Good reminder. Thanks. I put a marker at one edge of my work. When the marker is at the beginning of the row, I knit the knits and purl the purls. When the marker is at the end of the row, I knit the purls and purl the knits.
how they lie on the needle is something that you learn by looking at your stitches.
cast on and knit one row. every stitch has the v shape. turn it over and they look like little loops.
at 0:30 her first stitch is a knit. its not very clear but its a knit. the second and third stitches are easier to ID.
for example her third stitch is also a knit as it looks like the classic V shape. the second stitch is a purl as it has a round piece of wool in a circular shape.
Wrong side row: Purl the knit stitches and Knit the purl stitches.
Your verbal instructions are unclear.
"Do the opposite of how your stitch lying on the needle."
"Do exactly how the stitches lie on your needle."
What does this mean?
I can’t tell from the video, because it goes out of focus every time you move. And I can’t see, because you cover each stitch you are knitting with your left thumb.
I'll try to write this out after watching a few more times
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOO FAST... is it simply 1 knit, 1 purl? i used to klnit often, took classes and then i stopped after i had my girls so basically i'm trying to get back into it, soooo this was too fast and had minimal explanation...i could be completely off but thtats my opinion. any way to s;ow it down???
I agree with a previous poster, please show what you mean by "how they lie on the needle" how do you tell if the stitch is a knit stitch or a purl stitch? Slow down too. Thanks.
@genevieveivy the purl stitches have a bump in the front, and knit stitches have the bump in the back I believe. Check out theknitwitch views to get a more clear view on how to do the basics
you keep repeating the phrase" how they lie on the needle" but you never explain what you mean by that. You need to include a variety in your explanations.
I have watched four other videos and looked at two knitting books and everyone is different for moss stitch. Some actually say K1P2 etc.
why so different?
Yours is the easiest and turns out the prettiest! I knitted a long scarf with rib 2 sections and your moss stitch sections with baby yarn and number 7 needles casting on 100 stitches. Now all of my friends and family want one!
I can't tell...do you need an odd number of stitches or even number or does it even matter?
I have tried to do both seed and moss stitch (following you video, over and over, as i go) but for some reason I cannot get mine to look like either example...it endes up looking like a ribbled stockinette, the only way it could do that is if I was lining them up but I am alternating..I do not understand what im doing wrong..I even does it when I follow other videos..any advice?
@melissarenat Seed and Moss stitch can be very easy to mess up. For Seed stitch every row you do the opposite of how the stitch is lying on the needle. Row one you knit purl knit purl. Row two you knit the purls and purl the knits.
@melissarenat For Moss stitch you repeat the same pattern for two rows then do the opposite for two rows. Row one knit purl knit purl. Row two you knit the stitches how they are on the needle. So you would knit the knits and purl the purls. Then do the opposite after two rows.

I’m guessing seed stitch is a 2 row repeat:
Right side row: *KP* repeat
Wrong side row: Purl the knit stitches and Knit the purl stitches.
Is Moss stitch a 4 row repeat?
Row 1 (Right Side): *KP* repeat
Row 2 (Wrong Side): Knit the Knit stitches and Purl the Purl stitches
Row 3: *PK* repeat
Row 4: same as row 2

@ripcalwill Yes. You would repeat the same row twice, then do the opposite for the next two rows and then start over.
