The day will soon come when Dream Theater will write music for an epic motion picture, maybe even create there own epic motion picture wouldn't that really be something?
@humanfacedog That's be incredible. Maybe a song that tells a story through their songs, like Pink Floyd did with "The Wall" and The Beatles did with "Strawberry Fields Forever."
Actually, when push comes to shove, Mangini is quite a lot more skilled than Portnoy, which is a tremendous feat in itself. Neither one fits dream theater better than the other though in my opinion.
OMFG why the fuck are there only 11,000 views. Just like with Images and Words this will be top of my playlist for the next 6 months solid. DT should be bigger than god! This new album is fuckin phenominal! Michael Michael Michael......
@123porMao Well, this Awesome song and !!Greatest band on Planet!! deserves a decent comment at least =) I Don't know about the fans of DT but since I started listening Them I just can't get enough! They always amaze me with their new records cause you dont know what to expect.. They dont follow a pattern in their music thats one of the many reasons I love DT. And to all the hatters of Mr. M. Mangini, you should enjoy this new chapter in DT History, and give him a chance to show his greatness!!
I simply cannot wait to get this album....stunning songwriting, phenomenal musicianship, warmth, ingenuity, grace, ups and downs, excitement, subtlety, variety, complexity, simplicity, grandeur......I am once again at peace with DT.......end of
@MetalMaple I don't understand why people can't accept Mangini for being as good as Portnoy. Portnoy couldn't make ANYTHING better then this, and neither can Mangini, they put all of their heart in every song and what feels right, and this feels perfectly right.
@danyarka Petrucci didn't write all of the drum parts. Mangini definitely added a lot of his own style in to this also, as he stated he likes to use his Crash cymbals as a Ride Source(Cymbal), which portnoy didn't do. I've heard a lot of his crash cymbal "riding".
@noobsmoke261 lol I don't know in detail who wrote what, I just listened and read interviews where petrucci said he had written drums parts, but if u say so ok...
Anyway I'd prefer listening a fully written Mangini song to judge how well he plays into the band...
@danyarka Yeah, I can't really judge fully yet because he hasn't writen anything on his own completely. But I really feel like he's the only person that could've replaced Mike Portnoy perfectly. Don't get me wrong Marco Minneman can too, but can you REALLY picture him in Dream Theater? When they are doing sessions it seems like he doesn't fit as well as Mangini.
I hate to say this, but I think I like Mangini more than Portnoy .. And no I'm not a "new-comer" to Dream Theater ... I'm a die hard fan that've been listening to them for ages...I've even met them =)
@SunsideProduction I honestly think Mike Mangini is better then Portnoy too, not saying portnoy didn't contribute a lot to the band, some people can't hear how advanced he is, on Bridges in the sky, he plays like 4 different parts at the same time. He basically plays Myung's part on his Bass, he does Petrucci's stabs with his spash, and there's a few more. Mangini is fucking unreal, not even supposed to be on this planet really.
@noobsmoke261 We have only heard 1 album from Mangini, so I don't think you can say he is as good as Portnoy.
Mike Portnoy is a god. Don't get me wrong though, I think Dream Theater is better without him. He was making DT go heavier and heavier, and I don't think that is necessarily what they needed.
Based on this album though, it is clear that Mangini has incredible talent and will be a suitable replacement. Portnoy was one of the most talented musicians of all time though...
@Sconies123 Well, I do think that so far Mike Portnoy is better for Dream Theater, but he's been with them for 25 years, so it's just natural now. I'm sure Mangini will get there.
this song is an exemple of what dream theater is, is progressive rock THE BEST OF ALL MUSIC CATOGORIES
