  • I saw paul rodgers in california during the summer and he still got it, that voice is amazing for his age. Free has never got the credit they deserve, to me they were better than bad company and a big reason why because bad company did not include Paul Kossoff who died way to early at only 25. Long live Free..... oh and if anyone who is into vinyl and find a first edition on anyone of there albums get it they sound amazing. I lucked out in finding a few of there records for a wopping 15 bucks.

  • Man that bass. You can hear Andy Fraser's bass in every Free song and he's a damn good bassist.

  • marty has a good cover of that song !

  • an old classic. brilliant!

  • Paul Rodgers sounds incredible. What a band.

  • How do you pronounce Kossoff? Love the band and his playing, but I've never been sure how to pronounce his name...

  • this is epic... total brilliant..

  • I always think of this as Ride On Pony - I think it's called that on Free Live.

  • free were a great band, maybe one one of the most underated bands of those days, they were all great musicians and paul kossoff was a dam good guitarist, you can listen to all their songs and still enjoy them today,i think they were basic for a lot of bands of the future

  • LEGENDE

  • where can i download this for free? cant fint it.

    FUCK GOOGLE

  • @Slomotionmovies write "pwn" between ww. and youtbe.

  • @Slomotionmovies dony you got torrent? Download or buy all you will like all Im sure.

  • i wish i wasnt 26 hahah so i could see them too but from the other hand i am 26 :P

  • There's just one voice like this one! Band grooves al hell! We still keep all the records.

  • this song helped me get over my bad aids and being jewish

  • this song helped me get over my bad aids

  • Paul still is the White Voice for me. But for Koss, no shredding, clean long notes just to serve for the song. No one can match that

  • @murfdog: our generation didn't just GET Free, Cream, The Beatles, The Stones, Zepplin, etc. etc. Those guys arose FROM our generation. That era was on fire in every important creative way. Haven't seen the likes of it since. We're overdue!

  • anyone who dislikes this doesnt know what music is.

  • What a damn good song , Free is just Awesome and underrated like Koss as an guitarist too , dont know why everyone is talking about Hendrix, Page and so on , for me Koss was on of the Best Guitarists EVER !

  • Solo to Remember is one of my favourite Koss moments.

  • Anyone who can disagree that this is one of the best songs ever written shouldn't be given the grace of life, koss and the boys doing rock and roll proud once again, I wish I was old enough to meet the man, a friend of mine did once, gave him his 59, to which he still has to this day I beleive, and plays, I held it once, it has his soul in it, only time I've ever played close to this, give me any other axe and I can't do it. It just aint the same.

  • ha, that's funny the juicy lucy stencil at 0:43 secs.

  • Possibly one of the top ten videos on Youtube. Sublime performance.

  • lord have mercy....i love free soooo much...n this song well it makes me wana ride a pony...n then sum. paul rodgers..the sexiest man in the universe. Free... individually talented and collectively...a rock band like no other...love love love them!

  • The groove is awesome. Andy Frazer is up there as top dog. Page wasnt/isnt fit to wash Kossoff's socks (or any other part of him). You're all spot on. By the way, I just love the way this groove cranks up after the solo, when Rogers comes back in. OH YES YES YES!

  • @kissyxander Lol why is everyone hatin on Page mainnn. U never head led zeppelin fans say: Omg Page is so much better then Kossof. Its more like this I think: Page could never replace Kossof in Free, but Kossof could also never replace Page in Led Zeppelin. U gettin me boi?

  • @SchnitzelMIC Yup. Feel the same way.

  • @SchnitzelMIC I agree...Both are perfect fit for there respective bands and I enjoy them both equally. Page and Rogers are good friends for many years and Page would join Bad Company on tour and perform on stage in '74 and '75. And I am sure Page followed Rogers and Free when he helped sign Bad Company as the first act to Zepp's Swan Song label that was formed in '73/'74. This whole washing someone's socks bit is quite retarded...

