German bands - played Wagner imperfectly!!!! Why are they changing the text? Otherwise fun production! (I noticed Hildebrand changed the words in the Act II finale too. What's up with that?
This is neat, I'm involved with a production of Princess Ida this year and my dad plays Gama, and I find he does it very well, and this guy in the video is a little choppy.
I really rather like this interpretation of King Gama. I think there is a temptation with this role (a temptation not avoided by even Doyly Carte baritones) to play Gama rather as a leering pantomomime king and this can occasionally slip into being over mannered. This version however is very enjoyable and a novel interpretation, well done!
