I too have a "small" hiatus hernia but oh have I had some horrid symptoms. Im male only 31.
my best advice is not to eat late in the evening and allow about 3 hours before going to sleep. I also take an antacid before going to sleep or a swig of gaviscon. That holds me off. Good luck with this
i have a hiatal hernia i just need to get tested to know for sure. what is a better testing method safety wise and accuracy, to test for a hiatal hernia- endoscopic examination or barium x-ray. mine doesnt have heartburn but feels like it is constricted which is a pain. and is surgery safe, because i seen videos of the surgery and it looks like they are cutting of the tissue that connects your stomach to the organ in front of it so they can get to the stomach, will that tissue reconnect.
An endoscopy is just when the camera is put down through your throat, to see if there is a hernia there. Sometimes they will also clip a small piece of tissue and send it for testing. That's the most accepted way to diagnose and hernia, and don't worry there is no major cutting. Best wishes, hope I helped. I've had two endoscopies and it's relatively harmless.
@0633767jerishowrulez It would be best if you have an upper endoscopy instead. The hiatal hernia does not show most of the time during barium x-ray, like what happened to me. The doctors taught It was just hyper-acidity or IBS or anxiety. But they were all wrong until I had gastroscopy. It showed that I have sliding hiatal hernia. After all the severe pain attacks that I had for three months, I am very thankful that I finally got the right diagnosis. Good luck.
@rssndrsn I actually got the barium swallow and it found nothing. The doctor is still clueless on why I am having the pain I am having . I honestly beleive I have a rolling hiatal hernia that is starting to get strangulated. no heart burn, which is accociated with sliding hiatal hernias. Now my question is this, will an endoscopy be able to see a rolling hiatal hernia. you can look up pictures of rolling hiatal hernias and it does seem like an endoscopy would be able to see it.
@0633767jerishowrulez Just go ahead. It should, I think. But you have to explain your symptoms to the gastroenterologists who is going to do the gastroscopy for you so in case the it does not show up on the cam, clips can be put on your stomach so the hernia will more visible. Good luck!
I am actually considering an operation to fix my hernia. In case you find out have paraesophageal hiatal hernia, you should consider surgery because it is a lot worse than mine.
I got also hiatus hernia, and i train karate, anyway, i feel it every day, it hurt me like it's my heart, but doctors said me it is just the hernia. So sad to get this so young.
well, God cannot do much because hernia does not get well on its own, you have to be very careful with your diet, eat often and little, avoid fried and fat food.
I am 20 and i got that hernia, gerd and gastirits i lost 20kg, i thought always it is my heart. After i recognize it is hernia i made again some kg. I live always in pain and idk hot to lsoe it. I dont to anything just sitting home.
Before beginning any exercise you should check with your physician... Have you participated in the video, remember the video is a shortened version for viewing audience it is better to hold each pose for 9 full deep breaths...
You have got to be kidding a rolled up towel! I rolled up a camp mattress and still had no hope of resting my torso on it and I have a very low BMI. So what else can I try??.
Use a chair in front of you, lift the flesh of your bottom so the sitting bones engage with the mat on the floor, as you lengthen your spine lifting your sternum broaden your shoulders and fold from the head of the femur. Keep the tailbone long away from the hips, motion forward 1/3 of the way resting your hands on the chair, breathe deep, relax in the exhale and go another 1/3, small movements, does not mean your experience will go to the floor or camp mattress for that matter! Namaste...
Hiatal hernia, a protrusion of the stomach into the diaphragm. These postures stabilize the psoas and spinal muscles, the abdominal twist is very gentle not to upset the hernia but strengthen through the abdomen. People who suffer from Hiatal Hernia should avoid postures which put pressure on the abdomen, like Cobra, Bow, and Bridge. Practice slow, deep breathing that can firm the diaphragmatic muscles. Avoid inversions.
As my above comment states people who suffer from Hiatal Hernia should avoid postures which put pressure on the abdomen, like Cobra, Bow, and Bridge. Practicing slow, deep breathing can firm the diaphragmatic muscles. And with a hiatal hernia, it is best to avoid inversions, which can send acids from the stomach back into the esophagus.
I am doing pranayama (Breathing Exercise) daily about 20 mins is this ok for Hiatus Hernia ... Actually I took some pills (Nexpro) 20 mg and I've stopped the pills now I am taking some precautions like avoiding liedown immly after meals and avoiding spicy food ..
Right now I feel much better No Heart burn or Burps is there any thing which I can add to this routine pls let me know
Green Pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds are high in zinc. Vitamin A, zinc and vitamin E may all be of benefit in healing inflammation and ulceration of the esophagus. Shark oil capsules are fabulous!
If you go through the motion as quickly as I did on this video you will not feel the true essence of the pose (asana). In order to get the full benefit you need to make sure that you FEEL 12 full breaths where you expand as you inhale and relax in the exhale. This is done for each pose (asana).

I have one too, since I was born. I do all of what langdonet said, but during really bad episodes it helps to elevate your bed, at the head end.

same with me, it's due to weakness of the abdominal muscles, you need to avoid acid food, cereals in the evening and eat early at night.
