Catching up on vids and even in hind-sight, with the winners already known, this was a great summary and analysis of the movies and actors. Well done and great prediction!!
Thanks Danny! Just seeing the buzz around Slumdog before the Oscars and how well it did with a few of the other award shows, it felt like a real shoe in. Luckily, it was well worth it! :)
Ha ha! Thanks man! I was sitting when I made this video and am sitting as I respond to it! I try to get busy as it keeps things fun and interesting! :)
wow I really wish I would have known that they do that I would have loved to see all 5 movies at once. I bet it was fun. Thanks for the run down. Have a good one~
I enjoyed all the movies too, but I think the most original and interesting movie was Slumdog Millionaire, so I was happy to see it won the oscar! It was a good year for greatness in film! :-)
I thought Sean Penn was excellent as Harvey Milk, (bringing Harvey Milk back to life), but I thought the oscar should have gone to Frank Langella as Nixon! He was amazing! :-)
I haven't seen any of those movies AND I totally missed the Oscars! I don't know if I have been in some strange walking coma or something, but I didn't even know they were going to be on! Yeesh!
Gary, I hope you went to the bookies and put a bet on. All great movies, but yes, I agree, Slumdog Millionaire deserved the plaudits and the wins. I thought that Mickey Rourke might have won it for best actor in "The Wrestler" but it was a tough one.
I also thought that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was very similar to Forrest Gump.
I didn't think it immediately, but about two weeks after I saw it, I saw that Forrest Gump was on T.V., and I started thinking about Benjamin Button, and it just seemed to click.
ANTHONY RAPP! Has anyone told you you look like him??? I am sorry man, but like... whoah... you look like one of my heroes. :)
I liked MILK, but I had a hard to relating, so it was more of a spectator movie for me. The rest sounds interesting. :) I still have to watch my first episode of LOST- anywhere online I can catch a free episode?
Great summery. I also think Slumdog Millionare is going to take the win. I haven't seen The Reader, it was one I wanted to see after seeing the trailer but it somehow slipped under my radar when it was out in theaters.
Good reviews Gary. That's pretty cool that they show all five Oscar movies on one pass. The Reader was also my favorite movie of the five and I hope Kate Winslett wins Best Actress for her role. I didn't get to see The Wrestler or The Visitor but of the movies I did see, I would agree that Sean Penn deserves Best Actor. We'll know tonight.
Good stuff! Interesting point you bring up about the time-shifting and/or historical qualities of all the films. I agree Slumdog Millionaire will win, and I think it deserves it. I too enjoyed all five of the films, although I would probably have picked Revolutionary Road over Benjamin Button as a Best Picture nominee. I think Penn will win Best Actor and Winslet will get Best Actress for The Reader (although I liked her Revolutionary Road performance even better.) We'll see tonight!
5 movies for $30 oh wow! That's a good deal. That's like getting 2 movies free. Thanks for the rundown. I thought that Winslet got an advanced award for The Reader and she gushed on and on about it...I'll have to look for a clip of that. Oh ok, she got two Golden Globes for Revolutionary Road and The Reader and 1 Oscar nomination for The Reader.
That's very funny you say "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" was very much like Forrest Gump. Since my sister said the same thing when she saw it. Though she loved it!
I have only seen "The Reader" and loved it! That movie was done beautiful with a great story.
Nice Lava Lamp! Your rolled out of bed look is good. Seriously, your hair is awesome. Sean Penn is really good, Frank Langella is good too. Ralph Finnes will always be Voldemort to me, I can't see him in other roles without thinking back to that one. Kate will win for sure. Buttons will win for make up, but you cant cut out any of Brad Pitt, sacrelidge! Have not seen slumdog yet. Its next on my list.
From everything I have heard Slumdog Millionaire is the best of all of those movies. However given the recent Prop 8 stuff I would say Gay Rights might take special consideration in the award shows.
On the HST. Channel, there's a story about Harvey Milk way BEFORE the movie. That's my only gripe. Milk wasn't the only one killed that day by White. Sad story.
Almost everyone who has seen it says that BB is just like FG. Amazing.
Frank Langella played Nixon. I saw him on stage in NYC when I was a kid. He dated Whoopi for a long time. Can't wait to see Milk & The Reader. You need a history lesson on Nixon? I'll teach ya.. LOL..
I really want to see Milk, but after your reviews I am leaning towards watching The Reader first. I wonder who will win tonight at the Oscars... Sometimes they shock you.
Slumdog Millionaire is definitely going to win. But I'd rather see Milk win. I think either Sean Penn or Mickey Rourke will win Best Actor. And Kate Winslet should win Best Actress, especially since she didn't win for Eternal Sunshine.
I should imagine that was a long, but enjoyable day.
I'm not surprised you got bits of the plots mixed up, on the day. That's a lot to take in all at once.
I heard a piece on the radio here yesterday saying about how all of those movies come from other media, none of them are original ideas. They're either books, a short story or a play.
It appears there are no original ideas in Hollywood any more :)
The Dark Knight should have been nominated it got 4 stars

I seen under half of Slumdog Millionaire and thought it was a fantastic movie.
Sean Penn seemed to have done a great job in Milk but I've yet to see it.
Benjamin Button was a touching story, very unique.
Great Review!
All the best,

Thanks for posting your reviews and thoughts. Hopefully you won't have to drive so far next year. How crowded was that auditorium?
Everyone should see 'Slumdog Millionaire' with the knowledge that it is not the musical that the TV commercials are making it out to be. Go now...

Good job Gary. I've heard alot of people talk about Dark Knight, and how it should be nominated for more than just Heath Ledger.
If Slumdog does win, it will be one of the few times that a film won on the merit of it's content, and not because a big name is attached to it.
