Born in Illinois, educated in Iowa. I have to say my years in Iowa were probably the best years of my life. Didn't expect that from an Asian redneck like me. :D
Anyone ever hear of soybeans? In our part of Iowa at least, it's about 50/50 corn and soybeans. The song would have been more correct if it were written 60 or 70 years ago . . .
I think the last 'verse' deserved to be longer, and needed three times the 'corn' it has now, knowing it's over 100 miles from Des Moines to Council Bluffs.
lol i live in davenport iowa and i was sitting here like yes this is it lol funny thing about it is theres a farm in my backyard lol its my neighbors... yea ik wht tht smell is ur talkin bout there nd they sell corn at the end of every other street in the summer ahhhhh u gotta love us iowans
@paseo1997 If it were about Nebraska it would be....Missouri River, Omaha, corn corn corn, Platte River, corn corn corn corn, Lincoln, corn corn corn corn corn corn, what's that smell, corn corn corn corn, Sandhill Cranes (in the right season), corn corn corn corn corn, York, corn corn corn corn, North Platte, corn corn corn corn corn Lake McConaughy, shortgrass prairieeeeeee........Kimball!
I like the song, but at the same time I don't. I live in NE Iowa, and traveling I-80 doesn't show you the whole state. Iowa maybe known for corn, but like the sign when you enter the state says "Iowa, fields of opportunities"
there's a saying in Iowa... "Iowa can live with out the rest of the US.... but the US can NOT live with out Iowa" ... i find truth to this saying ... I Love Iowa!!
This really is true. Do you know how boring it is to have roadtrips across Iowa? There is absolutely NOTHING to do. I live in Iowa. I would know. Luckily, I live near Davenport, but it's still horrible... x)
Iowa also has one an really good public education. Thats why everyone takes the ITBS. Ive saw a lot of other schools and Iowa's are by far the best! And Shawn Johnson is from here!
lol...i'm from Cedar Rapids (just half an hour north of Iowa City for any non-iowans) and i find this song hillarious. yeah, we have great public education compared to other states (though i'm sure most other countries would beat us) and Iowa has some good points, but i've traveled I-80 and he's actually right about that...only thing he missed was the Adult Superstore in the middle of a corn field
oh, and if you're trying to support our state's public education...please get the grammar right.
gay! I live in Iowa & this is just making fun of the rural areas of Iowa. There are a lot of neat things around Des Moines. Yeah there is a lot of Corn, but it only looks like that in the summer. Also I barley see any pigs unless I actually go into a barn. Iowa has a a lot higher income than the people in the south like Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Lousiana. Iowans are not hillbillies they are farmers. Hillibilles are the uneducated ignorant people in the south, not in the mid-west.
If you want to sound intelligent, don't start out your statement with, "Gay!" I'm sure there's many other things you can say to get your point across without sound ignorant. Beside that I agree with everything you said.
Ok so just because we also farm means we are uneducated and ignorant here in the south? Here in Alabama, there are some of the highest rated high-schools in the country, and it happens that I go to the #1 school.
I'm not saying everyone in the south, but there is reason those are the poorest states in the country. Once again it's not everyone though. When I was last in Alabama I saw a lot of old beat up trailers on the side of the road.
wel um in IOWA and the midwest has the best schools!! and F.Y.I. the SAT is easier than the ACT!!! and that is wat the midwest takes and the west and east coastes take the SAT!!
i love it! i love the pig part. in my hometown of waterloo it pretty much smells like pigs all the time. but we aren't hicks or hillbillies as most people think, and btw we hunt deer because they are overpopulating our state and cause constant crashes and highways because they are stupid. just thought you should know.
tjkillduff-your definition of hilbillies is to far north. For instance, I live an hour north of Arkansas and everyone speaks quite well. It ain't 'til ya get tuh Awrkansaw that people tawlk good.
just because iowa is the corn capital of the world and because we are the best farmers in the world everyone from the east thinks we're hillbillies sorry but that is more missouri
XD Hillarious but... I live in Iowa and were not like stupid hillbillys >.>;; We are actually REALLY smart compared to other places...but that was still funny xD
AHHHH HAHAHAHAHA I just saw him last night in Wyandotte, MI. He did this song and then he did a great version of it for I-75 from the Ohio border through Michigan. XD I love Haywood!!
Iowan's have one of the best education systems in the nation, we designed the test that grades everyone else in most the midwest that is equal to our level. We may seem like red neck corn farmers, but atleast were smart.

As someone who drove through the entirety of Iowa on I-80, this is scarily accurate.
But hey, at least Iowa's better than Nebraska.

We can be cold as a falling thermometer in December
if you ask about our weather in July,
And we're so by God stubborn we could stand touching noses for a week at a time and never see eye to eye.
But what the heck, you're welcome.
Join us at the picnic.
You can eat your fill of all the food you bring yourself.
You really ought to give Iowa a try
(provided you were contrary).

Jeff Foxworthy says you must be an Iowan if.....
Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a tractor on the highway.
You know several people who have hit a deer.
You end your sentences with an unnecessary preposition. Example: "Where's my coat at?"
You know what the numbers 80, 35, 280 and 380 mean. You've never met any celebrities...
and you don't really care.
I live in Iowa, and I love it! :)