  • Andy Frazer is the best bass player ever, why does everyone overlook his importance in the success of Free.

  • @666hazhazhaz I'd say underrated but yes he's easily one of the top 100 bassists of all time. Cliff B., Geddy L., John E., Geezer B., and many more need their place. He was the perfect opposite for Paul Kussoff it really shows in this song. Simon's drumming and Rodgers voice add to the greatness.

  • Page wasnt even fit to wash Kossoffs socks

  • @clikityclak Your fucking crazy. And I love both of those fuckers to death. 2 different guitar players. Both brilliant.

  • @kingofthedeep

I like the way the guitar sounds :D

  • the greatest fucking rock band, bar-none... done, enough said, finished, shut the fuck up... the fucking greatest with a capital F..... as in ....... fuck....

  • @wolfatnight So i herd u leik Free? ;)

  • @wolfatnight ...You are so right my Man !!! This session at Granada in Manchester is absolute Gold !! Beat the ass of any of those middle class assholes the music industry promotes now !! And not one of them over 21 at the time !!! Amazing !!

  • So when the guitar player goes into his solo, be sure to put cameras on everyone but him.... Jeez...

  • The thing about Kossef is that he literally mdfe his notes bleed when he soloed-when ur a palyer, there is something special about ur first band, and definately can be said of Paul Rodgers!

  • EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion. I appreciate that..... I do. HOWEVER, to say that Kossof is BETTER than Page. Or that this band is BETTER than Zeppelin. Well, I just gotta say WTF on that one. I LOVE FREE.. but good god man.

  • greatt song:):)

  • This is so fuckin' good... I could listen it all day long.

  • The Greatest Rockin' Blues band EVER

  • whoever the four dickheads are who dislike this have no idea what real music is.

ps. justin bieber is a cocksucker

  • My favorite song/singer/band. Of all TIME! You can't get better than Paul Rodgers!!

  • three great musicians and an incredible blues singing frontman. Free are definitely one of England's greatest ever bands.

  • Sometimes there is a perfect mix - this is Free - the sum is greater than the individual - even though they are all at the top of their respective areas..

Is it me? - music has no soul today - just technical and aesthetic fluff..

Free are what I got into music for - it's the feel..Just he best!

  • @retroPCW So true !

  • Humbel Pie used this riff in "all shook up". Frazier doesn't get enough credit in the bass guitar/writer world. He wrote the riff to "It's all right now".

  • Humbel Pie used this riff in "all shook up".

  • i could just listen to paul for hours

  • love this song, and a girl that is a 100+ miles away <3

  • Ok ...I came here from watching Jimmy Bowskill's version of this song and I gotta take back what I said...This is definitely a better version.

  • Simon Kirke kicks. Very underrated.....

  • These guys were the masters of leaving space between the notes. Andy Fraser was one of the true greats of the bass, and check out the sunburst shade on that Les Paul of Kossoff's, it's just a picture.

  • This is like Ur-Black Crowes. At least they picked someone good to copy.

  • what a voice Mr Rodgers owns!!

  • Some great vocals.....

  • Just the blues with Free, just the blues.

  • could you imagine hes voice today he,d make millions

  • check them white pants out..haha yes...great song

  • pre bad company. this is one of the cooler things i've found on youtube. right on, most very cool... sadness to paul kossoff's departure. a star that flashed out way too soon

  • Interesting to see "Juicy Lucy" on the back of Andy's cabs. Juicy Lucy were a blues rock band around when Free were. Anyone know why some of their equipment might have been used by Free?

  • @drwinkle101 - my guess is that Juicy Lucy were headlining this show - they had a big hit with 'Who do you love' and Free were just about to break into the big time?

  • @NeilThompson30

Yes of course, that seems very likely now I think!

    Thanks.

  • @drwinkle101 Hi saw the original show when first broadcast. The TV Company did 3 x 1/2 specials featuring Free on the first, then Deep Purple & Status Quo. They changed the audience format on the last two ( both on YT) .

