  • Great song by a great performer about a great subject though I wish I would have avoided reading the lame and ignorant comments.

  • Jesus promoted charity, not communism. The early Christians sold their possessions vountarily, and we must emulate that today, no doubt. God always cares about the heart. In wealth redistribution, all are forced to give involuntarily to bureacracy that sometimes doesn't do anymore to help the poor long-term than greedy bankers. Christ was primarily persecuted then for the same thing that He would be chided for in NYC today- that He is the Way the Truth and the Life. (He is risen, Woody!)

  • More evidence that socialism is just another fundamentalist religion.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh, Woody you got Jesus like no one else.

  • Jesus was communits indeed you morons. In the early days of Christianity, each time someone became a new member, he or she would sell his/her properties and join the christian COMMUNITY and they would have EVERYTHING in COMMON; that means there was no property amongst christian brethren and that is communism

  • And in one song, Woody's done a better job of summing up Jesus than the 20 years of church I've been to.

  • 16 people dont speak english

  • funny how most of these songs end up like a religious/political war in the comments. don't think that was woody goal...

  • @ThereAreNoUnionThugs wel yes and no, remember he was for from humanist or socialist because in the words of Paris reidhead, the end of all being isn't the happiness of man, it's the glorification of god

  • Every time I hear Guthrie I regain a little piece of my soul.

The only time Jesus got pissed was at the bankers, when they were ripping folks off in the temple. The evidence shows he'd be at OWS.

I agree Jesus was a socialist; the guy who says he isn't is using the Ten Commandments as if Jesus gave them. They were given by Moses and Jesus overwrought them with one commandment "do onto others as you would have them do onto you"- very socialist indeed.

request Guthrie on the radio everyday!

  • thumbs up if jebus brought you here. thank you contrary mary.

  • "Jesus is a socialist"

This explains the Ten Comandment's prohibition against stealing and against envy and "coveting" of your neighbor's property. There are only thre posibilities. One is that Jesus really is a socialist, but the Ten Comandments are full of crap. The second posibility is that the Ten Comandments are correct and Jesus is full of crap. The third posibility is that people (& Woody Guthrie) who believe that Jesus is a socialist are full of crap. I'm going with number three!

  • @SteveLLW Perhaps we'll all burn in hell for wearing clothes woven of two different fabrics then, that was in the OT too. Everyone knows that everything in OT is completely legit and carried over into Christianity.

  • This sounds alot like "Jesse James", I'm guessing it was lifted from this song.

  • Live after the flesh and you will reap destruction. Live after the spirit and you will reap eternal life. The letter kills, but the spirit gives life.

  • I'm a hippie. I think it would be great to lead a life like Jesus. Great song. Peace.

  • @youdevil6 Have posted various songs of Woodie's As you so rightly say, relevant today. The struggle has existed since the 1% have.

  • Make sure all of the "Occupiers" know that Guthrie is there. He always has been, and always will be.

  • I'm too old for this. Peace.

Now: Occupy Wall Street. Organize, work together, don't compete,

  • Peace to all persons of good intent.

  • Jesus died for preforming miracles on the sabbath.

  • @ApollosPythia Jesus died for performing live in front of black sabbath

  • @generalacc Black Sabbath are not anti christ. stupid bitch.

  • Amazing how this old song is still relevant to todays society.

This song was written in New York City

Of rich man, preacher, and slave

If Jesus was to preach what He preached in Galilee,

They would lay poor Jesus in His grave.

    Go Wall Street Protesters!

  • @hek7 Amen...

  • @hek7 Glad to see your post among favorites. And yes. hang in there Wall Street Protesters---they are out to crush you, tar and feather you, to have Bill O'Reilly, Fox News FASCIST, preach against you--but fight as best you can--Jesus was a Great Messenger---and your are representing the true Jesus, and NOT the fake Jesus that the powers try to make you bow down to---- here's to The Real Jesus, the one that Woody Guthrie sings of.

  • @TheyKnowNoShame

    Word.

