  • Dry Ice is about negative 100 to negative 109 degrees If you just poke it really fast it just feels cold. But if you hold large amounts, you can get serious frostbite. There is even this trick where you put a small sliver in your mouth and blow out smoke rings.

  • 0:06 how come the water was yellow after the wave?!

  • idiots!

  • now the ocean is carbonated

  • fake idiiot

  • if they sunk huge ships in the ocean loaded with that stuff it would end global warming. Now i want Al Gore's noble peace price

  • Law of physics states any idiot that comes on youtube and trys to explain all this chemical bullshit and not speak normal english should be shot! Thank you and goodnight! Lol!

  • great way to clear a beach in california! just say that a volcanic vent has opened, no one will go near it to check; for fear of being burned= your own reserved personal slice of ocean :)

  • @awesomemrcheese omg you're stupid. Touching liquid nitrogen will instantly freeze you. Point blank period.

  • And people are wondering why global warming is coming so fast.. Because of some morrans having fun with CO2 ice. which actualy is dry ice and it polutes the earth.

  • @dainiuzis you got us. It wasn't cars or trash or radiation. It's "morrans" playing with dry ice.

  • smoke on the water........

  • WELL THAT GUY SEEMED TOO BE BURN FREE FROM IT HAHA

  • I the onli one her vho kan spell.

  • If only this worked. then i could walk across to mexico :)

  • Gloves aren't expensive. Not a smart move.

  • -80 degrees

  • God ur suck douchebags!

  • ahh run its a volcanoe!!!!!!!!!

  • all of u like it in the butt

  • Did that guy seriously say "it's hot" lol....

  • @kikook222

it is, i held them once at first it's really cold then soon after it gets burning hot

  • @NoComprehend I love our bodies, it's so stupid that we can't tell the temp of something when it's to the extreme. You know, when you touch a stove and say "It's not hot" then of course "OMG OOOOOOOOOOW", but our senses are awesome. So is dry ice, I know it's hot when you hold it lol, I just love the irony between the man and the ice. When ice is cold it's cold, but when it's dry ice it's cold, then scortching hot lol.

  • eww, the water looks gross. o -o

  • Under THESE conditions, there is no liquid phase. However, CO2 can be pressurized to a liquid. Just clarifying because in the description you make it sound like it does not have a liquid phase at all. That is false. So if you pressurized a block of dry ice at the right temperature, it will go to a liquid phase.

  • wow that beach is dirty

  • @yeemike302 this wasn't a movie.......

  • RTFM

  • What is cool is when you take a big chunk of dry ice and press it against a block of steel.

Makes the most horrible noise ever, like a screeching chalkboard x50

  • Dry ice doesn't kill you when you touch it lmao. Worst case scenario is you get a nasty freeze-burn. You might be thinking Liquid Nitrogen which can pretty much freeze your limbs solid.

  • you can actually touch it w/ no real ill side effects....actually used to swallow small pieces as a teenager so I could burp up 'smoke'.......tons of fun, guessin' my insides are tweeked due to said teen idiotic behavior...but hey, I only live once

  • aaahhh, that was a bad idea. touching it, i mean... Jeez, you'd think people would know better.

  • yo dumb ass you arnt supposed to touch the dry ice dip shit

  • your cousin will know it when he has no more hands, Dry ice can instantly burn the skin right off of your hands.

  • lol what are u? 5?

  • lol its not that cold, u are really stupid if ur 17 and think that dry ice is -4000 degrees

  • That's Probably Not Even Possible, AS you see since absolute Zero Is -476 Degrees Faranheit, It would probably either stop there and the molecules will stop moving. Otherwise the container won't be able to hold in the extreme Temp. I'm probably wrong and some person is going to correct me in some rude fashion.

  • what?

  • @lisn92 just -70°C, cold enough

  • @lisn92 im 17 and i dunno wot dry ice is

  • @dvdsmlprstylr Dry Ice is the solidified version of nitrogen and has a temperature of -109.3 degrees Fahreinheit, and -78.5 degrees Celsius.

  • @dvdsmlprstylr You don't know how to spell either.

