an outside or hybrid boxer can beat a muay thai fighter but he'd need a lot of patience to do it. it looks like these guys go in not knowing anything about their opponents. It's been shown a boxer CAN beat a martial artist, it depends on the fighter not the style.

Ever realized, every tournament outside of Thailand, Muay Thai is not allowed to use full Muay Thai rules? I never knew, even games can do this to Muay Thai. But now I can see clearly, that even in games, Muay Thai is not allowed to use all of it's abilities. They always handicap Muay Thai fighters, for their own safety, and handicap reasons.
the thing i hate about these other fighting styles; ufc, mma, boxing, taekwondo, karate, jujitsu, kickboxing, etc. is that, when they fight a muay thai, they do not allow the muay thai to use; counter sweep, through down, clinch infinity knees, clinch elbow strikes, flying knees, elbow and knee strike combinations, etc. also, grab the opponent lying down on the floor, and break his neck, oh wait, that is muay boran.

well its just something else, they offcourse are not slow, but the footwork is totally different, boxers tend to move their upper body more to dodge, instead of moving with your feet, cuz you cant kick or punch beneath the waist, they aint trained to get kicks on the legs, that doesnt mean they dont have trained leg muscles, most have a good cardio (cuz well boxing is more rounds than kickboxing) but if you aint used to those legkicks it might get you down after like 5 hard kicks
nothing wrong with boxing, kick-thai is just more complete, put that boxer vs a kickboxer or thaiboxer on kick or thai rules, he prolly loses (tho he might win on superior boxing with a ko in the early rounds)

true, like i said, kick and thaiboxing is more complete, so better suited for the street than boxing, on the other hand, if you try to give a highkick, and they catch your leg, take you down, you might get kicked to shit, so maybe for the street it might be a good idea to keep your feet on the ground most of the time, unless you are sure you can punish him bad
You are absolutely right. I train Muay Thai and in a street fight I would mostly rely on my fists. Throwing kicks is risky in selfdefense. I would only use kicks for surprise attacks, front kick or knees to the groins etc.
However the thaiboxer has the advantage of constant training to block, take or avoid kicks. That's the big handicap of the boxer in the video. He couldn't deal with lowkicks. If he had trained kick defense for some months he probably would have had a fair chance against the thaiboxer.
i agree, thats the flaw of most american kickboxers, most arent trained well in legkicks, as in american rules no kicks below the belt are allowed, then they fight on k1 rules (or full thai, but why would you fight full thai if you aint trained in it => stupidity) and just go down on the legs

Well you have to consider that the muay thai fighter was Alexey Ignashov. One of the best heavyweights at that time and arthur williams? very b class boxer who fought at cruiserweight (200 lbs) alexey was about 260 lbs
well arthus williams has a 47/17/1 record with 30 ko's so i guess he's not that bad, and looking at him at that point he was a bit heavier too, tho ignashov is like 8cm taller, left alone younger and on his top, while williams was kinda over it

@thunderchundering Not 8 limbs, 8 contact points, 4 limbs vs 2, but boxers make more use out of their fists than muay thai fighters. The main advantage a muay thai fighter has on a boxer is that most boxers don't know lower body defense, since hitting below the belt is against boxing rules. The muay thai fighter used that here (obviously) and caused a lot of early damage with it.

I trained Muay Thai for 2 years, so don't try to say it's the best style. 2 years of muay thai, grappling, bjj, boxing, kali (also known as eskrima), basic weapons training and concepts of jeet kune do. Because you've only trained for such a short period, you're short sighted. There is no such thing as a best martial art, only better martial artists.
My muay thai instructor, unlike you says something else... he says muai thai is one of the most efficient striking arts, and hes doing various kind of martial arts for over 30 years... karate, bjj, muay thai, boxing, shoot boxing, jeet kun do, taekwon do and many many others but he prefers muai thai and bjj (MMA so to speak) most. now, one like my instructor loves muay thai, another like you doesnt. so... no one cant say its good or bad!

Yeah, its a weakness with boxing, ur taught to be light on your feet and "dance like the butterfly" The stance leaves your lower region open, it was never designed to fend off and take blows to the knee region. I have to give credit to Muay Thai fighters, they are belt like a rock! BUT! in a street fight always always always always the boxers/brawler/MMA will win!

@stfu0r I'll agree that Fedor has some powerful hands... But his boxing is not that good if you look at it technically. Its more of a Russian styled boxing. They roll their fists as they punch. When he throws hooks, he rotates his fists so he is basically Backhand punching someone with his fist. Its SUPER EFFECTIVE obviously... But his boxing is no where near top notch. If he fought a A Class HW boxer.. Tyson, Ali (In their Prime) in a BOXING Match... He would get schooled.

Ever realized, every tournament outside of Thailand, Muay Thai is not allowed to use full Muay Thai rules? I never knew, even games can do this to Muay Thai. But now I can see clearly, that even in games, Muay Thai is not allowed to use all of it's abilities. They always handicap Muay Thai fighters, for their own safety, and handicap reasons.

well its just something else, they offcourse are not slow, but the footwork is totally different, boxers tend to move their upper body more to dodge, instead of moving with your feet, cuz you cant kick or punch beneath the waist, they aint trained to get kicks on the legs, that doesnt mean they dont have trained leg muscles, most have a good cardio (cuz well boxing is more rounds than kickboxing) but if you aint used to those legkicks it might get you down after like 5 hard kicks

You are absolutely right. I train Muay Thai and in a street fight I would mostly rely on my fists. Throwing kicks is risky in selfdefense. I would only use kicks for surprise attacks, front kick or knees to the groins etc.

However the thaiboxer has the advantage of constant training to block, take or avoid kicks. That's the big handicap of the boxer in the video. He couldn't deal with lowkicks. If he had trained kick defense for some months he probably would have had a fair chance against the thaiboxer.

@thunderchundering Not 8 limbs, 8 contact points, 4 limbs vs 2, but boxers make more use out of their fists than muay thai fighters. The main advantage a muay thai fighter has on a boxer is that most boxers don't know lower body defense, since hitting below the belt is against boxing rules. The muay thai fighter used that here (obviously) and caused a lot of early damage with it.

Knowing a style and knowing how to defend against it are two different things, the muay thai fighter knew boxing, the boxer didn't know muay thai.

I trained Muay Thai for 2 years, so don't try to say it's the best style. 2 years of muay thai, grappling, bjj, boxing, kali (also known as eskrima), basic weapons training and concepts of jeet kune do. Because you've only trained for such a short period, you're short sighted. There is no such thing as a best martial art, only better martial artists.

My muay thai instructor, unlike you says something else... he says muai thai is one of the most efficient striking arts, and hes doing various kind of martial arts for over 30 years... karate, bjj, muay thai, boxing, shoot boxing, jeet kun do, taekwon do and many many others but he prefers muai thai and bjj (MMA so to speak) most. now, one like my instructor loves muay thai, another like you doesnt. so... no one cant say its good or bad!