Juicy Lucy did not feature in any of the shows so my guess is that Free borrowed the gear for the gig.

  • @emperorsdragon

Thanks for the info. Yeh, Perhaps Free were playing elsewhere with

Juicy Lucy around the time this was recorded for TV,

  • @emperorsdragon - thanks for the that info - I've seen clips of all three shows (Free, Purple and Quo) on youtube but never linked them together - nice one.

  • @drwinkle101 Look more closely...Juicy Lucy's gear is not quite set up and not switched on Behind Free's equipment....

  • @skaboosh

Brilliant observation, well done! Pity we don't have precise info on this gig's location and date. Or do we? (a.k.a drwinkle 101)

  • Good thing they're not Zeppelin. I love Zeppelin - don't get me wrong, but who the fuck needs two of em. Free was a unique band with some great members. Rodgers, Kossof, and Fraser are cream of the crop. This is one of their best tunes as well.

  • Oh Koss the boss. His solos are soooo freakin brilliant. You can sing along like its its own song. Lol sometimes there even better than the vocal melody though Paul Rogers was equal as great of a singer. Can't say enough about this band. So wish I could have lived back then just to see them live.

  • Free..Great band ...Paul Rodgers vocals before he went on to Bad Company. Koss on guitar..couple years later overdosed.

  • Nice riff, good rhythm section and singers' voice is cool, but what a simplistic tune, boring songs these guys wrote, though they perform well, couldn't write except for All right now

  • @socrates1818 So you say that "The Hunter", "I'm a Mover" "Mr. Big" "Fire and Water" are all boring songs? Yeah, they are simplistic in nature but it's what you don't take account that is amazing. They were all young, all very talented at what they do, and Andy was an pioneer for all Hard blues, rock of today on the bass. He played it different and should get more credit. Seems to me Paul Rodgers and Andy Fraser have wrote songs that made more millions than you could ever dream of.

  • @mlarison85 Check out "The Hunter" by Blue Cheer. Booker T. Jones wrote the song but Blue Cheer does a real nice version too in 1968.

  • what talent that will stand the rock test of time andy always giving the solid stand

  • Whoever said 'tone is in the fingers' was so right. Koss made the instrument sing with just a guitar and an amp. He had more tone in his little finger than most of today's shredders could ever dream of possessing!

  • This performance is as tight as Paul's pants, absolutely outstanding! .....and to think there is only 2 guitars and a set of drums, even more outstanding!

  • This song has such soul. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. In my opinion Paul Rodgers is the best singer in the history of blues rock.

  • This is the definition of perfect. Fraser's so damn funky...Koss...RIP buddy

  • everything about kossoffs playing is amazing

    his vibrato, tone, soloing style...

every guitar player who wants to be successful should have a listen him

  • Curse any man who has a bad word to say about this outstanding performance !!

  • @lovelyflares I have a bad thing to say about this performance........I wasn't alive to see it. I mean, what the hell. That generation got Free, Cream, The Beatles, The Stones, Zeppelin; and what do I get? Justin Beiber and The Jonas Brothers!?!? What the.......

  • Just such a groove !! The best blues rock rock group of the '68 to '72 boom..never been beaten. (sorry Zeppelin!) ..Praise to Alexis Corner RIP ..LOLx

  • @lovelyflares you are so right on this one. I mean zep is amazing but they are also a big showboat to me. Lots of extras. Free is just four on the floor and let the music just flow. Straight up bottom 4/4 rock n roll. How it should be. Kirke best groove in rock and Rodgers easily the best "voice" along with possibly Marriot.

  • @lizardsundoor ...oh yes watched again tonight .. I cant keep away !! Help Me !

  • @lovelyflares

You would need help if addicted to Lady Gagantuan-Nose, not Free -- your diagnosis is very good taste!

  • @lovelyflares nice 1

  • Fantastic band, managed to see them live in 1970 Guildford Civic Hall. Paul Rodgers without doubt has the best voice in the business.