  • @mysoteria7 According to QI, if the spelling is incorrect on purpose - for phonological reasons - then it is classed as acceptable language.

To prove I do know how to spell, I will repeat my last post in proper english...

"I am seventeen, and I do not know what dry ice is."

  • @dvdsmlprstylr Alright. Very well. ;)

That actually made me laugh. I didn't read the other comments.

  • @lisn92

The minimum temperature is about -2800 degrees celsius. That means It's impossible that it would be -4000 degrees, so you are right.

  • @lisn92

The minimum temperature is about -2800 degrees celsius. Nothing can go below that.. That means It's impossible that it would be -4000 degrees, so you are right.

  • @TheBusringers lol he was retarded and woot one of my comments has been rated one of the highest :D

  • @TheBusringers

The minimum temperature matter is −273.15 degrees Celsius, or 0 Kelvin.

  • Comment removed

  • @kierandempsey1 theoretically the absolute zero is at -273(degrees Celsius)\0 degrees Kelvin. In my personal opinion it should be somewhat lower than that; but I've no where you got the -284C from. Please elaborate!

  • @kierandempsey1 -273.15 degrees Celsius, actually.

  • @kierandempsey1 -273C or 0 Kelvin you cant go lower

  • @TheBusringers Fuckin retard you can only go down to -273 Celsius or 0 Kelvin its physically imposable to go lower!!!!

Dont correct people if you dont know!!!

  • @lisn92 I dont think its -4000 its jus propably -78.5 celsius degrees

  • @lisn92 dry ice IS like - 4000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 degreees

  • @cattoes666 no, no its really not

  • @cattoes666 Idiot, the lowest temperature possible is -273 C.

  • @kingartur007

    I wasn't being literal "Idiot"

  • @cattoes666 fuck off. dry ice is only about 80 degrees or something.

  • read the description dumb shit

  • even with sand, what happens with sand when it gets heated? lol, it turns to glass!

What happens when it freezes? Bet you've never looked into that have you?

  • Sand is a solid (the same thing as frozen).

  • you cant freeze a solid dumbass solids are techinically frozen already because freezing is defined as the a change of state from liquid to solid

  • so my fingernails are frozen? news to me, awesome!

  • @ZronZ you can only go down to -459.4 f so your a stupid idiot

  • @alewisgb logic was not in the question at that time, so please don't waste your time responding to my comments. The dislikes on this video compared to the likes just shows how retarded the creator is.

  • @alewisgb 9-273.15 degrees C x 9 degrees F/ 5 degrees C) + 32 degrees F =-459.67 degrees F

    Ya just got pwned.

  • @ZronZ on earth you can only go down to -459.4 or 0.15 kelvin (but normally 2 kelvin) you have to go into deep space to go down to 459.67, either way you were wrong because as first stated by you was -4000 f

    so "Ya just got pwned"

  • @alewisgb wrong again, on earth you can go down to 459.67 degrees.

  • @ZronZ Absolute zero is the theoretical temperature at which entropy reaches its minimum value. The laws of thermodynamics state that absolute zero cannot be reached. Scientists have achieved temperatures very close to absolute zero, where matter exhibits quantum effects such as superconductivity and superfluidity.

"Ya just got pwned" You cant go to 0 Kelvin

  • @alewisgb your science mumbo jumbo doesn't mean anything to 459.67 degrees on earth :3

i'm not going to give up.

  • I'd laugh if the whole sea froze XD

  • you dont

  • you get a huge machine to freeze carbon dioxide into blocks.

  • I just got older.....

  • You touch small pieces of it for a bit without it giving you cold burns but a block that big you would usually need some gloves

  • i use this stuff on halloween.i put chunks of ot in metal pots around the makeshift cornfield in the front yard.looks real spooky at night with strobe lights flashing.

  • when u put dry ice in water ice (warmer ice) coats all around it thats why it doesnt burn him

  • that'd be crazy if it was like ice nine (Cats Cradle)

  • Thats gotta burn the hands.