  • this should be the occupy wall street anthem!

  • 12 people hate workin folks-and good music!

  • thank you woody guthrie!

  • I love this song because it's obviously true - Jesus was a left-wing revolutionary and radical the likes of which has rarely been seen in history. It's all there in the book. And righties who've appropriated the name and image of the man can't really respond to a song like this except with indignation. His enemies then are still the enemies of all good people today, even as they say they're Christians. The only nitpick is "hard-working". Christ quit his job to revolt. He was anti-work.

  • Jesus Christ was a MAN. Nailed him on A cross. smart man

  • if more people understood democracy and how easy communisms can be destroyed and how they are impossible. like how no communist country is really a communism anymore because they all accept capitalism just with no unions pretty much or job security or safety precautions so be thankful for what you have you say capitalists are greedy go live in Korea... i was blocked from commenting on other vids just like commies oppress the voice of reason

  • @deathcadilac

Capitalism, communism/socialism are economic systems. That's it. They can be totalitarian or not. The ideal is a communistic/socialistic, anarchistic society. Government is bad, capitalism is bad. Both are means of oppression and of the concentration of power. The closest any modern society has come to the ideal was Spain under the anarchists. Far from being a totalitarian government, it was wonderful - unless you were a capitalist, a fascist, or a priest.

  • you dont have to be christian to take the morals from the bible and use them to better the world. some of you are just assholes who hate people with faith because you hate yourself because you have no faith so you have to take your anger out on other people with faith and act like your better than us because you worship a tree! now you sound like an asshole i at least worship people not a plant. that being said catholics worship saints not god so screw catholic heathens :)

  • You don't have to be religious to see Jesus in a positive light. Early Christianity was a lot different from what it is now, especially in Rome. "Did he imagine at that moment, 200 million hypocrites would praise his name? And were he now to come down, those hypocrites would crucify him again". From Simon Finn's Jerusalem.

And don't get me wrong, I completely reject the idea of the Abrahamic God(s) and organised religion as a whole, I just think Jesus was an O.K. dude.

  • Never forget

  • Only used as a reference to a story as a parallel.

  • Get off the Jesus garbage. A funny fable.

  • @bgaudrea go back to your cave u atheist extremist

  • @1billion1deaths1 I think you're the caveman ... only reason you'd look to a phony space daddy. I'm in no way an extremist because I have faith in science and not a 'scripture' that is full of hate and holes.

  • @bgaudrea Like I said go back to your cave extremist , come back till u have evidence against a creator hahaha

  • @1billion1deaths1 "Evidence against a creator"

So it is the job of the skeptic to disprove things that likely don't exist. Okay. Show me evidence that zeus doesn't exist...because he does. Aliens are real too...you can't prove they aren't.

See how this is a problem? The burden of proof lies on those making the claim. If you are making the claim that the universe has some sort of "creator" then it is your job to provide evidence of this claim...otherwise skeptics won't believe you. Sorry.

  • @goonodeath Where is your evidence of no creation???please do share. This is not a problem , to your understanding its a problem to my understanding is very simple. Thers tons of proof of a creator starting off with the fruit of the tree of knowledge good and bad via to this understanding comes great equality. But you do not understand because your not me, Iam self evidence of a creator threw love, hope, faith, memorie, dreams, thoughts ,sound and equality Its very simple to me. Good luck hahaha

  • @1billion1deaths1 i am unsure of how the existence memory, dreams, thoughts, hope, love, equality, faith or SOUND (seriously?) is evidence of the existence of a creator. explain?

  • @aestheticsofbricks Yes this understanding is born into humans via the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and bad. The evidence that everyone is "created" equal and love being the catalyst for them doing good, With no god concept ther is no moral truth . Love becomes no more then a biochemical illusion without a god prior intent, A non intent chance origin of life is loveless and pointless but humas feel love and purpose,"humanity is the evidence of the soul and God" logical evidence.

  • @1billion1deaths1 Religion was invented because we are self aware, not visa versa.

