@Jerrel72 Thanks! Be sure and subscribe or at least check out my hunting channel TEXASNATIVE00. I've got most of my hunting related videos posted there and should have another up on Monday. I just got back from hunting with my cousin and he got a great buck. Can't wait to share it!
This is a really good video, nothing like father and son hunting deer. I go out with my father in England, and its really nice to spend time with him.
Hunting this way is a good way to make a lifelong bond.
@Rhapsody564 I think that shot was probably about 50-60 yards. The longest I have taken a deer with the 6.8 is probably 110 yards. My rifle shooting ability gets kinda iffy after 100 yards or so, so I usually pass on the longer shots to avoid wounding the deer. I am confident I can hit something out to 500 yards but I will just be hitting it some where and probably not a clean kill.
I have a 6.8mm barrel and forearm from Yankee Hill and a DMPS HI TOP reciever I put to gether I put on a Bushmaster .50" groups at 100 and 1.00" at 200 all day long of course the 3x9x50mm leupold helps but I cant say enuff about this round.Last yr I drop'd my deer out to 300 yrds in it's tracks.enuff sed..............
Sorry, I noticed that you said that it was an exit area, however you seemed to have eluded that the bullet was still in the deer. Did the 6.8 exit, stay in, or fragment- therefore you were just showing us a huge leftover fragment? I always figured that the penetration was quite good in the 6.8 SPC.
If it did fragment, how badly did it scramble the meat?
I bought one round of it at a gun show just because I thought that it was a cool (and a relatively rare) round at the time.
Better choice of words was probably where the bullet should have exited. It did not pass through the deer. All the other deer I shot with this round has passed through. I think I hit some bone in the neck. The bullet mushroomed real nice though. Last weekend one of my friends shot a 102 pound 8 point in the neck with a 30-06 and his bullet did not exit the deer either.
Its great for hunting, but I would probably not set out to buy one if I was just gonna target shoot. The ammo is fairly pricey when compared to 223. I won that 6.8SPC upper from DPMS at the 2005 Cavalry Arms 3-Gun match. DPMS was a sponsor of the match and donated a bunch of stuff. I pretty much use it for hunting and do all the reloading of the ammo myself so the ammo is much cheaper that way.
Picking up my Stag Model 7 6.8 on tuesday; this will be my first AR. My next investment will be a baewulf .50, It will probably just be the upper if everything matches up.
that blows. her is texas we can pretty hunt with anything but rimfire and full auto. magazine capacity is not an issue either. shot placement is crucial with the 223 but some places that you hunt require you to use something larger than 22 calliber. the 6.8SPC is treating me right :)
hell yeah man, great vid! i can't tell you how many times i've heard "AR's are strickly made for killing people, not for hunting game" then again these same people have no clue about firearms or the many different calibers an AR can be chambered in. Is that a RockRiver?
DPMS yes, but the railguards are actually freefloat tube from Yankee Hill. Click on the "more" in the descricption, I put some load data in there too.
I won this upper at the 2005 Cavalry Arms 3-gun match. DPMS was a sponsor at the match and had donated tons of their products to the match. I have not priced one rescently but like everything after the US election, I expect it to be expensive.
Sorry to say but one of my friends tossed the bullet out. I had recovered it and placed it on a table where we were cleaning the deer. My friend helped me clean up and accidentally tossed it out in the field. I got a brief look at it and it was mushroomed real good with the copper jacket split pretty well. That was the 1st time I ever recovered a bullet. I've been using this round for 3yrs now and love it. Last yr I got a pig with it. I definately recomend it 4 white tail. Thx, I love that boy!
I'm a Texas man myself! I gotta say, you are a good dad teaching your son to hunt! I wish my dad had taught me! Awesome deer and super nice gun!

What range did you take it at? I'm reading that the 6.8 is good from 200 or 300 yards.
