i played RE4, and i thought it was great. then i got code veronica X, and it discouraged me from getting other old RE games. the gameplay and controls were awful, as well as the voice acting. it was very slow, too. i got bored of it quickly. is this game any better?
@Trascist If it was the controls of code veronica x that bothered you (especially since you had already played RE4), then you definitely won't like the controls here. It's the same thing. This game is really slow too since you often have to backtrack across several rooms, and the A/B scenario feature only makes the game drag on longer than it needs to, IMO. And if you don't like horrible voice acting, then you should definitely stay away from the first Resident Evil.
@Trascist Well a lot of RE fans tend to shun aside Code Veronica, but i personally really liked it. If you started on RE4 and are into the whole action style of it then you arn't going to like the original ones im afraid. Code Veronica has the same mechanics and style of gameyplay as the original 3. RE4 was supposed to be a reboot and it was a good action game, but for many of us, RE is all about survival horror and zombies and RE4 had neither of those.
@Alchohollica i really like survival horror. I love the original silent hills and dead space. But CV really confused me with all the having to run back and forth throughout levels and needing to find certain items that are easy to miss. It seemed like the game just assumed i knew exactly what to do and where to go. I ended up using an online walkthrough and still havent gotten to play as chris yet.

Resi 4 is laughable- you can go through half heartedly poppin heads like a fps- resi one is like ahh finally a nice safe empty room (camera change) shit no its not- and shit i have to dodge it as ive got fuck all bullets left- and you actually have to use your head to solve the puzzles- if i were you try halo/ space invaders
resident evil 1 , directors cut and 2 are classic , never played a better horror game that creates such an atmosphere - resident 3 is quite good buts doesnt cut it ont eh scare factor for me

@sourmilkandcereal You could probably get into the more action-centered RE games like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. They definitely play more like an action game and less of a horror game.

@sourmilkandcereal well 1 and 2, maybe 3 all have a very easy mode with 2 on arrange mode, you get infinite smg, infinite rocket launcher and gatling gun, re1 gives you twice the items, good way to get into it
I think RE2 is the best of the series in 98 there wasn't many horror games and RE2 scared the shit out of me back in the day RE1 is awesome too n the silent hill and fatal frame series
hands down the most epic resi in the series, resi 2 simply was fantastic, lets not forget the original 1.5 version was 70-80% complete before they canceled it and gave us the resi 2 we know and love today!
Not to mention, i loved re's 1, specially2, 3, not so much4 but i have courage playing alone at night. But Fatal Frame 3, hell i couldn't play by myself. I think re's are better but ff i always play during day with spectators. :s
Its funny how the "fixed camera angles" are all just pictures, giving the 3D effect, when in reality your just walking around in a 2d world, ive played this many times and never reality noticed that the backgrounds never moved, until recently, but this was also a smart choice in style by the developers, as the memory of consoles then were limited, and this style allowed them to make a big game using only pictures for the entire world, crazy huh?

im more into killing than doing puzzles so thats why i liked 4 more than 1,2 and 3 but they were still fun and 5 eh it was ok but a bit too much action
@HereComesHerpes there is ALOT of debate over these 2 games but you will find there is an almost equal amount of praise on each so it's better to get both

the cam angle is annoying for an ACTION GAME but i loved it in resident evil. not knowing whats round the corner just made me jump when i tried to get away from 1 zombie, run round a corner and see 5 of them comming toward me. indeed, a remake of this game with next gen graphics would be FUCKING AWESOME