  • @a1rh3add religion was invented? belief was invented? Belief is born into mankind under the undestanding of right and wrong.

  • @1billion1deaths1 that is the weakest, least sound, least literate, sensical and grammatically correct argument i have ever seen.

  • @aestheticsofbricks again "understanding" of "frequency" is very much , I mean extremely much not comrehended in this debate ." Lack of understanding"

  • @1billion1deaths1 I DON'T NEED TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE AGAINST SOMETHING YOU MORON. That is not how logic works. When YOU make a claim it is YOUR job to prove it.

And the "evidence" you just provided is a joke. It's very simple to you because you don't understand critical thought and evidence based belief because you were brainwashed from the time you grew up and don't know any different.

  • @bgaudrea You shouldn't have "faith" in science. Science is all about ditching faith and using rational thought to solve problems. Religious people have faith...scientific skeptics do not...we have reason.

  • Thank you for posting er...uploading, the song as it was sung by the actual songwriter. Sometimes there are subtle differences in tone that carries a different message. I sure like Woody Guthrie. Smart feller. :)

  • Lordy!

  • In the Bible Jesus is missing for eighteen years and they didn't even bother to look for him. If I was missing for under a week, people would be worried about what happened for me.

  • @MrVeganit

Yeah well Jesus didn't fucking live in 20th century america. It was during the roman times and the roman aristocrats and political figures were corrupt.

  • Meh, Jesus was a common charlatan and degenerate Jewish criminal who got what he deserved when he died on the cross and stayed dead!

    Roman Justice! Sic Semper Tyrannis!

    SPQR

  • @PaganDeathKnight We can't all worship cool gods like you! Like Pluto and Mars who had good messages about tolerance and understanding regardless of one's own religion or lack thereof in the 21st century. They weren't petty or vindictive at all... No sir!

You're also really edgy and cool with the "SPQR." Wikipedia must be a godsend. Ooopppps. Pun intended? Wouldn't want to offend a sensitive "pagan" like you would I? Say hi to mom she's my favorite commenter on your FB. Thanks for the YT block!

  • I bet most anti-Socialists don't even know what the term means. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if many of them would actually BENEFIT from socialism.

  • @ukulazy you either care or dont

  • @acrolith01 It wasnt the rich that layed Jesus in his grave, but both the rich n the poor. It was the greedy poor people whom the rich payed. They finally got their share of the rich man. The left and the right both killed the king. Both are greedy. Both are murderers. It wasn't the rich that shouted crucify him, It was everyone. Even peter denied him. left wing, right wing, a bird needs both wings to fly.

  • Jesus was a child molester that didn't get found out till he was 32, and finally the boys came forward, 48 of them, some lying of course, but god never said squat because he wanted to torture his son to death with the aid of soldiers, so that whosoever would believe that bullshit would be game for more molesting and who knows what??. Can i get a AMEN???!

  • @geehuckwow

When Jesus touched people, he healed them, plain and simple. He was healing them. The romans just called it molestation because they could not deal with the awesome power of Jesus.

  • Woody took this from a jesse james song, woody was a classic!!!!!!

  • 12 people are too rich to like this song

  • Christ wasn't a dem, republican, socialist, communist, etc. He was perfect. He taught we should love one another as he loved us and he taught that the government should look to God. It's because of Christ love that we are to look out for our fellow man, because if there wasn't a God or Christ it would be every man for himself, the fittest win and to heck with everyone else.

  • I think Woody forgot to say Judas repented

  • @Geisttanzer

Asking for forgiveness is required for repentance. Judas killed himself, a mortal sin for which there could be no repentance, and having never asked for forgiveness from Jesus. He repented unto himself, not his wronged party. That is not sufficient according to Jesus teachings. Jesus himself even declared Judas was damned, calling him the "Son of Perdition".

  • This is one of the most modern and revolutionary song i've ever heard.

  • @cinosofo I love that you said that! Awesome.

