fine

can you help me please , thnx

  • @alsem333 Do you have too much trbele?

  • @ShadowShocker99 No, i lowered the distortion treble and turned of the eq,i stil hear a very bright sound , i only have this on my new amp, its a fender frontman 212R, before that i used a behringer , and didnt have that problem, could it be because the fender is different and has more "power" ?

  • is this good for a megadeth-ish thrash metal tone?

  • did anyone else get annoyed by the way he says "parameter" ???? just wondering.

  • could i just put on effects and modelation with my amps sound and just by pass the amp modelation. because i just wanna be able to put on an effects every now and again or use the wammy but still keep my amps distortion and tone could i do that with this device

  • He must be a great guitar teacher. Explains everything very clear and with out any complications, after what I saw I just went and I bought the damn thing...

  • I just bought a rp355 after watching your videos.Great demos.

  • Thanks for your very useful instructional video. Your first one was the reason I bought the RP355 and I've been hoping that you would do another one that covers how to use it. I've had great fun with it so far but now that you've done this video I can start using some more features, particularly the loop.

It sure beats the useless manual! Thanks again for an excellent job.

  • when i make a wah effect the wah doesnt really seem to stand out like it should...like the wah is quiet while the notes are fine...what settings do i need to make my wah sound very loud and hearable

  • I appreciate videos like this - especially if you're thinking and deciding what to buy. I typically get user manuals off the internet to see what a product (electronics especially) does - features and all. This is a great video. I know a harmonica player that has one of these. If you can answer this, what do you think.

    Thanks, jeff

  • hola ralf te quisiera preguntar si conoces la multiefectos muza gp 300, quisiera sacar distorsiones lo mas parecidas al guitarrista de DISTURBED, si me podes alludas con algunos consejos, bueno saludos.

  • thanks for sharing this info!

    you say para-Meet-ers; I say pa-RAM-eters. :-)

  • (:I want one I'll go out and buy it:)

  • Hi Ralf,

    I have one question.

Is the RP255 bigger than RP355?

Digitech's website say 255 is 14" wide and 355 is about 13" wide.

Why would they make 255 bigger, since it is supposed to be compact.

    Thanks

  • @Mercury6 no its not bigger or better

  • ugly ok tone tho

  • can you select between the distortion models that digitech writes in its website

  • how does this compare to the RP500 soundwise?? Any differences?

  • @SoundborgTheBand The RP500 has more effects.

  • good demo

  • cheers for this demo, very clear and straight to the point unlike other videos lol im going to buy this for definate tommorow, i owned an RP155 2 years ago, so I know I can trust them for the effects clarity unlike previously boss and zoom pedals ive owned. i love the A/B switch and stompbox modes, i play alot of progressive rock and metal so will come in very handy :)

  • @Max4654 you cannot create a factory preset....you can only change user presets....when the unit comes out of the box for the first time it has two sets of identical presets the factory and users...both sets are organised in banks following each other which means once you come to the end of that one bank you jump to the other automatically

  • can you just plug it into your guitar and amp or do you have to plug it into your PA/studio?

  • @guitarsolo365 No this thing works in any situations...in front of an amp or plugged into the PA directly...I recommend using it directly where you can control the sound precisely like at home in the studio or at gigs where volume is critical...when using an amp use the poweramp in if possible

  • are you running the output from the right channel and not the mono left?

  • @staple765 This was just to monitor myself....I had the XLRs for sound of the video

  • Hey Ralf, why do you tune to flats? my guess is to have less tension on the neck, but just wondering.

  • @staple765 it is because of two reasons...a it makes the strings looser and that way you can use a heavier set...heavier set of strings means more tone with certain guitars and playing styles

b I think the sound is a little warmer and it goes well with vintage guitars

  • @ralfjung Thanks for your reply Ralf.

  • @ralfjung how do you use tuner mode?

  • how do i turn off the rp355? i cant find an on/off button..

is it just pluggin the power chord out?

  • @ruudiee2 Pull the plug...there is no hidden on/off switch thats the way to do it

  • Comment removed

  • @ralfjung

hmmm, doesnt make any sense to me... whatever if the pedal makes a nice sound im happy :)

is there a way to creat more banks but stored on my computer and loaded via X-edit?

  • does the expression pedal control whammy please??

  • @hansley270 yes its awesome on whammy dude. it has all features off the whammy

  • idk how to get good sounding distortion out of this pedal

  • @kevin2849 ask ralfjung... but i have a rp355 and it has basically everything to develop ur tone

  • @kevin2849

turn on an amplifier you like and put amp gain to what you want

then go to distortion and set gain and amp gain to what you want :P

  • @PJayDavis perform a pedal calibration as it is documented in the manual...sometime this happens...but the recalibration will bring the pedal back

  • any suggestions on how to make the pedal better? will studio monitors help as oppose to speakers because the distortion and presets dont sound as good as it is in your videos.

  • @KingofPho75 When I do recording and compose music I use the RP as an audiointerface so it is connected to my studio monitors. When I use an amp with it I try to avoid the preamplifier section of that amp (especially when it is a Marshall type). The preamp in any amp works as a tone shaper that can be helpful with some sounds but most of the time it masks the sounds coming from the RP....try connecting to the poweramp instead (FX return or power amp in)

  • @ralfjung thanks for the tip but i am currently only using regular speakers that could be the reason.

  • Can you do an instruction video for the RP 255 in just the same manner as this video? This is helpful, but it is not the exactly the same.

  • @selikad I think I did 2 RP255 videos check them out!

  • How did u change the stomp box effect in switch 2?

  • @hellow504jr I was in stompbox mode

  • @ralfjung hey in looper mode can u change from amp a to b still??

  • I've got a Vox VT30, would you say that getting this will be worth it? Will it work? I would really like to know because I was thinking of getting one of these but I'm not sure if it'd be worth the 160ish pounds that I'd pay if it: a) didn't work or b) didn't add much to my pallette of stuff.

  • @sirderns Sorry mate - I dont know that Vox VT30....I dont even know what that is....I think it is best to ask your local dealer

  • Can i use this pedal with a line 6 spider amp

  • @edgareca010296 I always recommend to use the Rp direct into the poweramp section of an amplifier but if you set the Spider to be clean and neutral sounding without effects engaged it might work

  • @ralfjung im getting an rp 255 can i still assign presets to both pedals and turn them on and of during a song?

  • @U2935 if you mean the stompbox mode, unfortunately the rp255 doesn't feature it...

  • @U2935 Sure you can....any presets can hold any sound you copy or create under that preset location

  • @edgareca010296

Using an effects pedal through a modelling amp won't sound very good

  • I have the blue version or something, RP350 i think, but it has a tiny flaw lol, it makes this cacophony whenever you change a preset and you move forward, it's weird and it sucks ): Cleans are awesome though

  • Does it have a whammy pedal built in? im trying to get that Tom Morello Sound...

  • @frickentpot Yeah, I just got it. It's got freakin everything! I started learning a ton of rage and buckethead solos!

  • @j8ers94 That sounds pretty sexy. I know whats on my christmas list now! thanks bro!

  • @frickentpot yup all features of the whammy ... divebomb,2 octaves, etc everything and more its awersome

  • will this pedal work with the spider line 6 IV 75 watt amp??

  • @sleepwalkingparallel works with every amp dude

  • hey man, roughly how long does it take to fully understand how to use the Digitech rp355?
