I think this is a battery i mean this is an aluminum battery, I guess, the reaction is known and it's caused by mixing sodium hydroxyde and water and aluminum and I think it's good cheap way if we use aluminum foil the question is how much aluminum, water and sodium we need to get 1 little of hydrogen, then we know for sure if it's cheap and practical or not, John I really need to know how much of each do we need?
if you use enough lye or caustic soda in your water and had aluminium, you will produce great amounts of hydrogen from the process, but be careful ive heared that alot of aluminium gas can cause alzheimer's, so use a face mask when messing with aluminium
Aluminum reacts with strong acids or bases to produce hydrogen without any battery. I used to fill balloons with hydrogen by this method when I was a kid. Zinc and hydrochloric acid works better. The metals are consumed by the reaction, so it isn't practical. Too expensive.
I feel that this needs to be revisited it a very intriguing concept battery free hydrogen. I think is "static electricity" between the two metals causing electrolysis and creating hydrogen.WOW!!!!
in 284 (stan myers one) you stated that he used the cell as a capacitor ..getting a charge of hydrogen at saturation point ! Didnt you just create a capacitor by not adding the lye (storing the energy) and by adding the lye convert that capsitor into a hydrogen generator???

Hi John, Just a regular chemical reaction, producing hydrogen ,zinc oxide and electron flow. They word is the electricity to make aluminum is released when the chemical reaction is reversed. Kewl eh!
From John AArons.. Making Hydrogen by using this process... presents many problems.. it will be a long time before it can be used right.. as for ME I will be using the Stainless Steel Plate system and making plenty of Hydrogen.
I learned may years ago in automotive repair to never put aluminum engine parts into a caustic cleaning tank. They will be damaged. hydrogen can be made by taking scrap aluminum like pop cans and put them in a stainless steel tank add 1 pound of cheap drain cleaner (lye) add water , be careful use eye protection then you will get hydrogen and heat plus a gob of white sludge + steam , done it many times.

one thing to think about. 99% hydrogen means, you can safely store it in a compressed container. unlike HHO, doing such a thing would be suiside!

Very true hydrogen will not burn without oxygen.
No oxygen no flashback making it very safe to work with.