  • lol if the ocean froze then........

    goodbye global warming :)

  • LoL good one xD

  • lol if the whole ocean froze lol

  • hope the waters not cold!

  • DRY ICE WILL BURN U!! GO TOUCH IT AND SEE!! gosh..idiots

  • it will severly burn if u hold for more than nine seconds if less it will also burn but not as much

  • But Hes Grabbing It With Sand There Fore NOT Touching It With Skin

  • yes but touching it with your skin will burn u.

  • it doesnt burn it just feels like a burn. its actually freezing your hand

  • no its so cold that it burns u. not freezes u.

  • true

  • it'll just give you frostbite if you hold for too long.

  • happened to me before

  • Wrong. Im no scientist but i have played with dry ice before. When placed in water long enough, the out part of the dry ice will turn to actual ice. This way, it isn't super cold but it also starts to not bubble as much.

  • yeah, if you want lots of smoke you put the dry ice in hot water because cold water just freezes like an ice shell around the dry ice, and there is usually only one small hole where the CO2 gas comes out.

  • @grammypanties08 It won't really "burn" you, it just has a burning feeling it you hold it too long because the extreme low temperature of the dry ice is actually freezing your skin, giving you something similar to frostbite.

  • @grammypanties08

    It doesnt 'burn' your skin

    It gives you frostbite

(The skin damage caused by frostbite is similar)

  • @grammypanties08 your an idiot your probably what? 12? you have no idea what your talking about. Same thing with liquid nitrogen, ya, its cold but you can touch it because theres an effect that i cant remember but it makes it so you can touch it.

  • @AwesomeMrCheese HA! yea im definitely 12..and i'd like to see you touch liquid nitrogen without anything happening. btw i took AP CHEMISTRY kid

  • @grammypanties08 dude you dont understand anything. i have touched liquid nitrogen. nothing happend. the leindon frost effect allows you to touch it god dumbass

  • @grammypanties08 only if you hold it for a while. you have like 30 seconds. trust me i was playing with it last week. but yes it will burn you

  • @grammypanties08 If you hold it for a few seconds it will essentially burn your skin black and kill it smartass

  • I couldn't fall into a pot of dry ice.

A pot of dry ice would be a solid hard block, so falling into it would be impossible.

    Clearly you've learned nothing.

  • Comment removed

  • yeh search "dry ice is it lethally dangerous" i can hold it with out moving for about 8 seconds before frostbite

  • LOL fail

  • crap lol didnt work that sucks

  • I wouldn't call CO2 "toxic." You can huff CO2 all day as long as you still give yourself enough oxygen.

Water isn't toxic, but you shouldn't try to breath it instead of oxygen either :P

  • That makes it toxic :)

  • LOL, me and my two friends used dry ice for a science project.

One of their sisters stepped on a piece, and screamed while she was trying to film us. O.o

And btw, whenever I put dry ice in a liquid, it just gave the fog effect; it never froze.

And it made our drinks nice and cold! xD

  • lol liquid nitrogen and do you thing that is cold and that it harts

  • lololololol funny...

  • thats cold try liquid nitrogin

  • ???

  • If you think that's cold just imagine what liquid helium would be like...

  • wear gloves you idiot

  • if you herd the dude he said i can hold it now meening it not gunna burn or stick to his hands retard

  • Not many people have a pair of heavy duty gloves at the beach you idiot.

  • NERDS who the fuck cares about why just fucking enjoy how it kinda looks cool

  • dry ice la

  • I wish we had a beach here in quiet (boring) Almaden, hell, i wish we just had ice cream trucks

  • mccoy wtf you stupid faggot its not dush it's douche. you are an idiot. go kill yourself.

  • Actually its not, I think you're thinking of the temp at which liquid nitrogen freezes. Dry ice can really be any temperature as long as its below -78.5 degrees Celsius. Thats the temp at which it sublimes from solid form to gas.

No, your hands dont turn purple just for touching it for a second, no it doesnt end the world or any of that crazyness.

Simply put, at "beach" temperatures, it sublimes. In the water, you can see it easier as gas bubbles. Urgh, stupid people...

