@chupaisto1 No, this was NBC commentary recorded after the race was over. This wasn't broadcast live. I don't know why the audio sounds strange, like it's in a cave or something. Many of Wildturnip's old videos sound like that.
Was he injured? That was a hell of an impact, hope he was unhurt. Seems like he was unhurt on the first sight but the aftermath of the crash didn't look that good...
@NBAfanDallas He broke his right arm badly when the right side of the car sheared off against the wall. If you see footage of him later in the 80s he never straightens his right arm completely and the little finger is curled in the shape of a hook. No wonder he was in so much pain in the video.
boy that was a big shunt, i'm glad he was ok and fortunately he was not hit by anyone coming down the racetrack. That car spun arround so fast it's incredible.
Unfortunately, I didn't capture this video, and don't possess a recording of the race. I originally found this video on a message board about 7 or 8 years ago.
Man, I remember this race, taped it with a cassette recorder because we didn't have a VCR yet. I've listened to it about 500 times since then but never saw the NBC coverage since..
It's been nearly 30 years since and I can't thank you enough for posting this.. Question.. Where is the rest of the race?
AWESOME= COOL, GREAT, VERY GOOD ;D

It was an '82 March. The Chaparral 2K was numbered 4. The March, 5.

Jim Hall's team switched to a March in 1982 and retired the Chaparral. Is this a March or Chaparral that Rutherford is in?
