  • horrible demo, horrible playing. adjusting both to the same settings does not show the difference. neither does playing the same riffs, not showing what the pedals are meant for.

  • Blue...

  • blue!

  • Jeesis, that Blue version really can alive when you turned it up at 3:20. Why didn't you show what the toggle switches on each are for.

  • I came at 2:27.

  • BLUE - sounds brighter, gainier but more compressed, bass is tighter and sounds sharper overall

RED - sounds warmer, bass sounds looser, very Tubescreamer'ish

***like always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay.***

BOTH pedals are different beasts and they both sound pretty good!

  • what is true bypass?

  • Meh, neither do anything for me. Never liked fuzzes (too woofy) and That red is especially annoying though, you can hear too much of the unaffected signal through the overdrive. I think that might be why I like distortion more than overdrive, because hearing unaffected guitar is common with a lot of overdrives. I wanna hear no 'clucking' when the pedal is driven.

  • @RNRDOLL

I know what you mean, but overdrives that allow some of the clean signal to mix in are meant to be used in front of an amp that is cranked a little bit. If the amp and speakers are starting to break up a little, you don't notice the unaffected signal because everything gets blended together. Those type of ODs can sound fake if the amp is set too clean.

  • @lordkoos Ya know what, I just bought this od from coffin case called the Blood Drive..its a fantastic od; I wanted to try an od before I decided I hated ALL of them. On clean (and low volume) it does allow bleed, but its not unattractive. its definitely a dynamic, underrated OD. Only thing I dont like is that it saps some bass response off the dirty channel of my egnater renegade, kinda like a tubescreamer tends to do. I guess for od's the classic SD-1 is always a good choice other than my BD.

  • I use a balls basic EL34 equipped 100 watt head. Judging from your demo and others, red is what I am ordering to push my lead channel into metal overdrive. Very nice demo from both pedals!

  • what's the song at the beginning and the end??

  • I want your guitar skills!!!!!!!!

  • the red has more mids while the blue is scooped... the red has balls.

  • I love both but I like the red better....lol blue is my fav color

  • red has more tone.

  • haha dude this guy is funny as hell! Great demos..

  • Gearmandude do you actually own all of this equipment or do you get toys too play with for free from endorsment deals?

Or are you just rich as Hell:_)

  • 3:45 is the plot to a new drama I'm trying to sell to NBC for next fall. It will be called Jetter and Jetter. It's about a couple good ol' boy OD pedals kickin' ass in a small southern town, making their own kind of justice--tone justice.

  • @OKthreasher this comment = win. but would also make a sweet show

  • 3:21 the blue is epic.

  • these are just about the best overdrive pedals you will ever hear. $209 is a paltry sum to pay for tone like that.

  • Dude Man of Gear! Excellent demo as per usual. How about a Jetter Jetdrive demo? Thanks Mon.

  • Proguitarshop demoed the Jetdrive last week

I still want PGS to demo the Lutherdrive!!

  • I've found that the GSR mates well with a humbucker-equiped hollow body. Don't know about the Blue, don't have one....but it sounds like it'd have alot of versatility. You didn't task either pedal very much, so you'd probably be in for a treat if you did. Thanks & rgds, Andrew.

  • The Blue rules! Sounds great with humbuckers too. Really versatile pedal.

  • Sounds awesome when they're both on together

  • you always have the coolest stuff

  • Thank you! That's why I play the same thing all the time...simple licks and riffs, to demo the pedal...not demo the player...that would really suck!

    ROCK ON!

    GMD

  • I like the red...I'm hearing a bit of compression, but that distortion is nice and creamy

  • mmm... red...

  • now that you got your new mic system we're gonna have to hear some more OD shootouts between the Luther and some other drives :)

  • nice new intro man!! was this edited in iMovie?

    new camera too? great quality!

  • its jack black!!!

  • init man

  • id go blue!

has a much nice crunchy tone!

red sounds a bit too soft and muddy almost

  • red all the way the blue sounds like your playing through a blown speaker

  • red really sux, blue has so much more charater

  • I'm really wondering what they'd sound like with more modern rock... Especcially that blue one, it has alot of potential... The red is cool for calssic rock, but I really wanna see what that blue can do.

  • Both sound good, but the red sounds a bit generic to me. The blue is more to my liking.

  • i just got a steve vai signiture jemini distortion pedal it's very similar to these 2 pedals

  • REDREDREDREDREDREDREDREDRED

    all the way!

blues got absouloutly nothing on it really in my opinion

  • what is the opening song/band???

  • no i mean the rifts he plays in this vid,he also plays in other vids

  • i like blue alot more

  • really nice but seriously he plays the same rift almost everytime

  • stageing goodness!

  • it is a matter of personal taste, but it wasn't ironic.

I just feel that there are sonic spaces that each of these could fill for different reasons.

There are things that the blue could work for that the red couldn't and vice versa.

  • i like red better (:

  • I'm totally holding your feelings about the blue pedal against you gearmann :p

  • MAN does the red sound good!

  • Love the new video format...new camera, mics, awesome amp, cooler openings

    GMD FTW!!!

  • What's with the fancy opening!? That's not GMD!

    :D

  • he got a new computer

  • could have just got new software... or a mac

  • he got a new mac... i read it in one of his comments

  • the blue was higher gain i think but it was much sharper to much high, in teh red it softher but thicker, and sounded nicer in general

  • Red by a country mile. even and broad mids.

  • yeah, and an apple tastes better than an orange.

  • what kind of apple and what kind of orange are we talkin bout?

  • oh, we're not talkin'.

  • red all the way.

  • Blue sound better to me, both sound good though.

  • The red one is better I think but I want 'em both =)

  • love the micing of the amp gearman! You can hear the difference! Thank for doing these awesome demos, I have already purchased 2 pedals based on your reviews, and I think I want a luther drive soon!

  • $230? Get OUT!!

  • buy the byoc pedal Overdrive 2 and the E.s.v. Knob Bender. You get them both for less than one of these.

  • Yeah. the 2 knob-bender is great.

  • whats the opening song? that is indeed a sick pedal.

  • Liked them both!

  • Red wins!

  • I dig the slick graphics your putting in the opening credits................crazy
