Hey Jon, Not sure if you will respond to this but, I am in a HUGE dillema. I want the kindle fire AND iPad 2. Money is tight for me, but I am thinking of getting the Fire because, if you think about it, you can get 2 Fire's for LESS than 1 iPad. Now that just made apple look bad. :-) So what are your thoughts? I just want to see if the Fire is worth it. thanks in advance. :-)

@2Nickdogg ipad is more expensive, but it has more apps, better build quality, and a much, much, much bigger screen. it has more media and a smoother user interface, not to mention a longer battery. However, if your money is tight, go with the fire, i did some research, and it costs amazon $201 to make a kindle fire. That's called a good deal. THey plan to make money from selling media.

i have to say a ipad is amazing! and this and that is no comparison excpept.................you could buy two of these and another kindle touch for twenty dollars cheaper than 1 ipad. sorry apple. maybe if you didnt make your products crazy expensive then more people could afford one!

I just won a kindle fire in a vex robotics competition. We got second. The team that got first got iPads. I'm just wondering what the kindle can do. Could someone tell me what it is mainly used for and if one could get much use out of it?

@Drewerd615 It's primarily used for reading but I use my not only for reading my books. I get my news papers and magazines... plenty of games!!!! Emails and you can watch movies, tv shows, and listen to music and because it has wifi you can search the web :)

@Drewerd615 Kindle is basically used for reading, but you can install apps on it. You should really consider buying a Blackberry Playbook though :)!

Love iPad 2 so much more. Don't care about how much heavier it feels, I love having a bulky case because it makes me feel like my iPad is nice & safe. & the Bluetooth keyboard I got for it makes my iPad like a tiny computer! So many apps and it's nice to have iCloud keeping it in sync with my iPod touch. Don't get kindle fire, my friends who have them say it gets laggy.

@Rosaline891 the Kindle Fire is pocket-size and convenient. The iPad is big and heavier, and not that convenient to carry around. Kindle Fire is handier, and is a glorified e-reader. And is NOT in the same category as the over-rated iPad.

I'm torn between Kindle Fire and ipad 2! I'll basically use Kindle for reading e-books. Correct me if I'm wrong but Kindle is the only tablet in the market which gives a paper feel (ink screen) whilst reading?

@JazzyJean I recommend getting the Kindle Fire. The iPad 2, gives you too much eye strain in so little time. I read on my iPad 2 for only 20 minutes each day. If i read longer, than my vision will get very blurry. I'm sure thats the same for you. But the Kindle Fire does not have that kind of technology that will make your eyes strain. I recommend Kindle Fire...

As a tablet it looks great, but as an e-reader it doesn't look so great. It looks beautiful, but it doesn't quite compare to the rest of the kindles when it comes to a reading experience. I'd love for a kindle to be in color, but I'd rather be without the outside glare.

Just picked it up today. I personally think all these tech reviewers are just apple fanboys. Because everyone is knocking this incredible product. Its been good so far. I was an Apple Fanboy, however this is a great product.

@haloman800 You don't need one. It sync everything to amazon's cloud storage. So you can delete and redownload it later from the slim chance you fill its memory unless you are one of those people who reads an ungodly amount of books per year.

No as he mentioned it does not have a 3G signal, which in your case would be a "wifi" signal. You only have coverage were you are connected to a router.