  • Wish i could of been in your shoes.. ! Must have watched this over 100 times... still so cool and could easily be re released today ! LOL .

  • @coojert Guildford civic hall ! where have all those kind of venues gone, that kind of gig was an intrinsic part of the birth of live music. Now that we're returning to live music as the bill payer for bands I hope that the small venues will return. They provide a great night out at a good price and keep local bands in business

  • the Voice... wow. little bit of Bon Scott next. Ride on

  • Holy Crap... I want one of everything being used...lol

  • So good, its ridiculous!

  • One of the best bands of all time.

  • Best thing thay ever did !

  • This band is amazing!

They make singing about riding a pony cool!

They put so much soul in their music!!!

I can't get enough of them... the songs never get old, it's truly amazing!

  • @lucky4sab Riding a pony IS cool!!

  • i doesnt get any better than this

  • Simon is a groovin' machine, I love his kind of drumming, absolutely excellent!!!

  • @KeithCMajor yeah, his drumming is minimalistic, almost simplistic. all single stroke stuff, but his timing and feel are often missed by more technical drummers

  • Sometimes you watch Kossof and he just zones out - like he doesn't know what to play next but he just hits any old note and puts that vibrato on it and you think Yep.....

  • singig with 2 mics tied toghether? i love the technical solutions of the 60's

  • One of the Greatest bands of the Uk blues rock boom from 68 to 72. Nutured by the legendary Alexis Corner , god rest him. This has to be one of the grooviest songs of their career and one of the best videos before Koss s degeneration. Real sexy track that could easily be realeased today and no one , I dont think , would call it dated.

  • Really? Call this goofy? I would love to see you and your band play.

  • and God created Andy Frasers bass playing

  • Its amazing that Paul Rogers still sounds almost as good.

  • One of the best bands of all time.

  • God I love this band.

  • So do I and have done since I first saw them and reinforced by every gig after that. I think I saw them seven times and the IOW fest.

  • The really great thing about Koss' solos was that you could never tell what was coming next. He always surprised you. Listen to the solo he plays in this clip. Brilliant!!!

Koss was a great, great guitarist. One of the very, very best. Oh yeah!

  • 3K..Spot on.

Much like my other of the very, very best - Jimi Hendrix, you never knew what was coming next.

For what it's worth, I think his guitar on 'Oh I Wept' was totally sublime,

not technical, just pure emotion from a guy who FELT every note.

    Paul Kossoff *****

  • Well said freegie! 100% agreement!

    'Oh I Wept' is exquisite.

  • @freegie27

i agree man. the solo on oh i wept was out of this world. heart wrenching.

  • @freegie27

i agree man. the solo on oh i wept was out of this world. heart wrenching.

koss is my joint favourite guitarist with peter green.

  • @3Kmartin amen to that! Kossof rocked the Les Paul an IMO was a better guitarist than Page. Page's style was sloppy but Kossof's sols were crisp. Not to mention that vibrato he got! No one could touch him.

  • @3Kmartin You damn right.

  • this band is for me as great as zeppelin

  • better

  • @semanray I totally agree!

  • @semanray

    Led Zeppelin they are not.

  • @semanray You got that right. I fact I loved em more than the Zeps. Kossoff burns your soul.

  • @semanray : there´s no comparing...different styles, both are great!

  • @modellfan17 i get your point!

  • @semanray this band for me is better than zeppelin

  • @daniel21april lol, since it has been a year since i posted my comment,my opinion is the same as yours now!!and thanks for reminding me about this vid!!

  • can anyone find free doing a mouth full of grass?

  • magico!

  • What a band, managed to see them at Guildford Civic Hall - 1970. Paul Rodgers has the best rock/blues vocals of all time-bar none!!

  • Don't forget Steve Mariott and Robert Plant!

  • Good call. Marriott (Humble Pie) amazing, and Plant, well we all know.