  • @AlaricxMalgraith like your comment very much! He also taught his band of ramblers to get food and lodging wherever they went--if any of his writing were extent it'd likely be Canaan on 3 magic tricks a day, rather than how to ride two donkeys at once ( w/out looking like a jerk

  • Reminds me of Pier Paolo Pasolini's stark and humanist film about Jesus.

  • My favourite version is Bob Dylan's. This is still pretty amazing though.

  • Jesus hung out with 12 working class dudes, the homeless and prostitutes. He was more like me than the he was like the Pope.

  • @AlaricxMalgraith that is the most spiritually profound thing i've ever heard.

  • This song makes me have more respect for Jesus than the Bible ever will.

  • While Jesus did tell us to give to the poor he didn't hate rich people and wouldnt encourage class warfare. He would want us all to follow him regardless of our financial situation

  • Jesus was a socialist, no doubt about it!

  • Take that hippies. At least ol' Woody knew the score.

  • Can't help but feel that this sounds like the Ballad of Jesse James.

  • @TopPark That's folk for you. Or music really, my friend showed me a thing of the hardcore band converge plagiarizing themselves (probably unintentionally).

  • Man, all this debate about republicans and democrats, jesus being a socialist or what the hell ever. I'm thankful I'm a reasonist.

  • @oleumfold Jesus being an Anarquist for shure!!!

  • this song really works in 2011 I like it...Jesus was a good guy and men have made him look other wise...He never caused any lack of peace...He never promoted any violence war or evil...

  • Lynching of Laura & Lawrence Nelson. In the event, no one was charged. Among those involved was Charley Guthrie, father of folk singer Woody Guthrie, who was born a yr later. Charley's role is uncertain but he appears 2 have attended as an observer or active participant, and he went on 2 become an enthusiastic member of the Ku Klux Klan. The incident was commemorated by Woody Guthrie in 3 songs, High Balladree, Bloody Poll Tax Chain, & Don't Kill My Baby & My Son, also called Old Dark Town.

  • It's sickening to see how divided we all are, commenting on a folk song about Jesus, debating politics. Calling him a "lefty" and what not. Like seriously, just listen to Woody and chill, and soak in the words, and not be so ignorant about everything

  • "A camel will sooner pass through the eye of a needle before a rich man shall enter Heavan," Jesus said.

"Blessed be the poor," Jesus said.

"Den of harlots!" Jesus cried to the money changers before beating them with knotted cords.

Yeah, seems like a lefty to me.

  • @327elijah Certainly a radical who would be among the poor and downtrodden.

  • @327elijah

    Jesus is epic...:D

  • @327elijah I think those quotes prove that Jesus was a radical man of love who was "down to earth." To use the right /left spectrum seems idiosyncratic.

  • @MrBlackers

    Yes...

But the issue are those who like "follow" His teachings, yet conduct themselves diametrically opposite...

And, politically, Jesus was closer to the left than anything else...

On the other side; You have half-wit morons who swear in Jesus's name and chant Nazi crap like "Kill all 'em towel heads" - That's shear idiocy and would be funny if wasn't sad, as Jesus wasn't a white boy born in Texas...

  • @Orthodoxcrusader Well, I'm just not in favor of the left-right spectrum. Yes, Jesus has many "followers" on the right who are ignorant, but the same can be said for people on the modern left. Issues like abortion and the death penalty are taken from the left in ways that don't identify with a typical interpretation of Jesus' teachings. But yes, overall, Christ was more of a "leftist" in the sense that many beliefs of the left involve social responsibility, social justice, etc.

  • @MrBlackers That's cause he was above the spectrum. He is the only rightful 'King' mankind should have both because of His heritage from King David, being the Messiah and God incarnate. A lot of leftists though don't practice what they preach either. Many rich leftists hold onto their riches as fiercely as the right. Both sides in Christianity just give lip service to God. Living like Christ just isn't as fun as owning a Lexus I guess.

  • @MrBlackers

    Well...

That's just classification in which everyone, except completely apolitical individuals, belong to.

Yet, it doesn't mean you have to agree with a political party or an organization claiming to be "left" or "right"...

