A number of years ago, Natalie appeared at the Winnipeg Folk Fest before she was known by anyone outside of Atlantic Canada. There were 5 or 6 daytime stages then, and my wife and I split up to check out different acts. I was (am) a fiddling fan so I thought I would see this fiddling workshop. After I saw Nat do her thing, I sought out my wife and said "You've got to see this fantastic young woman!". We caught her later in another workshop and were completely mesmerized. Still are. Wonderful.
Aye. Don't underestimate the sheer talent of this lassie nor that of piper Mat MacIsaac who I think has well surpassed Alex Currie as a stepdance piper as far as technique. And, don't understimate you own ability to play well enough as do many other fiddler in Cape Breton.
Grow up in the culture. Start playing when you are perhaps 6. Learn from Stan Chapman. Have Buddy MacMaster as an uncle and Ashley MacIsaac as a neighbour and the whole rest of it from my ordinary playing to a house party with perhaps 20 fiddlers , some ordinary and some great.
All that talent, and her hair looks great too!!! LOL
