  • this is a good recording but i just heard a flawless recording of Callas's for this exact aria and she pulls my hearts strings

  • Splendide, absolutely amazing, Magnifique interprepation of the Traviata.

Maria always the original and unique. Breathtaking......

  • She is truly LA DIVINA! And yes, the only Violetta that could be measured to hers is Zeani's. And Maria and Virginia had really a profound respect for each other. I heard Zeani in her interview with Jelinek (here on YT, posted by Charlotte) speak of Callas only with highest praises!

  • Traviata died with her in Paris, on Sept. 16th 1977. Nobody will ever sing that way again. Never.

  • I saw Callas in the theater, one of my biggest dissapointments was her voice was little.

In audio tapes she is another dissapointment mostly, her voice was too many flaws to stand and her interpretations alwayas leave me with a sort of smell of nothing, she sings everything the same , like weeping

  • @misterturro

Yes, after she bcame very thin, sometimes her voice did seem small. Yet on another night in the same series of performances it could be ample again.

  • Maria was a REAL artist. Singing with her SOUL above all. She really was a MEDIUM through whom this special force that rules EVERYTHING, showed humanity the greatness of ART - MUSIC and human potentials.

  • Elle est absolument exceptionnelle!

  • One only has to listen to this to understand the fascination with Callas. What can be said that has not already been said? She put everything of herself into her singing. Everything laid bare, nothing held back. She IS Violetta. She makes everything work for her, the imperfections in her voice do not detract, she makes them further delineate the character. She may have been imperfect as a human being, but she was a goddess when she sang.

  • Only the dogs heard that really high E (I could be mistaken; I think it's an E, but I could be wrong)... Maria Callas can sing.

  • Callas' and Claudia Muzio's interpretations of this aria are the best. Congratulations on the paintings: they are beautiful.

  • I'm in tears from her spoken words alone...when she starts to sing I fear I'll crumble

  • Superb singing and such grace in her emotions through her voice.Excellent! Maria Callas will remain unrivaled in La Traviata.

  • C'est une superbe vidéo et un bel hommage. Merci !!

  • This video is the best another favorite is....

Maria Callas, Sings "Violetta Aria" from La Traviata

  • What shall I say... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! La Divina in one of her best roles - and WOW, again these REALLY REALLY beautiful pictures! They really give an impression of a great live performance! Thanks for sharing these fantastic works of art with us! You are so talented! 1000*

  • Virginia Zeani and Maria Callas were, for me at least, the finest Violettas. They had enormous respect for each other's work and it was wonderful to have two contrasting, but truly great performers, singing in the same era. Zeani is now posted, also with drawings, in her astonishing, unrehearsed Covent Garden Debut. Do listen for, unlike Callas, she was cruelly neglected by the major record companies and I am trying to redress the balance.

  • Great.Virginia Zeani had a terrific voice and was very beautiful. I remember being astonish with her Aida and her looks.

    Unfourantely,she was very well neglected.

  • Erm...unintelligible Italian? Her diction is much clearer than Ponselle's. And I'd not call Callas's voice shrill or stringy. Metallic, yes. But there are dozens upon dozens of pretty, velvety voices. But there's only ONE La Divina!

  • yes, but that is not only up to Callas but to the world to decide! and the world has decided that Callas is the best!!!

  • Beautiful, beautiful paintings. How lucky you are to have experienced one of the most heartfelt performances ever!

  • Thank you for your kind comments. I put the paintings on line to share my still vivid memories of a wonderful, most moving performance.

  • Dear Charlotte,Callas was never small bevor 63.I admired Maria at La Scala 3 time as Violetta, and after Bolena,Pirata,Lucia,Norma.....Medea.Of course, when she had more of weight, she was exceptional. But Maria's art is musicality and rendition. Here, she, unique, sings Addio as walzer of death.Attention please to rhytm and tempo by Callas, not only as Carmen.Caballè and Sutherland ? not ever perfect!

  • How thrilling to see Callas at La Scala. I saw her as Violetta in 1958, Medea 1959 and Tosca 1964 plus concerts all in London. The memories are as vivid as ever- but she really was very thin in 1958! A friend heard her as Norma in Trieste in 1954, when she was more substantial, and said it was the greatest performance of anyone he ever heard. Yes, her musicality and sensitivity are unmatched.

  • Thank you very much, lots of feeling. Nice!

  • Thank you for your Callas tribute video. Did you also hear and see her live? She was amazing and the memories are still so vivid.

  • Thank you very touching.

  • I am glad you also enjoyed the video with drawings of Virginia Zeani as Violetta. They were contemporaries and colleagues, and each admired the other's work.

  • Thank you charlotte, very very good!