Although I'm not sure what you were aiming for with the abortion and death penalty part...

The first is undeniably a matter of personal choice, and the second(in my personal opinion) sometimes an appropriate measure to be taken...

    I agree with your conclusion.

  • @327elijah Jesus said It would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a neddle than a rich man to enter the kingdom Mat 19;23 Not impossible just harder. With great riches comes great responsibility.

Was it Mat 5;2 you were thinking of when quoting the words "blessed are the Poor'?

It really seemed to be not about money but the poor in Spirit. Those who know their own spiritual weaknesses when compared to Gods Holiness.

  • @327elijah Yep: a dead lefty. You can lie restful: it won't happen again in our life time.

  • @327elijah

Sorry, which part of the Bible did you get that third quote from? The one about beating money changers with knotted cords? I'm pretty sure Jesus never beats anyone up in the Bible. i think that would be pretty badass, but i think you made it up.

  • @bebopalula2006

Well noted. Knotted cords were not used in the Temple. That was an unintentional misquote on my part. However, Jesus did trash the market and chased out the merchants as is written in Mathew 21:12. "And Jesus went to the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves."

Either way, my point remains the same.

  • I actually think Jesus would want the tax base to be broadened so all the poor moochers can finally pay their fair share. He would also want the moneychangers to be completely unregulated and to let their wild speculation endanger the average citizen.

I am also POSITIVE that he would want us to be constantly and cyclically at war with the world.

Wait, that's actually the exact OPPOSITE of what he would want...

    God Bless America

  • What an amazing song by an amazing man.

I spend a lot of time in Oklahoma and I laugh every time I see or hear Oklahomans praise him. Clearly the only the only things they know about him is that he was born in the state and wrote "This Land Is Your Land". Woody's politics could not be more different than that of the average Oklahoman today. If the people of Oklahoma realized Woody wrote songs like this, they would disown him.

  • This song is not about Communism or labor unions or any of that. It's a cry for economic equality and social action.

  • This reminds me of that song about Jesse James....

  • Then the song Amazing Grace gives us great pleasure to hear if their full strength and courage.

  • there is easy differences for that comment above

    Obama higher aproval rating

    Cares about poor

    Gay Rights

money made by law and teaching

  • WATCH the VIDEO on You Tube titled...

" The War on Christmas - new HD version "

  • Woody Guthrie was for the UNIONS, not communism. The greedy companies are to blame for the unions, not communism. Too bad our whole world is like this now. Seriously, about the only places you can buy stuff is a local farmers market or something. All of the rest of the stores are HUGE CORPORATIONS that suck the blood right out of the people WORLD WIDE.

  • Can we deduce from the picture of Woody and his guitar, that he was using his "machine" to kill people (even if he describes the unnamed people as "facsists")?

  • All I am saying is if another man challenged me, we will have to have a shitting contest.

  • Love the Song. I want the truth.

  • Jesus was an Anarchist.

  • Comment removed

  • Woody Guthrie attempts to turn the Gospels into a class warfare manefesto. Ah, whadaya expect from that era, when they thought Joe Stalin's Soviet Union was a God-blessed utopia. That foolishness was the biggest "Homer D'OH!" of the 20th Century. Now, we know better, though some still refuse to see.....

  • @SteveLLW

While Christ isn't "for the workers", he repeatedly, explicitly condemn the wealthy for being wealthy. He even tells them they're not going to Heaven. There's no way to spin this. It's in the book. And what an Authoritarian socialist regime has to do with Woody Guthrie, Jesus, this song, or libertarian socialism/ anarchism, I really don't know. Neither do you. And I'm pretty sure no one thought the Soviet Union was "God-blessed" anything, seeing as how God was banned there. Idiot.

  • @cauchamar The Old and New Testement condemned both the accumulation of wealth for wealth's sake AND the envy of the wealth of others. Two out of the Ten Commandments prohibit not only theft of other's private property, but envy of other's private property, as well. Jesus Christ warns againts becoming too attached to the "goodies" of this world and too detached from humanity. Woody Guthrie thought he might have found utopia in communism and many fools think communism is Christ-like.