Should i play part 1 or 2? They have ResidentEvil 1 Directors cut and Resident Evil2 , which one should i get? i can only get 1 thought, at least for right now.
RE4 broke the mold? i don't think so man,RE dead aim,gun survivor and the one for the gameboy were released before RE4 and were WAYY different from the original ones
@andree1991 dead aim & gun survivor were different approaches to the game that had nothing to do with the original story. RE1, RE2, RE3, RECVX, RE4, and RE5 are the premiere ones with the actual story. RE4 did break the mold IMO, as it was the first game of the original story to have different gameplay.
My Order of my fav. Resident Evil goes in this order,
1.Resident Evil 2.
2.Resident Evil 1
3.Resident Evil 3
4. Resident Evil 4
5.Resident Evil5
This one, I just loved it, Because it felt more like I was there, because its more city like, and stuff, Its hard for me to tell witch one I like better Between the 1st and second, Re2=I like the Weapon Choose better and The place that you play in seems more ofa realistic feel,.Re1.=I like Chris and the puzzles were harder witch I enjoy.
I got this on PSN it was awsome but I thought Leon and Ada were supposed to kiss right before she died, the eye monster was supposed to attack the train at end, Mr. X was supposed to be in the game and most important, I watched Barry die in the first game with my own eyes how the hell did he come back to life!? I also didn't get to fight Tyrant in the 1st game which I was kinda looking forward to. : (

re5 and re4 , where good games, but i always hated the camera views, in 1,2,3 ... and the other side games they made, re3 was my fav game, beat it like 7 times, just for the hell of it, and still played it when the ps2 was out, i just bought re2 from the ps store on the ps3, and i only played a few hours of it, and got board, graphics suck, but the story line is really well put together, a game for its time, but it no way better then re5... i like how the story unfolded

Anyway, I can't agree with your arguments. You know you can finish 1 and 2 in under 1,5 hours even with only using the knife, right? Though thats kinda freaking hardcore ;).

id say that resident evil 2 and 3 where the best ever. It was a truley good horror game n had very good qualities. music. angles. puzzle. combat. all very good. My only problem with RE2 is that it's essentially the same four hour game played four times over with only minor differences between them. Yes, it is a very excellent four hour game, but by the time I played the fourth and final scenario it got pretty old.
It's still a great game that pushed its series forward and it's well worth picking up, but I really think RE3 (and later REmake for the cube) perfected this type of gameplay.
This game scared the sh*t out of me but I still wanted to play more!!! I never thought video games could scare you. It was the first time a game ever scared me.
when I was 11 I used to play this when we went "camping" and I was the only one out of 4 boys (mum;s friends' sons) and 2 girls ( mum and her friend) who was brave enough to play it. And I was 3 years younger than the boys AND a "whining girl" XD

meh,the first one was better,RE 2 there were parts that were flawed in the game play:
1.the game was rushed to soon.
2.you should be able to beat the game if your board by the time you finish it in the next less 4 hours.
3.their wasn't much to look around,just the R.P.D. and the underground trying to find a way out.

Anyway, I can't agree with your arguments. You know you can finish 1 and 2 in under 1,5 hours even with only using the knife, right? Though thats kinda freaking hardcore ;).
And te RPD and the undergrounds were big enough I think. Especially since you forgot the labs. And what is it you wanna do in a RE game? Explore stuff? Then go play GTA or something like that.
But I do agree with you that RE1 was better.

id say that resident evil 2 and 3 where the best ever. It was a truley good horror game n had very good qualities. music. angles. puzzle. combat. all very good. Now id say resident evil 4 is a whole new game mainly focusd on actions still a good game but just different.. Now if they remade Resident evil 2 thatd be godly

My only problem with RE2 is that it's essentially the same four hour game played four times over with only minor differences between them. Yes, it is a very excellent four hour game, but by the time I played the fourth and final scenario it got pretty old.
It's still a great game that pushed its series forward and it's well worth picking up, but I really think RE3 (and later REmake for the cube) perfected this type of gameplay.

This game scared the sh*t out of me but I still wanted to play more!!! I never thought video games could scare you. It was the first time a game ever scared me.

when I was 11 I used to play this when we went "camping" and I was the only one out of 4 boys (mum;s friends' sons) and 2 girls ( mum and her friend) who was brave enough to play it. And I was 3 years younger than the boys AND a "whining girl" XD
