@alharper420 In norwegian: Jeg legges i min vugge nu.
@alharper420 In English: I put in my crib now. Sometimes crying sometimes laughing. My mother has for me care, pains, anxiety and inconvenience Ref: Sleep now sleep now in the name of Jesus, Jesus, keep the child. My mother singing to sleep, my nanny sings the same, my brother sings "you sleep" my sister sings "you sleep". Ref, To be countinued.....
@inkva When I have slept a little sleep, I begin to cry to complain. My father takes me in his arms, dancing with me back and forth. Dance then with the small, dancing so, so should dance wake ref
I guess there are som errors in here, its hard to hear what she is singing and it is an old dialect. Pluss my english could be better so i'm not quite sure if i got it right in to English.
This is so beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing. Hi to everyone in beautiful Norway, from Stefan in the UK
I came across this music whilest searching for a Norwegien song when watching a wildlife programme about the disappearing wilderness. This was back in 1990, the only part I know was that the music was a 'good reason for lament'
It was a haunting song by a male singer, wondered if any one might just have an idea of the song's title/name. Very long shot but would appreciate any help.
It's just a lullaby. It's not about berserkers or pagans and there isn't much of a story to it. Here are the parts I can translate. stundom gråter og stundom ler Sometimes crying and sometimes laughing Sove nå, sove nå, i jesu navn, Jesus bevare barnet. Sleep now, sleep now, in Jesus' name, Jesus watch over the baby. My mother sings "sleep now" ....... My brother sings "sleep now" My sister sings "sleep now" Danse så, med de små, Dance then, with the small child
Try playing this in one session, and then with a short delay, play it in a second session at the same time - quite an extraordinarily beautiful effect.

I've been looking for this song everywhere! Except... now I don't have the blasted lyrics. When you're learning the language it doesn't help to learn this song by ear lol. Anyone got them for me?
It's funny with your comment about pagan brothers and sister...
I speak Swedish, not Norwegian, but I heard the name of Jesus several times during the song... She finishes with singing something like this: "In Jesus name, Jesus keep the child"
Vikingskog... you are 100% right. No one come to save us from our stupidity, because we are the saviors!!!! We have to save our self and the good God will help us! The first step is to leave all stupid, dogmatic abrahamic religions. The second step is to open our mind to the true God messages and transcendental love what is continuously coming to us.
In the beginning there was only God and His good children without any bloody abrahamic religions. There was peace and everlasting happines all around the World!!!
You cannot blame ALL "Abrahamic" religions! Even though its mostly Christianity to blame for the destruction of the Viking culture, and also countless innocent people burned alive, tortured, forced to convert, etc (as in Spanish Inquisition/persecution of Muslims, etc) an example of a peaceful Abrahamic religion is Islam as practiced in Arabian Gulf. Arabian Gulf countries never tried to kill or convert anyone and we did peaceful trade with India that is our history...
I dont got the text for it, but its a lullaby(bånlåt = lullaby), When Edvard Grieg one time was on a mountain trip near Jotunheimen, he stopped near a seter(a mountain farm), and he heard a woman, Gjendine Slålien, singing this lullaby for a child she was watching over.
Edvard Grieg got very fascinated by the lullaby as he had never heard it before, and wrote it down on paper there.
Gjendine could also play bukkehorn(rams horn) which Grieg heard as he left to continue on his walk.

Is "bån" an old form of the word "barn"?
mezzoforte84 2 years ago
Well, it's more a dielectal version of "barn". But yes, it's propably older than "barn", which I would guess partly derived from danish.