  • coojert, I'm envious, I'd have loved to see Free live! I agree, Rodgers is my favourite white male vocalist of all time (Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding if you're wondering!). I wouldn't put Plant so high, I'm a HUGE Zep fan, but he's not up there. Marriott yes, hell yes, how about Lou Gramm? Steve Winwood? Ian Anderson of the Tull? Peter Green had a great voice. Justin Heywood is up there. Even Rod Stewart when he was kicking it with The Faces. John Lennon, of course. Discuss...

  • What a voice! What a band! Brilliant!

  • Free were such an influential band. Brilliant!!

  • Ecxellent!!! I don't know where you found this, But thank you!

  • It's from the Free Forever DVD....

  • Free should be more recognized today. It's a shame because they really were an incredible band.

  • Fantastic...!

  • most underrated rock band ever.. but IMO the best

  • just a sublime combination - the best brit rock vocalist ever(?), gooviest brit bass player(?), super simple yet stunning writing - so much space in this song, but huge impact on the listener. Terrific. arrangements,

  • Yup, don't forget Kossoff. Stunning.

  • and ...Simon Kirke..he had to knock along to these guys ..just watch him hes class!

  • top class man, spot on.

  • Very little to add. They were innovators giving the bass a free (sic) rein. I have a question which has been puzzling me since the mid seventies, have you or someone you know been to a gig and found themselves sitting next to a whistler?

  • No never, can,t sit down at a gig!!

  • totallywith you man

  • Paul Kossoff an inspirational guitar player !!!!!!

  • this band are so under-rated....listen to those vocals and heavy grooves. it's a shame they should be given more credit for what they did.

  • Finally something thats actually live : )

  • bout 3:33 this thing CRANKS!

  • I got this show on dvd about 2 years ago, and had quite honestly had never heard anything from them besides "All Right Now". Popped this in with a six pack after work. I was stunned. Had heard of Kossoff and Rogers. But this band was loaded with talent and had great chemistry. Great songs. This band could have dominated for years.

  • What DVD is this from?!?

  • probably talking about "Free Forever" Great dvd!

  • It's called Free "Doing Their Thing". Cant get in stores.

  • I got it online. Send me a message here and I'll hook you up where I got it from.

    Can't get it in stores.

  • dude hook me up!

  • Free = Awesome. I love how they always have the bass amp turned up. Paul Rodgers is unbeatable. Whole band is definition of rock at its peak.

  • What concert is this from by the way?

  • FANTASTIC !!! Theres no better band.

  • cant beat Free. maybe some Sabbath or Since I've been loving you.

but cmon THATS THE FRIGGIN SOUND !

  • Andy Fraser is a great bassist, nearly as good as bassists like John Deacon, Jonh Entwistle and John Paul Jones (notice a pattern there?). He's also got an awesome bass. I want one...

  • Only pattern I noticed is you spelled John correctly, then wrong, then correctly again. : )

  • The pattern I meant was that they are all called John, but the computer can't spell!

  • Wow, fantastic video from a brilliant band!!!!!!

    I'm trying to stay calm D..... ;P

    SHOWER HERE I COME!!!!!!!

  • THIS IS BLUES BAND ... YEACH !!!

  • Love that classic thick sound of a Les Paul going through vintage Marshalls. Kossoffs vibrato is wicked!

  • hey day band on their hey days...ihaa! one of the best band ever!so great to see this

  • free..one of the most musical and underated british bands ever. Awsome sound great vocals and rip paul kossoff.

  • Now that's what blues is all about, thanks. I really l

  • I played this song for the woman I fell in love with. She looked at me with big eyes: This is the music that you love? I said yes, and I never saw that girl again. She was beautiful, but not that cute after all. Look, what should I do with a woman I could never talk about music? I'd rather stay a junggeselle till the morning comes.

  • well no one can be as good this band beacuse they made the song they can do what the hell they liked wiv it. i respect you for trying out this song tho