  • @SteveLLW Yeah, that fool Saint Peter thought communism was Christ-like, so much so that in fact he killed a man over it with his words. You're a fool, read your fucking bible, go to "Acts" and read, read, read your ignorant ass off. Simply google "Communism and the bible" and you'll find multiple references to communism. Remember Marx's "Each according to his ability, each according to his need"? Well, the bible pretty much sums this idea up in "Acts" of the saints.

  • @harryit Since you have judged me, I'll judge you. You are either and ignorant jackass, or a liar. The Acts of the Apostles references SOME early Christians VOLUNTARILY living in what could be called small communes. Karl Marx's stinking manifesto makes it MANDITORY, but he failed to address how to make people comply. Don't worry, Stalin took care of that with his GULOGS, which is where your envious ass belongs! Read the TEN COMMANDMENTS!!!!

  • @SteveLLW Communism happens spontaneously, it can't happen if someone forces it. Social and material conditions will lead to the downfall of crapitalism and communism will take its place. saying that they VOLUNTARILY lived in communism is a blatant lie, Peter forced it onto them. He KILLED a man. That whole section of acts basically say's all that BELIEVED were together and had all things in common, namely communism.

  • @harryit Which is it -- communism happens spontaneously, or communism is forced upon us by Peter ("who killed a man" who refused, I take it)? Communism is envy in it's political form, that's all. Leukimia happens "spontaneously". Saying that about communism is meaningless. Anyway; if God really did want us to steal from each other and call it "communal living", then why the commandments forbiding theft and envy? Either God is full of $hit, or you are. I'm thinking it ain't God who's full of it.

  • @SteveLLW The ten commandments aren't written by god, they're written by Moses, the same Moses who killed people after smashing the first ten commandments in a rage, but I'm full of shit! Peter killed the guy because he stole the money that Peter thought belonged to the community. Communism isn't "Forced upon us by Peter". Nobody has to die for communism to exist, the rich would rather die than give up their ill-gotten goods though, so it does.

  • @harryit "Nobody has to die for communism to exist, the rich would rather die than give up their ill-gotten goods though, so it does."

That's like a rapist saying to a woman, "Nobody has to die for me to have my fun, but if you don't get undressed and give me your ill-gotten body, then you'll die, but Heh, it'll be your fault."

Christianity does not allow for murder to take the property of others. So, yes, in fact, you ARE full of shit.

  • Okay, first off this is nothing like rape at all. This is MURDER and you don't have to look too far back in American history to see who starts murdering who when the American working class demand they get higher wages. Look up the West Virginia Mine war of 1912-1913 and tell me who started the killing? This isn't the only case obviously, but if you want more I'll be glad to find em for you.

  • @harryit The bottom line is that Woody Guthrie was a naive dork who ignored the deadly results of communism and, instead, wrote silly songs implying that Jesus Christ was and is a communist. Woody was just an ill-informed dweeb who could strum a guitar, that's all.

  • @SteveLLW Jesus wasn't a communist, he was a socialist. I know that is inconvenient for your conservative agenda but he did say "It is more likely for a camel to pass throught theye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into heaven." If that isn't socialist, then socialism doesn't even exist. Not that I am endorsing socialism, but it's still the truth.

  • @murderousbastard83 "It is more likely for a camel to pass throught theye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into heaven."

To which the Apostles replied, "Then how can ANYONE be saved?!." The point being that even owning even a pair of sandals makes you rich compared to the man with bare feet. Jesus Christ replied that it is possible through the Holy Spirit.

Look, modern, State-mandated and enforced socialism, communism, marxism, etc. is not what Jesus Christ was all about.

  • @SteveLLW I agree. But he definitely seemed to have socialist values. Communism never works though. Just for the small amount that benefits from it. Like the government. I'd go as far as to say the government should stay the fuck out of our personal lives as well.

