This is going to sound crazy, but they again so are clowns and anything is possible with those little nut jobs. I've heard all kinds of stories of clown hosting objects from rocks to thermometers and there's a vid here on youtube of a clown hosting a stingray. This almost looks like your clown has decided to go the distance and host a goby! A shrimp goby of all fish makes vague sense since it's always in the same place and these little blackrays are extremely docile.
Also, in regard to buying a mate for it: Odds are yours is a female as they are hermaphrodites, and solitary clownfish are dominant in their territory, thus always female. Maroons are very hard to pair and if she doesn't accept the mate you offer, she will kill him. So choose a juvenile maroon clown that is half her size, as it is likely genderless or male, and let them meet each other in a setting where he is behind a net or something so you can watch closely and pull him out if needed.
Sometimes for whatever reason maroons will make "friends" with another fish. My huge 6" female has a maroon mate, they've been together for over a year now, yet she still seems to be total buddies with my Mandarin Dragonet too. He can go right up to their anemone and munch on the amphipods on the rocks next to it, and she will kind of gently nuzzle him and he'll continue munching away unphased. She also spends a lot of time next to him, just hanging out. Weirdos. :)