  • ur the dumb ass. my mom works with liquid nitrogen. she burned her finger just touching it.

  • well ur mom is a dumbass too since she did it

  • lol no ur a dumbass...theres a difference between dry ice and liquid nitrogen...he's using dry ice..ur mom uses liquid nitrogen =)..with dry ice u get stuck to it u dont get burned

  • Burns can be caused by cold.

Go stick your hands on a block of dry ice, and tell me whether it burns. Duh.

  • true fact:dry ice is -210 degrees celcius

  • you are thinking of liquid nitrogen, and its stable at -197 degree celcius... at -210 degrees is freezes to a solid state...

  • wicked but weirl at the same time

  • you dumb dush you would have frost bit and your hands would turn purple for just tuching it for 1 sec your a fack!!!!!!

  • aahhhahhahahha, you are sooo stupid!!!!!!!its just -74c,you do get frost bits but not after one sec...ahhhahahhahahahah!!!!!!!

  • What the fuck is a fack?

  • don't forget the fifth state of matter, BES! boss Einstein condensate (exists at absolute zero temperatures)!

  • what happens when u touch dry ice?

cuz u were and people arent supposed to touch dry ice. what happens when you do?

  • you should of used a piece of wood to hold the dry ice. Wood is a good insulator. styrefoam works well too.

  • Y take the chance of gettin burned? I'd just wear gloves, duh

  • this is fake i heard if you touch dry ice you die

  • You don't die from just touching dry ice. It is just so cold that it freezes your skin to whate appears to be a burn. That is why some people call it Hot Ice. It is just Carbon Dioxide it a solid form. Its the same idea as regular water ice. If you touch water ice, do you die? I would hope not...

  • looks like a fake ocean, WITCHCRAFT

  • lol

  • alright you can bye it at the grocceri store and all you have to do is move it back and forth really fast and it dosent burn or frost bite you

  • where do you get dry ice?

  • How did he touch that !?

  • Read the video description.

  • Huh! I never knew that. I thought he was just magical or something. New science lesson everyday.

  • It should not be dry ice after 5 minutes. The water will go inside the ice then be wet ice (lol).

  • lol

  • so is it melting at all?

    that is sick BTW

  • Dry ice doesn't melt at atmospheric pressure, it sublimes.

  • what does that mean?

  • There are generally three states: Solid, liquid, gas. Water for example can be ice (solid), liquid (drinking water), or gas (water vapor or clouds). Water usually goes from a solid, to a liquid, and then to a gas in that order. Dry ice Sublimes which means that it goes from a solid state to a vapor state instantly (there is not liquid state). Melting is going from a solid state to a liquid state. Dry Ice skips the liquid and goes right to a gas. Its science!

  • dude.

    are you a genious?

  • Yes, yes I am ;)

  • i can tell!!!

    hholy shit!!!

    how old are you?!!?

help me with my homework please

  • dont forget the fourth state, plasma. Even though water doesnt go into a plasma, dont forget to mention it.

  • That is why I said "generally 3 states." If people don't even know now the basic states and what sublimation is, there is no point of throwing in the plasma state when that is clearly above their level of comprehension. Besides, you are only permitted 500+/- characters; plasma would be too much.

  • you were wrong in the fact that dry ice or CO2(s) skips the liquid phase It is impossible for CO2(l) to exist under a pressure of 1atm, however if you alter the pressure CO2 will indeed enter the liquid phase (at approximately >5.11atm being the lowest pressure it can exist in the water phase, over -54.6Celsius) it can also exist in all 3 phases at once (gas, liquid, solid) which happens at exactly 5.11atm and -54.6C or as a supercritical fluid (neither gas nor liquid) at very high temp/pressure

  • Yea, blah blah blah. The KID that asked what sublimation was is 12. He had no idea about anything. I know about all of that stuff you siad, but why would I waste my breath saying something complicated when I can just simplify it and get my point across. Technically, I'm not wrong. Everything I said was right; I just didn't go into an orgy of unneeded information like you did. CO2 skips the liquid phase in 1 atm of pressue which is as sea level. So thanks for your babble, but it was not needed :)