  • @murderousbastard83 "I agree. But he definitely seemed to have socialist values. Communism never works though."

The Ten Commandments do not say, "socialism" to me. Out of the ten, two establish private property rights. Jesus Christ just wants us to be generous ON OUR OWN to help unfortunate people, that's all. He was not about powerful government controling us. Also; communism's goal is to enslave the masses by duping the masses. In that regard, it "works", because it achieves its goal.

  • @SteveLLW Doesn't seem to work for the people like it promises to though. And we should be generous, with or without the fear of hell. Because you think of it, if the only reason you are a good person is due to the fear of hell, then that doesn't make you a good person deep down. It's just another selfish reason. I don't think most people need religion to trivk them into being good. Just the selfish people. Lol.

  • @murderousbastard83 Just remember; if there's no God, then there's no natural purpose for being "good", because Mother Nature doesn't recognise "good", or "bad". Darwinism seeks no justice.

  • @SteveLLW It's our responsibility as human being's to create justice. There is no God to dictate that for us, we have to dictate it ourselsves. We have our own natural purpose for being good.

  • @murderousbastard83 ..........if there is no God, then clearly the "right" thing for me to do is to steal whatever I can get my hands on, step on others to get ahead, sabatage others, if it benefits me, etc. You see, that helps my genepool and my genepool thrives because of that behavior. Helping others does not help my genepool. Saving people from a burning building does not help my genepool. See how nature works? Trust me; a lot of people should be thankful that I believe in God, instead.

  • @SteveLLW Ha ha.. I see your point. But I would like to think that you would be a good person without the fear of hell. I try to be. Whether God exists or not.

  • @murderousbastard83 I already know God exists. It was proven to me in a bizarre way, but I cannot prove it to you. In any event; the vast majority of human beings experience at least some guilt for bad things they've done. The few who don't are called sociopaths. I don't believe any other creature in nature experiences guilt. That "conscience" comes from God.

  • @SteveLLW That's one school of thought on the matter. I believe we have a built in consceince programmed in us in order to help our species survive. Bad wiring would account for the sociopaths.

  • @murderousbastard83 Ah, but Darwin's axiom: "Survival of the Fittest" states that the ingrained goal is the survival of an individual animal's gene pool, NOT survival of the species as a whole. The fastest zebra evades the lioness and gets to reproduce. The slow zebra dies off without reproducing. This can be observed in Nature quite readily. The opposite theory is not really observable... so.... in my view, a human "conscience" driving us to help others is supernatural, not natural.

  • @SteveLLW I respect your point, but in order for a individual to survive the whole of the species must also survive as well. If there is no human race there is no humans. Individual humans. Whatever the reasoning we have a conscience I know we both agree, it's a damn good thing we have it. It makes me feel good to do nice things for people. Not because I am afraid of a supposed afterlife, but because we need to put more positivity in the world. It's starving or it.

  • @murderousbastard83 I don't believe in bad wiring, madness or indeed any other deviations from what we have come to deem the norm. People are people and some get manipulated whilst others don't. Society tells us that to kill is wrong etc, but these are rules created by one man for others to follow. What bothers me is that we lock some of these folk up and pump them full of mind altering drugs until they show that they are towing the line.

  • @FeltTipOfYourThingy I also share your distrust for psychotropic drugs. Just not your view on the metapysical.

  • @murderousbastard83 Oh for God's Sake, SOCIALISM and COMMUNISM are two completely DIFFERENT approaches to Government. A lot of great Americans were Socialists. The only reason people are so afraid of such a simple word is because the former Soviet Union was called "The Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics" Their totalitarian government did not resemble a Socialist government in any way.

  • @bangwhistle69 I agree.

  • @bangwhistle69 Socialism is a benign tumor. Communism is a malignant tumor. Benign tumors usually end up turning malignant. Therefore; it is wise to remove all tumors. What started out as semi-voluntary "P.C." speach codes in Great Britain is now turning into cruel laws instituded by totalitarians in government. Now, you can be severely fines and/or jailed for saying the "wrong" thing there. British socialism is turning into communism. Give the government an inch and it'll take your life!

