The English cemeteries of old, were in church yards, and for some reason the roses were always in bloom there. There was an old saying that the dead were growing the flowers and that they will never die.
My mother didn't sing professionally, but had a really good voice. Judy Garland was her favorite by far. If her rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", sung on "The Judy Garland Show" in '63 (following the assination of J.F.K.) doesn't make the hair on your arms stand up, nothing will. She was peddle to the metal at all times, not one note ever came out weak.
@franklindavid A verse of the song was cut. I think the "flowers are dying" words from the verse that was cut were moved forward and replaced the "roses are falling" words, but I'm not sure. Someone who knows the song better would need to comment. Or I suppose someone could do an Internet search on the complete lyrics to the song.
@franklindavid No, it should always be 'roses falling' in the first verse. The rhyme scheme suggests 'falling', not 'dying,' regardless of how it might be sung elsewhere. Ref. 'the pipes are calling' for the rhyme.
my body came off the nails that were helding me to my eternal cross. i am in humble tears in this great potent song, portrail. i love you so Y0U EXTRAMODEL
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! It makes me cry when she sing tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow!! and at the end!! hearing this made me sing it for my talent show at my school! Judy Garland is so beutifull in every way and i love her!!
Judy was always my favorite female singer and yes she outshined Mickey but once she was gone Mickey and Gene Kelly never said a bad word about her unlike Mel Torme in his book "The Otherside of the Rainbow". I could listen to Judy 24/7
I LOVE this video!!!The song is so beatifull just like Judy was inside and out,and I love the photos and clips you put together! To Judy Rest In Peace,You will never be forgotten. We all miss you!May your soul live on forever and may you finaly make it over the rainbow.
im 23 and she is my favorite singer ever. my grandmother introduced me to her when i was about 3 and been a fan ever since. she makes me smile, cry, or feel like dancing depending on the song. No other singer can play so many roles in different song and make it look effortless
I saw my mother cry three times: when her mother died in the early 70s, when Dad died in 1984, and when Judy died in 1969. Check out the Judy/Streisand duet! There's two awesome female voices!
She was so amazing!!! I jus hate to know she was misrible all the time!!! You can see the heartache in her eyes with every pic!!! She stares into the distance and you can see the tears she isnt allowed to show!!! Frances had the gr8est talent the world has ever known until Michael and Whitney!!!
40 years ago today (June, 22) the world lost one of its greatest talents. I'm nearly in tears as I listen to this. Thank you Judy for making the world a better place and thank god we have your films and recordings so we never forget you.
No one, and I mean no one could sing a song like Judy. Ever fiber of the song was drenched in emotion and meaning-just perfect. She doesn't over sing it but gives it power, she was and will forever be the greatest singer to ever live. Long live Judy Garland!
@franklinajohnson Actually I think she does over sing it here...a little too 'drenched', as was her style as she got older and her health deteriorated. She did a much better version, much more touching, in the 1940 film "Little Nellie Kelly". I do agree however that she was the greatest singer and all around entertainer...
Magnificent...but what album is it from? It sounds different from the version I remember on one of the Capitol albums. Of course my memory could be faulty.
If its true that we reap what we sow, Judy is singing for the divine right now, and all those rotten bastard producers, directors and agents that addicted her and ruined her life are barking in hell. The world needs to protect those once in a millennium talents, to make them happy, and not let parasitic movie moguls take such terrible advantage of them.
And it didn't help that everywhere she went, literally everywhere, people were mobbing her to sing "Over the Rainbow." That would be enough to drive any person insane.
It's such a shame, though, because her beauty was incomparible, and her voice belonged to an angel...
"The only reason that Cher's is better is that Cher sings the whole song"?!! Are you high? Hey, I like "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves" as much as the next fella but this JUDY GARLAND we're talking about. Christ.
This is a great interpretation of the song. The only reason that Cher's is better is that Cher sings the whole song; whereas Judy (in this recording) leaves out the last part. I would love to hear Judy sing the whole song.
I love this song and Judy perfomance. :-D

A wonderful gift from above. She was taken to sing in the choir of angels. May she rest in peace.

See how blessed we are? People who grew up listening to and watching Judy had far less access to her than we do. Thanks for this. It's breathtaking.

She truly had a god given blessing! Mickey Rooney doesn't even hold a candle to Judy Garland and he got paid 10x more!

Thanks, but I don't think so...if the year is correct, there was no Judy Garland Show in 1955. It sounds like a studio recording.