  • @bangwhistle69 and of course China and Russia are not examples of either. Maoism and Leninism do not equate to Marxism. The Amish are communal, the French are somewhat Marxist. China and Russia never made the qualifications to enter into Marxist theory.

  • @bangwhistle69 ya but both socialism and communism use a similar economic plan with government control over buildings and buisnesses with little or no public property making the economy terrible especialy with equal pay for all you should be payed for the work you do and if your ethics are bad the government shouldnt have to bail you out with wellfare you should die on the streets like the asshole you are so no they arent the same communism just has a dictator socialism CAN be democratic.

  • @SteveLLW the commandments were for what we call law and today that just seems to be used for other humans to play judge.. but you can't hide from the truth because the truth is all there is.

  • @rectangle12341 "the commandments were for what we call law and today that just seems to be used for other humans to play judge."

Where does the commandments state that "John Doe is guilty"? The 10 Commandments state God's law. We prosecute people who steal from others and commit murder based upon............(GASP!), the 10 Commandments. Would you have us let murderers and thieves go about their deeds, as they please?

  • @SteveLLW i don't do anything about murderers so i guess they can go about their deeds.. what do you personally do about murder ? man wanted to make the law for punishment instead of obedience... and the commandments don't say anything about john doe that is where you are confused it's about you not anyone else you failed not john doe. why do you want punished ???

  • @rectangle12341 Murderers must pay the price for murder. Jesus Christ did not bother to reply to the murderer who was crucified next to Him. Jesus just ignored him, while the creep died.

  • @SteveLLW but Christ didn't have him murdered as punishment that is just someone else committing another murder is it not ? you can see the example without understanding like on a track where the starting line and the finish line are the same place am i wrong..? you didn't justify your opinion the last 2 sentences are true but they aren't related to the first sentence are they? why would you say that

  • @rectangle12341 A professed Christian must stive to follow the example of Jesus Christ, must he not? Therefore; if a comvicted murderer whines about the death penalty and tries to bargain his way out of it, etc., then we must follow the example of Jesus Christ -- ignore the creep and let him die. That's called justice. If the guy, on the other hand, repents and accepts his punnishment, then we pray for his salvation, but he still dies. That is following Christ's example.

  • @SteveLLW you win steve you said jesus the most so you win the argument. eye for an eye every time.

  • @rectangle12341 I see; the blunt force of my argument was too much to handle. The simple truth is; Jesus Christ was/is not the "Woodstock hippie, kumbaya, Jeohn Lennon-esque" dribbling liberal that Woody Guthrie and his friends would have us believe.

  • @SteveLLW i never said he was did woody? listen.

  • @rectangle12341 Woddy Guthrie:

"Jesus hates the rich man, so the rich men put him to death over money."

It's total crap with nice guitar playing.

  • @SteveLLW So...what is your conception of Jesus, then? So far I've gleaned that he endorses the death penalty, likes rich people, hates hippies, what else?

  • @vopher Jesus Christ calls on us to follow Him. So who is He? The Bible paints a pretty good picture. He: wants us love God with all our hearts and minds and to love one another as He has loved us. So,....a convicted murderer is to be loved and prayed for, but NOT neccessarily spared the consequences of his actions.

Woody Guthrie liked communism, but he never joined theCommunist Party. He just sang silly songs trying to portray Jesus Christ as a proto-communist of sorts. He was simply wrong.

  • @SteveLLW where does it say jesus hated anyone? (except in your fake quote)

  • @rectangle12341 Correction: according to Woody Guthrie, the "rich" hated Jesus so much that they put Him to death over money and that the "rich" of New York City would have killed Him, too. Any reading of the Bible from any angle leads the reader to conclude that the theocratic power structure at the time pushed the Romans to kill Him, because they were jealous of His ability to gather followers and He was a threat to their religious and political power. Sorry, Woodie; It wasn't over money.
